Do yourself a favor and get the Naked Onion pork belly bahn mi. I haven’t lived in Richmond for a year and a half and still go to Naked Onion every single time I’m in or passing through Richmond. Such a little gem of a lunch place.

Toasty bread, crisp pickled carrots and radish, roasted pork, zingy jalapeño and cilantro, and the perfect garlic (but not too garlicky) aioli to bind it all together. Call ahead to place your order; no seating. Friendly service.

Don't come here if you are looking for a mediocre sandwich. This is the best sandwich I've ever had in my entire life. Yes, I was hungry but I also went back in to order two extra sandwiches for dinner and canceled my original dinner plans for it. And those were still good when I was less hungry. Everything here is consistently amazing. The food and the service were both terrific. I asked for extra cilantro and they happily gave us a generous container of it. They were also patient in helping us decide which sandwiches we should get. Honestly, I wasn't that excited because I thought it would be a regular sandwich shop especially considering the affordable prices. I've also had a lot of Bahnmi but This was hands-down the best I've ever had. The radish and daikon were perfectly acidic to match the fatty pork belly, which was braised perfectly, as well with the garlic aioli. The baguette was also very crunchy on the outside but perfectly soft on the inside. In addition it was just the right amount of thickness and soak up just enough sauce to give it the delicious flavor that it has. A lot of other sandwich shops have very thick bread slices or baguettes, and the ratio was just not right. This one was perfect. I also got the gobbler sandwich, which is a Thanksgiving special sandwich. I really thought it was going to be gimmicky but it was actually soooo good. The meat was tender and juicy, the cranberry was sweet and tart but not overpowering. The stuffing was visibly not super obvious but the flavor from it was irreplaceable and so rich. Also, I mentioned that I had no idea what their daily soup, which was parsnip, would taste like. After hearing this, they immediately offered to let me sample it. I was surprised to taste that it was actually quite delicious, considering I'm not a huge fan of vegetables or soup. It was very fragrant, thick, aromatic, hot and delicious! The potato salad was also very delicious. The potatoes were of perfect consistency - not too mushy or hard. The egg in it made it perfectly creamy too. Very solid potato salad! Going to drive back up to NY in a week and will definitely be back again!!!

We got the Bahn mi w/ pork belly and the gobbler. It was so good that we came back to the place and got two more sandwiches!

Great sandwiches Friendly staff No seating Great veggie options Hands down best bahn mi in richmond, and the vegetarian bahn mi doesn't disappoint either. Id reccomend calling in your order as service can get a bit slow if youre not the only one there. Dont mind the slow service as you can see the workers making your sandwiches fresh right infront of you.

This spot is a hidden gem. The naked onion is definitely nothing to look at and if you're not paying attention or unfamiliar with the area you will definitely miss it. I've passed this location on numerous occasions and have never noticed it. Had it not been for Yelp I would've never stopped here let alone knew it existed. No interior decorations have been done whatsoever. The place is so tiny that if you take two steps into the door you're literally at the pay station, so if you're looking for some place to sit down and eat, possibly meet new ppl...this ain't it my guy. Inside there's a bench and a couple of chairs for waiting and outside in front of the building is a lone picnic table, which would be cool to enjoy your food on a nice day. Now let me get into the reason why this place is so great. I've only been here twice and both times I placed my order for pick up and both times my food was ready by the time I was done paying. 10 minutes would be the most accurate amount of time it took for my food to be prepared. Each time I ordered the Pork Belly Banh Mi sandwich with potato salad and each time my taste buds did backflips. It was so good the first time I had to get it a second time to make sure it wasn't fluke. The potato salad is small in size and doesn't live up to the greatness of the sandwich but it is a good compliment. Now I just have to use some self control and not order the Pork Belly Banh Mi during my next visit so that I can try the rest of the menu.
