The best sushi in Roanoke! Have been going there for 20 yrs. Always try sushi elsewhere when I travel, but Ben Gui never disappoints! The care with which it is prepared and the ingredients are top notch! Trust them!

Let me start off by saying that the experience was not very good. We waited over an hour for 2 sushi rolls. We knew what we had wanted when we sat down so there was little time spent getting the food ordered along with our drinks. The waiter was not in a good mood nor did he check on the table. He sat at the bar playing on his phone and seemed like we were bothering him when trying to get a refill. We were just about to get up and pay for the drinks and leave due to extremely slow service and bad experience with our waiter, but the cashier came over to update us that our food was just about to come out. We had been sitting there for an hour and eight minutes before our food touched the table. The food was alright but the experience was just ruined due to the lack of service and communication on our order.

I've lived all over and the only other place I had sushi this good was Hawaii. The quality is exceptional. We always order the boat and the cuts are always melt-in-your-mouth. Whenever I order omakase, I'm never disappointed. Even my 20-something sons recognize the superior quality and they don't have terribly discerning palates. They also love the serene and peaceful atmosphere. Even when multiple tables are seated, it retains a quiet ambience. Ben Gui is a reason to live in Roanoke. It's pure pleasure for the senses on all levels and not something I ever expected to find when returning to my home region, southern Appalachia.

Cozy and clean little restaurant. Staff was welcoming and friendly. The sushi was high quality and very good. Very uncommon for Roanoke/ NRV area and a pleasant surprise.

I ate here today for the first time. The food was okay, nothing sensational. The waitress was rude. The entire restaurant was empty, but anyone who came in was seated next to us. The prices on the menu are incorrect, so anything you order will be about 2 dollars more. There are no prices for beverages. You must pay for water, as it is only sold in a bottle. I will not be going back. There is nothing spectacular about this place at all. Head to Asia Cafe for really good 🍣.

I have been going here for almost 10 years. Pre covid, this was by far my favorite sushi place in the new river valley. Went for the first time in person since covid. Asked for water and was brought 1.50 bottled water and told there was no ice since the ice machine was broken. After reading reviews, it appears the ice machine has been broken for at least a year. Left before ordering. Do not feel I can trust a place that has no water available for free to not cut corners on the quality of their fish.

I came in today for lunch and ordered a 12 piece sushi for 17. I asked what drinks they had since there were none listed on the menu. Come to find out they sell can drinks for 1.50 so I asked for water because it's really unacceptable for a place to not have free refills. Then I was informed that they sell bottles of water for 1.50. mind you they have empty glasses at the bar all they had to do was put some ice and water in one.. My order came with a salad so I asked for ranch. They don't sell ranch just a ginger dressing. I'm pretty upset at this point and have told myself I'm never coming back or recommending this place to anyone. Honestly if I wasn't there with anyone I would have got up and left. To top it all off the hill was 2 dollars higher than the price listed on the menu! So they had an obviously irritated customer who didn't order any drink and told them to keep the salad since I wouldn't be eating it and didn't give me a discount off of the original price of 17 and instead up charged me 2. This is the worst place I've been to without question. The sushi was pretty good but that's the only thing positive I'll say about this place. As far as I'm concerned their service is horrible and they're thieves. If I could give this place a negative star I would.

I use to eat here often and loved it but the quality and service has been going downhill lately. They now charge $1.50 for water, and the food just isn’t as fresh. My miso soup tasted reheated, the salad was wilted and soggy, and they changed the spider roll to just 5 pieces and no crunchy outer layer like it use to be. The quality is poor and it just seems like they don’t care.
I won’t be recommending this place anymore.
