First of all, a big thank-you to The Camel for being one of Richmond’s best live music venues for as long as I can remember.
They have an incredible knack for booking artists before they hit it big. Over the years, we’ve seen countless musicians here when they were just getting started—close enough to practically read the setlist over their shoulder. You’re often standing three feet from future stars, which is pretty special.
Fair warning: it’s a small space and it gets crowded (because it’s awesome). If you sit on the bar side, you’re probably not seeing much of the stage. On the music side, there’s very little seating. Translation: wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to stand. It’s part of the experience.
Most recently, we saw Bronwyn Keith-Hynes and her band, and they were absolutely incredible. I’d be shocked if she isn’t playing much bigger venues in the next year or two. Another “we saw them first” moment courtesy of The Camel.
If you love live music, follow their concert calendar and grab tickets early. Huge kudos to whoever is booking the talent here—you consistently knock it out of the park.
One of Richmond’s true gems. Long may it rock.
Awesome place I go everyday
had a great time! small enough to feel cozy and get to know people; big enough to get your groove on. Drinks were cheap, food was good, and bartender was fantastic. even had the privilege to enjoy the art! can't wait for my next visit
Cool spot. Nice music and drinks.
Love the early shows, especially Garden Variety String Band. My husband likes the beer menu and they smoke their own pork which is pretty good. Casual, affordable, easy - grateful for places like this that make RVA interesting!
Location, Layout (Bar area separate from Band/ Audience), Space -ideal size!
The best part is the happy hour menu. Especially the $3 tacos and the sausage star dumplings.
Always enjoy the events we attend at The Camel. Pleasant staff. My ceasar wrap was fresh and tasty! And my bloody mary was just the way I wanted. My husband was happy with his stout. They usually have a pretty good selection of seasonal beers.
The show was fun. Great place for live entertainment. Food was ok drinks were fine.

Great place to perform and see a show, all styles seem to be welcome
Love the live music and how close you can get to the stage. I was there for a show on Friday which was amazing!
The bouncer on the other hand really killed the vibe at the door, he was very rude and condescending towards me. I’ll be back for more shows but hopefully they have a different bouncer.
Good music, local place
A lot of good music comes through here. Great food on top of that!
Nice intimate venue with attentive bar staff, lounge area.
