There are good restaurants and then there are the restaurants where you trust that everything the chef makes will be amazing. Broken Tulip is the later, I have never been disappointed by a single dish from them. Their food has influences from around the world but always comes together as a cohesive meal. Lunch and Dinner multi-course meals are a fantastic value. They have a wine selection with unique wines from around the world and are always happy to suggest the perfect pairing. The desserts don't get enough attention - there always seems to be a perfectly executed sweet to finish off the meal. Their homemade bread is also phenomenal and I often stop to buy one to take home. The meal is served in a more European style where you sit and enjoy the company and the time spent together with great food. I would recommend to set aside the time to truly enjoy the experience.

This place is very small only have three tables and bar seats during lunch time, and a big table outside seems like it’s for dinner or large partyThey only offer set menu for lunch which is $19 for two courses and $24 for 3 courses. Very cheap but with high quality food. There are 3 options on each course to choose from , rotate from time to time. I had the duck wings which is so tasty and fall off the bone. Arctic char skin is so crispy and pair with the sauce really brings out a good flavor of the fish. The chocolate tart is very rich with a layer of salted caramel on the bottom. The curry chicken is also very good, Thai style. The store is very small but definitely one of the best in town, very home style cooking and cozy environment

Cute wine shop with "hidden" restaurant in the back, though hardly a restaurant with just a few tables. More like the best kept culinary secret in Richmond. We can here for lunch to enjoy their very affordable set menu: 2 courses for $19 or 3 courses for $24. I opted for 2 courses... but before those could come out we were served the yummiest warm sourdough bread I've had in years, undoubtedly the best ever in a restaurant, with a dab of homemade salted butter. Two pieces per person and still we asked for more... Back to the other shining stars, I enjoyed a perfectly sized bowl of mussels in a cream sauce followed by red curry with chicken and jasmine rice. Both were awesome, however, I want to especially shout out the red curry which blew me away. I am not sure where the chef trained but his cooking was beyond excellent. We finished with a shared piece of chocolate and salted Carmel pie served with cream. Enjoyable but was my least favorite. Service could not have been friendlier or more welcoming. This was one of the most honest-felt, genuine southern hospitality experiences you'll ever find. A little slice of small town comfort in the big city. Be sure to grab a bottle of wine or two on your way out.

I usually do not post reviews online but I needed to today. My husband and I had a random afternoon off so we punched in restaurant on Cary street into Google and headed here. We were pleasantly surprised. Lunch was a 2 or 3 course pre fixe meal which was lovely. Everything was delicious. Everything is seasonal with a changing menu daily. It’s a quaint little spot and we will be back.

I love this approach to food. By limiting the number of patrons it is easier to focus great attention on details that just can't happen when you are moving tables every night. Every course was delicious covering the range of sea, land and air with accompanying fabulous mostly Italian wines. Service was personal, attentive and charming. Great concept executed to perfection.

Seating is limited but just enjoyable dining experience. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays. No reservations during lunch. So beware.

A truly amazing place tucked away in Carytown. We had the feasting menu and it was truly a treat. Just be prepared to spend several hours leisurely dining.

This is an amazing special dinner spot, offering a one seating multi course menu of whatever is in season. Unlike other multi course menus though, you definitely won't leave hungry. We splurged and got the wine pairings with dinner, which is also worth your time. I'm not very involved with wine, it was a treat to learn about where each wine pairing came from. The food is definitely worth your time regardless.

I'm so grateful I finally got to try Broken Tulip. The last time my Mom visited, she went here with a friend. She would not stop raving about this place. Every time Carytown gets brought up she asks me if I've gone to Broken Tulip yet. It's a cozy shop with an incredible wine selection. It's always nice to find a farm to table spot in the city. You can tell it's truly fresh because there isn't a set menu for lunch. You can choose between a 2 course ($19) or 3 course meal ($24). The two course meal includes an appetizer and an entree, while the three course meal adds a dessert. You have three options to pick from in each category I came here on a weekday with my friend. She had only an hour for her lunch break. I asked our server if it was possible to have our meals in under an hour and she made sure it was possible. Here's what we tried: Bread & Butter: I'd normally feel silly adding this, but it was DELICIOUS. You know that fancy butter you pay a little extra for at the grocery store? The Irish one? Yup, imagine that, but better. And the bread was fresh. Chicken liver pâté, toast & marmalade: A bit salty for me, but overall creamy and smooth. The marmalade complimented it well, plus we got more of the amazing bread. Arugula lemon & Parmigiana salad: Simple and simply divine. A refreshing salad made for the summer time. My taste buds were taken on a trip to Italy. Duck confit, saute potatoes & raspberry gastrique: This is my favorite French dish. Broken Tulip did it justice. Crispy, juicy, and tender all came together in this duck leg. It left me wondering, why don't we do this for Thanksgiving? Pork Chop, swiss chard & Wade's Mill grits: I rarely have grits, so I often forget how much I enjoy them. These were incredible. I'm salivating just typing about them. I think knowing they were from a Virginian mill made them even tastier. I enjoyed the taste of the chops, however, the meat was a bit tough for me. Chocolate cherry cake, luxardo syrup: This dark chocolate cake was dense and delightful. I could eat an entire tub of the cream they put on top of it. I truly can't wait to come back and try some more!

Went on the recommendation of friends and were unfortunately left disappointed. The couple who runs the place seems very lovely and there is clearly potential. But a lot of things were off. First, the ambience is odd as there is wine advertised at the table, there is a musty smell, the table we were at was so large our party of 4 sometimes struggled to speak to the person furthest from us, and small details were odd (for instance, the silverware seemed dingy and also we did not have enough forks for each course so had to retrieve our forks from our used plates to use on our next course). We did the tasting course and while there were some nice dishes like the dessert, other dishes were not very impressive and combined a lot of weird elements. I've been to upscale restaurants that pull off weird combos with panache! But that was not the case. Also, one course was some poorly washed greens with 4 pieces of pancetta-- not worth the price. There was very little service (totally understand it's just the couple running it, but we didn't get a welcome or explanation of how the courses worked or what they were-- we found our seat and suddenly food was in front of us). Also, there is an additional $10 charge on each wine bottle you have with dinner-- we were not told until we got the bill and realized that every bottle of wine was $10 more than advertised. A lot of these comments are minor but add up to bigger issues that make this not worth the steep price per person for the tasting menu! I hope we just caught them on an off day or that things are improved as there is definitely potential. But we will not be going back ourselves anytime soon.

Absolutely fabulous! Three excellent courses and best chocolate mousse ever. Lovely owners, great wine and quaint atmosphere really make it special. Nothing not to love! ? PS We had three large shrimp on our Bucatini noodles - just sayin’…

If you want a unique and fun dining experience, check out The Broken Tulip. They have a seven course prix fixe dinner at 7 pm each night. The chef cooks what's fresh that day, and the menu is constantly changing. You can also get a la carte as well, but I would recommend the prix fixe. Among the highlights for us were bucatini with shrimp, monkfish, and strawberry ice cream with rhubarb strudel for dessert. We enjoyed talking with the wife who is the co-owner (her husband is the chef) as she brought out each course. The dinner lasted almost three hours but it never felt like we were waiting forever for the next course.

A big disappointment. The food is overthought and busy. The service and management are rude and pretentious. Expensive and presentational and just doesn't live up to the standard you would have going in based on reviews and descriptions.

If you like seasoned food, do not try this place. I ordered the risotto shrimp, which had 2 small pieces of shrimp. I also had the steak, which was served cold and tasteless. We had a large party, so the waitress kept forgetting stuff when she could have simply written it down. It was awful.
