Had lunch there once when we were visiting Roanoke with family. Everything was so good.

The food was fantastic, the tea hot and flavorful and the dessert, firnee, was delicious. This seems to be a newer restaurant and my guess is Bamyan will, with a little time, gain a huge following. I am so glad we chose to eat there tonight!

Very clean and friendly restaurant. I would have taken a picture of the food, but ate it all too quickly. Had the quormey murgh (chicken curry) and was highly impressed. I can't wait to come back and try other dishes.

Bamyan Restaurant offers the only authentic Afghan cuisine within 150 miles of Roanoke. The 4 brothers who opened and operate this restaurant are from the Bamiyan Valley, where the Taliban forced locals to destroy 2 sixth century Buddhas in 2001.

Bamyan is an Afghan restaurant in Roanoke. Nice place for a hot meal, especially when it is cold outside. Taste is good with certain similarities to Indian food.

Look, I consider myself a better-than-most cook of middle-eastern fare, but whoa! This is a niche joint worth take out or eat in whenever you're nearby. There's a rice dish called Qabuli that I have to learn how to make.....until then, carry out :)

I'm not an expert on Afghani cuisine, but this place seems decent. I had dinner here with my fiancée. For appetizers we had the chicken samosa, bolani kachalow and for the main course we had lamb shanks qabuli and combo 2 (lamb tikka and chicken shami kebab). Chicken samosa was pretty good, the stuffing was a bit more sour than I expected, but overall a delicious bite with the right combination of a soft inner base wrapped in a crunchy shell. Bolani kachalow (a turnover with a stuffing inside) is somewhat similar to an Indian dish called stuffed paratha. This was a bit disappointing because it clearly smelled of oil. But the stuffing was ok. The lamb shanks kabuli is probably one of the better ones I have had. The rice was fragrant and delicious with the right mix of caramelized carrots and raisins. The lamb meat was tender and savory. It was probably the best part of the meal. Which brings us to the other entree: lamb tikka and chicken shami kebab. Shami kebab is also known as the shik kebab in India. The chicken one was pretty good. Right amount of salt and spice and good texture, which is hard to get in a shami kebab. The lamb tikka was truly disappointing: dry, overly done yet smelled very strong. To be honest I'm yet to try a good lamb kebab anywhere (Indian or afghani) so I would recommend skipping that. Also, the naan breads that came with the main courses were cold, dry and rubbery: but we had enough rice so that wasn't a big problem for us. The service time could have been better: we went to an almost empty place yet the entrees took more than thirty minutes. I do appreciate serving the appetizers quicker. Overall, decent experience, will come back later but stay away from the lamb kebabs.

The lunch buffet is such an amazing hidden treasure. I have several dietary restrictions -- I always leave satisfied and feeling great. Definitely visit them, highly recommend!

Wonderful lunch yesterday, my first time there. Friendly people, the food is very tasty and interesting. I would advise to try the lunch buffet to get an idea of what Afghan food is like. I'm sure the dinners are wonderful, too. Will certainly be back.
