The location is nice. The food is good. Not exorbitant. But it bothered us that the waiters were surly. It dampened what could have been a very pleasant occasion.
Had lunch on a Saturday here and for the most part, it t was really good. Service was good but I think there was only one waitress and she was working very hard. I had the BLT with pimento cheese which may have been the best I’ve ever had. My wife had the Terriyaki bowl which had WAY too much sauce. So much so that it was virtually inedible. We would absolutely go back though. Nice place with a great neighborhood vibe.
Great little spot on the corner of a nice neighborhood (Church Hill) in Richmond (RVA). Attentive, professional service and a nice, varied menu of good quality pub food. I had the smash burger and it was good, though nothing to write home about (try Cobra Cabana or Jack Brown's for Richmond's best burgers). My girlfriend had the crabcake that was mediocre (definitely heavy on the breading). Tazza (multiple RVA locations) has a better one. But everything else was good - the clam chowder was tasty and I love their fries. Beer selection was decent, though I'd have liked to have at least one non-hazy (West Coast) style IPA - there are many local brewers who offer such. The best part is the vibe - a local, neighborhood style place, much like Joe's Inn in the Fan section of RVA. I'll definitely be back.
I visited the Cafe today with some of my family. The atmosphere was warm and charming as was our server. I had the fried oysters, which were little and perfectly cooked, delicious with the accompanying lemony remounted. My companions had the shrimp and grits and the meatloaf platters, which also looked very tasty. My cocktail was perfectly balanced and my companions enjoyed their IPA’s. The entire experience was a perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon and I look forward to a return visit the next time I come to Richmond. Thank you so much!

One of my favorite restaurants in the city. Last night I enjoyed a perfectly made maple old fashion. I ordered the meatloaf and brussel sprouts. It did not disappoint. My dinner date had fried oysters. Both entrees were delicious and reasonably priced. We shared the scrumptious lemon cream cake for dessert. Our server was attentive throughout the meal. Treat yourself to The Hill Cafe. You'll be glad you did.
Parking: Street parking. Depending on the day or night, you may need to walk a block.

We had a quick dinner last night. the food was so delicious and tasted homemade, from the pasta red sauce to the mashed sweet potatoes. Affordable, easy, and great!

I hadn't been here in years, but had very fond memories. Yesterday evening was just as wonderful with all the boxes being checked in all departments. The atmosphere possesses a quaint, but vivacious energy that tapered down towards the tail end of the dinner rush.
I ordered a chicken sandwich while my date chose the burger. Both were absolutely stellar as well as the potato salad! All in all I'll be excited the next time I get to go here again!

Food is great, but....guys...rethink how much you fill a wine glass for 6 dollars! I can get a whole bottle for that and you pour 3 sips into the glass

Ran out of home fries during brunch. Biscuit was over cooked. Shoe string fries were like eating twigs.

Wife and I stopped by here for dinner the other night.
We were seated immediately, given water, and a menu. It feels very cozy and warm inside, like finding a secret little community.
We ended up ordering the shrimp and grits, the fried chicken sandwich, and some cauliflower tots as an appetizer.
My wife reported the shrimp and grits were fantastic.
My chicken sandwich was fairly salty, but overall delicious. The slice of ham is an excellent touch and all of the ingredients tasted fresh. My only note is that, unless you like ketchup, the sandwich is a bit dry which is exasperated by the salt.
The cauliflower tots left a lot to be desired. I'm not an expert, but the tots were essentially a brown mush inside. We couldn't finish them.
Overall, though, I think Hill Cafe is excellent and worth the visit. Maybe skip the tots, though.

No ones going here for exceptional or creative food or cocktails. It’s a neighborhood jaunt thats “good enough” but not great.

Food was wonderful, everything we ate had great flavor and beautiful presentation. It looked like there were lots of regular patrons that had a good relationship with the employees, and as such, I think we were forgotten for a while, I had to go ask for our check. Other than that, 5 stars just for he good food!
