The place looks great and the service was fantastic. We had calamari for an appetizer and it was good with good sauces. Our meals were a different story. My wife ordered the crab cakes and felt they were very fishy with not much taste. I ordered the scallops and shrimp which were good, unfortunately there was rice that tasted like floor cleaner, needless to say I didnt eat much of that. The desert was key lime pie and it was OK. For us not a favorite.

I hate to give bad reviews .... Service started out well. Then I saw our waitress leaving. We had received our food and then never had anyone check on us again. After 30 mins I finally went to the host and asked for boxes and our check. I guess our waitress had been cut and no one told anyone to pick up our table. We were basically just sitting there. No offer to comp anything. I've worked in restaurants, so I still tipped 20%, but definitely a strange experience. It was an anniversary dinner, which was kinda a bummer.

My wife and I went here for our 20th anniversary (which I made a not about on my reservation). The service was great, with the host and the waiter both offering their congratulations unprompted and the waiter brought us both a glass of champagne on the house. The food was delicious. Enjoyable time all around. Highly recommended.

It was Father's Day and it appeared that the wait staff was under staffed. The waitress was slow to come to the table or return after our initial order was placed. We got the attention of the host a couple of times to request follow up on missing items. There were seven people in our party. I asked for my tuna steak to be rare and it was cooked all the way through to a well done. The calamari was over friend to a beyond crispy finish. The filet mignon was requested to be medium rare plus, but again cooked through. I could continue, but it would not be productive. I doubt this is the norm, but this was our experience. The past experiences at the Hardshell were not like this.

I'm sorry I should of been left a review.....the hard shell was very nice and the service was awesome.....my family came up to Richmond from Hampton during memorial weekend.....we were a large party of about 12 and the service was so awesome..everyone enjoyed their meal even the little ones....they loved their crablegs.....I truly recommend this establishment....you will definitely enjoy.....many blessings to you and your restaurant very nice service.....will be visiting again.❤️❤️👍👍

I love this restaurant and would highly recommend for in person dining. The brunch was amazing. Service was top notch. My family and visit several times off and on . I have always been pleased. I decided to get a take out meal for my husband last Sunday and was very disappointed with the portion. The crab cake was full of crabmeat, but this looks like a child's portion it didn't even fill the bun. I should have looked before I got home. Otherwise, I still highly recommend in person dining.

The steak frites and crab cakes are amazing! Dungeness crabs and the rolls were perfect. Finished up with cheesecake. We went for our anniversary and they brought us some champagne and strawberries. The main room gets a little loud at times but nothing crazy. I've never had anything bad. We love it.

Wonderful brunch menu! Everything was prepared perfectly. The crab omelette was full of lump crab meat bursting with flavor. The calamari was delicious. Even the blueberry muffins were buttery and flavorful. Great way to celebrate my daughter's graduation!

There were 4 of us and a baby, and the service couldn't have been better. even though we had been here before, we felt that the food presentation was exceptional. The oysters were the freshest, and the entrees were all very good.

Not our typical experience. Had a reservation but had to wait 15 for a table —not a huge deal but then it took 45 minutes for our food. Waitress never checked on us after bringing drinks. When I asked about our appetizer she told us the kitchen was all backed up. We should have been told that to begin with. It was Mother's Day but still, the kitchen should have been prepared. I almost wonder if she forgot to put on the appetizer order as everything came out at the same time. She also forgot my dessert. If you don't have a great memory, wrote it down. My burger was overcooked as was my son's crab Benedict. The coffee was good and so were the desserts. And the calamari when it finally came out was excellent. It was a$200 bill before tip and we expected more. Probably would not back.
