Quite possibly the best meal in town! Service was excellent from the time we set foot into the restaurant to the time we left. The crab cake appetizer, filet, and bread pudding were exquisite.

Alexander's is always a solid choice for dinner, and our recent romantic date night was no exception. The food and wine list were fantastic, offering great variety and quality. Having visited five times now, it's clear why we keep coming back. The restaurant has minimal staff turnover, which speaks volumes about its quality, and our server had been there for 26 years! We dined during restaurant week but chose to stick to the regular menu, and the prices were in line with the restaurant's caliber. We’ll definitely return for another memorable dining experience.

Alexander’s is one of the classiest restaurants in Roanoke. Everything from start to finish is always amazing! The service is always on point and the food is some of the best in the area! We highly suggest the deconstructed California roll for an appetizer. The pecan crusted chicken and lamb steak are also phenomenal! We’ve never had anything here that wasn’t delicious! The cocktails are also always good! 🍸

We reserved a table in advance for New Years, expecting a nice dining experience with the sample menu posted on their website. The menu showed items with reasonable prices for a fine dining restaurant. We were seated and given a special New Years Eve menu, then quickly realized it was $125 per person. No other menu was available, but we were not expecting to pay around $300 for two people (after tip). This was not advertised anywhere on their website and I couldn’t find any information on it online. The waitress mentioned that it may have been posted on Facebook, but that was not done either (but also not a reasonable announcement place when the restaurant has a website with an events tab). She also mentioned that they do this every year, but I don’t know how we’re supposed to know that. We respectfully left but then could not find any other place to dine for New Years, which was expected, so our evening was completely cut out. I would say to check beforehand for any special menu events, but I guess you’d have to call considering it’s not publicly announced anywhere. This should be something either posted on the website or told when you reserve a table online.
*Reply* - The only place on your website that mentions calling is the home page where it says, “Please reserve below or call 540-982-6983 for a reservation.” I cannot find anywhere requesting to call for more information, so either your website is unclear or the information you just told me is incorrect. The waitress was very kind to us and mentioned that there’s someone who runs your website. If you’re too busy and don’t have anyone to actually use your website, simply don’t have one. That would go along with you being “proudly old-school.” Also thank you for assuming that $300 for two people is an affordable and reasonable price that everyone can unexpectedly provide. I’m sure it was an excellent dining experience for the price, but we simply cannot provide that if it is not expected. We went to OTH Chophouse & Oyster Bar the following night and ordered drinks, an appetizer, and premium entrees for less than half of your “very reasonable all inclusive price.” It was a wonderful dining experience with a great view, outstanding customer service, and exceptional food.
My wife and I took guests from out of town and they were amazed at Roanoke’s having such a quality restaurant. The host explained every dish and answered several questions about its preparation in a friendly and professional manner. The fish was cooked to perfection and the lamb was just as ordered. The service was professional, attentive, and of highest quality. Alexander’s is THE PLACE to go for a quality food experience.

This is my wife's and my third time dining at Alexander's. First, second, or third, it doesn't matter. All three times the meals were top shelf. From the perfectly made Martinis, (and I'm a fanatic), to the appetizers, entrees, and desserts; Alexander's has become our favorite restaurant in Roanoke. A big shout out to Gina who waited on us for the second time. She knows the menu inside and out, and explains it with style. Moreover, Bjorn, the manager is friendly, and keeps things flowing; not afraid in rolling up his sleeves. Alexander's has had a very long run in downtown Roanoke. Yet, they keep up the first class quality; BRAVO!
This is the best place to take a date in the whole Roanoke area. You get what you pay for. And here you are not just paying for good food but also fantastic top-notch service that would not be out of place at the White House. Bonnie, Bjorn, and everyone else will take care of you here. Dress code is semiformal to formal, but remember that it is a restaurant, so you don't need a cravat or a cummerbund. Maybe a set of those secretly expandable slacks you can get at Kohl's?
While the food was amazing! The staff wasn’t super friendly or accommodating to diet restrictions. We travelled really far and were super excited as it was my daughters 21st birthday dinner. We also weren’t brought our leftovers after they were bagged up which was super disappointing. Also after calling and saying our food was left we weren’t reimbursed for the half we weren’t brought. Amazing food but hoping the staff is kinder next time !

If you're looking for a good upscale restaurant in the Roanoke area, you can't go wrong with Alexander's. Higher end menu items, prepared and presented with pride in execution. True the prices are higher than other restaurants in the area, but so is the quality of the food, service and atmosphere. Worth it.

The shrimp and corn dish was fabulous, as was the lemon tart for dessert! My mouth always waters when I think of their house salad with croutons and their unique salad dressing -- plus the included tasty treats-- tonight's were garbanzo beans and fresh mushrooms! Of course, the suggested wine for pairing completed the meal. I do appreciate that they include these suggestions in their menu. It makes for a spectacular dining experience!
We had often frequented Alexander's for special occasions and business meetings but over the last several years we had forgotten about it. It was excellent back then and clearly one of the best restaurants in Roanoke. We went back for an anniversary experiencing all the great service and food once again. I continue to rate this place very highly.
Any place that charges a patron $12 extra if they don’t order an entree will never receive my business. Too many great restaurants in town to be forced to purchase something or pay extra.
Exceptional, as always. I have been dining here for 27 years and the quality of service, food and drinks is the best. The side salad always surprises me how they make such simple ingredients taste so wonderful - same goes for the dessert! My favorites are the filet and shrimp etoufee, but their seasonal special that my friend had last night shrimp with tomatoes and corn was also so delicious. Bonnie, Kelly and Bjorn always make me feel like I am coming to see family. Truly the best place around!
