I’ll start by saying we frequented BitS for many years largely due to convenience and price point. After awhile, we quit going in because of poor quality across the board. We are very pleased with the changes in the food and set up after a recent change in ownership. I prefer the ability to order from my seat vs standing in line. The buns are no longer soggy and fries are perfectly crispy. We received a warm welcome and excellent service this evening from a gentleman (uncertain of his name, but KD was on our receipt) despite a full restaurant. This young man is a valuable asset to the team and we will continue to return. Please give them a try!!

Got burgers and fries for 2 togo. Both burgers were very undercooked, medium rare steak is fine but a burger like that is nasty. With burger in your name, that shouldn't happen.

Don’t recommend. Not a fan of the new owners

After taking two and a half hours to get from Fancy Gap to Roanoke (I-81 is to VA what the Gardner Expressway is to Canada: Its Longest Parking Lot!), I was hungry. So, remembering the video I saw earlier this month, I decided to go here for an early supper. Because of the YouTube video on the vafunseekers channel, I’ll not duplicate their work. I’ll supplement it based on my experience where it differs from theirs. In other words, watch the video! Where they ordered what I consider “fancy” burgers, I kept mine simple. Raw onions and mayonnaise. Too many toppings -even cheese- can mask fillers in the beef or other imperfections. In fact, I’ve had several places practically beg me to “at least add cheese”! Not here! The burger at Hamburger In the Square is strong enough to stand on its own merits. Which, are considerable! The burger is 100% meat. No fillers! It is seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection, a word I rarely use in my reviews. Both of the vafunseekers were spot-on with the burgers. This is not only perhaps the best hamburger in that state, but is one of the best hamburgers I’ve had in my almost seventy years! However, I’m going to respectfully disagree with the gentleman in the video regarding the onion rings. While they have a consistency in appearance from one ring to another that’s characteristic of frozen rings, there was no freezer burn, condensation, limpness or problems that can occur with frozen onion rings. They were mostly thick cut. A rarity with frozen onion rings. My onion rings were excellent! In fact, they were that best onion rings I’ve had in that state since Popeye’s dropped theirs from the menu years ago. The onion rings are a must regardless of whatever burger you get! Definitely VA's best onion rings! My server was “Alyssa”, who was prompt and courteous. However, she wasn’t the only one ensuring that I was satisfied with my experience! After I sat down at my table, I was brought a menu by another team member. And, while I was eating my supper, yet another server asked me if I needed more soda. Which reminds me! If you’re like me and you must watch your carbs, besides the usual diet cola (Pepsi Zero, in their case), they also offer Diet Dr. Pepper… and Diet Mountain Dew! Getting back to the people here, when I mentioned seeing the video I referenced, the manager came over to ask me about it as apparently business has increased since it went online. OK... about the pricing. In a time where some restaurants are putting “Market Price” for beef on their menus, the old saying of “you (might) get what you pay for” is so true here. In fact, when you combine the quality with the serving size, you are receiving something that’s increasingly rare today. Value! One note is to please be careful in the parking lot. Especially in backing out of a space. While it’s easy to pull into a space going uphill, backing-out going downhill can require caution. The parking lot is on quire a slope! Summary: If you’re stuck in traffic on I-81 in Roanoke, do yourself a favor and make a side trip here. If you’re already in Roanoke and haven’t been here before, shame on you! If what I had is any indication, Hamburger In The Square is a destination unto itself. An absolute must! I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Roanoke!

NEW OWNERSHIP. Too many changes. The burgers patties arent fresh patties like they use to be and it's very disheartening to not want to go back to what was once our favorite local burger place.

Today was my first time eating here. My Switzer burger was delicious as were the onion rings! I wish I lived closer to you than Bland County! I'll find an excuse to be back!❤️

We’ve eaten here several times and consider this a staple going forward. The team is consistently friendly, courteous and welcoming. The burgers and fries are also consistently top notch, fresh and flavorful. Want a fantastic burger? This is your spot.

I had the philly dilly steak sandwich. It tasted really good but could use more meat to fill it end to end. It was extremely loud and hard to have a conversation but being that crowded tells you it's a good place to try.
