The Veil Brewing Co. - Funkhaüst

Few know about this place and get the opportunity to enjoy its unique atmosphere and curated selection of beers. A Veil lover's dream with plenty to try and take home; all while surrounded by giant stacks of barrels. The place could definitely use some love but the service is always excellent! Chris (one of the hosts/servers) knows how to make your time there one of the best ways to spend any Friday night. Who knows what you might like better than the resident expert? I know I've been highly satisfied by his suggestions.

This is my favorite of the three Veil locations. The focus on mixed fermie beers and bottle service, as well as the cozy atmosphere make it a great place to get friends together for a happy hour. Some Veil standbys are always available if you want to mix it up from the mixed fermie beers. Overall one of the true hidden gems of Richmond.

We were at the Veil in Norfolk. We love the stouts/IPA’s and the hamburger/fries from the restaurant. Down side is the cider wasn’t good at all. It taste like drinking apple cider vinegar. Sour/tart taste? I would say stick with beer brewing and not to mess with getting into cider. Our experience overall was good. We have been to both locations Norfolk and Richmond. Wish you would bring back the White Russian! That was excellent

First time in Richmond. We had a great time and a delicious sampling of the beers. There was a pizza truck outside with excellent pizza as well

Thoroughly enjoyed my more low key, less busy visits here equally as much as festival-type experiences like the annual Zwanze Day. See Veil's social media/website for more details on happenings at the Funkhaust. If you want a chill, intimate, dimly lit date night, the Funkhaust fits that bill most of the time. They don't usually offer food/pop ups eateries so plan a visit as a part of a multi-stop trip. It's not far from Scott's Addition.

Same great Veil beers, now in a cozy, intimate setting! I came in right before closing, and the two employees who helped me out were incredibly friendly and helpful. Will come back with company next time!

European beer cafe level coziness with world class beers

Heather was an absolute earth angel! She was very attentive and personable. The atmosphere at the Funkhaüst cafe was magic. Honestly, it was the perfect date night ambiance & something my partner and I really vibed with. They have insanely good funky sours, so naturally we had to visit twice.

I visited a week ago for the first time, and loved it! The atmosphere inside is so neat, and the beers I tried were fantastic! When I bought a couple bottles to take home and ran into a slight order hiccup, the Funkhaust customer service team was very friendly and happily fixed my order. I can't wait to visit again!
