I was in Richmond for a few hours, so I decided to try Sugar's Crab Shack. I really didn't have high expectations due to some of the reviews. I am glad that I stopped by because I really enjoyed the food. I had the whiting salad, fried shrimp, and I tried the deviled crab cake. I really enjoyed everything and will be back. The employees were also very friendly and helpful.

It breaks my heart to say this but the food was Traaash * BubbaDub voice*...and I literally left the bulk of it in their trash can on the property 🙃. I ordered the Catfish & Shrimp Dinner. $30.71 for 3 beautiful, soggy, unseasoned pcs of Catfish and 4 shrimp that were saved by the best thing in the box...the cocktail sauce. Im trying to figure out what the seasoning was on the fries because it was visible but lacked any kind of taste. It came with 2 slices of dry toast which I questioned until I experienced how soft and soggy the fish was.The bread, nor texas pete and Jesus didn't make it any better🤷🏽♀️. The coleslaw was also tasteless and came without a fork. I was so looking forward eating at Sugar's. The reviews are phenomenal but sadly the pictures and reviews are a far cry from the taste in my humble opinion.

The fish was excellent — fresh, well seasoned, and the fries were fried but crisp not greasy — topped off with bean pie for desert, atmosphere was culturally welcome with good old school music— and the service, well it felt like being home— kindness and smiles and they even showed us the food before we took it back to our outside table and just ate, laughed and enjoyed the beauty of the moment. Thanks for making our date night special. We WILL be back. The owner even stopped by our table to see how our meal was and let me say Sugar’s is a real blessing — 🙏🏽❤️❤️

This place NORMALLY have the best fried seafood around. However today I stopped in order 2 soft shell carb platters and MY CRABS was RAW!!! I’ve tried calling several times nobody has answered and the voicemail is full. Very disappointed and it wasn’t cheap at all.

First time visit. The food was excellent, hot, and plentiful. The service and staff were very nice and friendly. Dining is outside with a patio atmosphere, very clean and plant friendly. Will be back in the future.
