While traveling to Roanoke this past week for work, I dropped in for dinner.on Veterans day and had THE BEST service, sensational food (special Seafood platter) and delicious smoked cherry old fashioned!! The ambiance felt as you entered was so calming after a day of airport roulette lol!!
I enjoyed the complete experience so much that I went back the next 2 nights for dinner to see how repeat experience was. It surpassed my expectations both nights! I enjoyed the chicken piccata, oysters rockerfeller & the bourbon gla,ed.salmon over the next 2 visits. The food is AMAZING!!! Very generous portions and the flavor has you craving more!!
Thanks go out to the entire staff, for such phenomenal service, the chefs for honestly some of the BEST food I've ever eaten!! I'll definitely be back on my next trip to Star City!! H2

I ordered the ribeye sandwich which is priced at market value $49. For a $49 I was expecting an amazing sandwich. However, what I got was a cheap piece of bread and a ribeye steak that was cut into very thick slices and under seasoned. No season on the tomatoes and lettuce that was added on top of the sandwich, and the horse radish sauce served with it was almost bland. Overall a very lack luster experience, I would not recommend.

love this place!!
Awesome experience! We've been wanting to try Bernard's but always forget to make a reservation and it's hard to get a table on the weekend, as it's not a huge place. BUT, we finally got to try it yesterday for our 3rd wedding anniversary. So good! We had the frickles, the burrata salad, the crab cakes, and the salmon. We were too stuffed for dessert! Everything was superb and the cocktails were great too. Service was impeccable. We'll be back!

The restaurant is small and very quaint. They accommodated our party of 8 easily but I wouldn’t try for bigger. Perfect fit 2-4 size parties. The food was amazing. I had bourbon glazed salmon. The portions are big so you will probably go home with another meal. We all enjoyed our drinks as well. Definitely going back when we want a great meal downtown.

Hands down the best food I had all weekend while visiting Roanoke. The crab cakes and buffalo wings were incredible. I'm a Marylander so I can vouch for the Crab being Maryland crab. The wings were incredible I even got some to take to the hotel to eat later. the service was amazing as well which is saying a lot since it was only two people working the restaurant side. The bartender and server worked together to make sure everyone was taken care of beautifully. Thank you Bernards you set the bar very high for all of Roanoke restaurants.

The food is overpriced for what is essentially just bar food. If you go in with house expectations, the food may be good.
The staff are not the problem - they are doing their best- but there is definitely a culture problem. They look miserable. And if I read one more response saying they are understaffed- dear owner that means you need to hire more people. If you cannot afford to operate without milking your people dry, maybe you need to reevaluate your business model -
Signed - a gay leftist who just wanted a decent burger (also - where was my gay discount?)

Came to Roanoke for a show at the Berglund Center and decided to grab dinner at Bernard's before the show. Not being from the area, we were lucky to get a table without a reservation. The server quickly came by and got our drink orders and a short time later, took our food order. The appetizer and salad that was ordered came out fast. The frickles were amazing. Up until this point, everything was good. 40 minutes pass from our appetizer coming out and still no food. Table next to us that arrived about 15-20 minutes after us, had already gotten their food. Finally the server comes back for the first time since bringing our appetizer and tells us that there was some kind of mix up and the kitchen was making our order on the fly. We had to tell the server to cancel our order because we wouldn't have time to eat without being late to the show. Not once until when we had to cancel the order did the server come fill up our water glass or even check on how things were going. While not expecting it to happen, the appropriate action should have been to comp our appetizer or drink or something.
PS.. The bathrooms were clean and nice.
