The food was excellent and the drinks were amazing. We have been to Lucky before but I think there has been some changes to the menu in a positive way. I had the fried chicken dish and it was one of the best things I have eaten in a long time. Lucky is going back on the list of favorite Roanoke restaurants!
Great farm-to-table, small plate option in cute downtown Roanoke. First visit to Roanoke. In town briefly for business and wanted a unique and local experience for a solo diner. (i.e. Something other than common menu items that appeared on so many menus that I see during travel in the US.) Went on a Thursday evening around 7:00. The bar was almost full, and the dining room had a few tables occupied. Good vibe and not too loud for the neighboring guests to enjoy themselves and have conversations. Host, server, and what I assumed was the MOD were all very welcoming. Good balance of not being bothered or forgotten about. Ordered the following: * Tomato and cucumber salad - Nice, lite first bite to start with. Every tomato half had its basil salt on it. Would have liked a tad less, but still very good. * Mushroom Salad - Another great start, small plate. The dressing was tasty and didn't overpower the mushrooms and greens. Would have like a little less of the seeds sprinkled on top. But again, still very good. * Octopus - Loved how the carrot puree worked with the bean succotash and appreciated the incorporation of black eyed peas. The chili crisps were a little salty, but added just the right amount of heat. I was expecting/hoping for a whole, charred tentacle or two, but it was served as thick slices that were cooked very well. Overall, a 4.5 for my first visit and what I was looking for.
Lucky is my favorite restaurant in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The only think I dislike about it is that I live 3 hours away.
From Mollie's welcoming smile greeting us as we arrived, to Mel's attentiveness during our meal, to Chris's craft drinks/cocktails, everything was excellent and my party and I will be back!
Drinks were fantastic and the steak was one of the best I've had in the area since moving here.
Creative cocktails. Loved the eggplant starter. Fried chicken awesome. Next time I'm getting TWO orders of the bone marrow!
Great experience. Comfortable seating, delicious cocktails, warm & friendly staff and killer food. Changes seasonally. Farm to table.
I don't often write reviews, but decided to in this case. It was a great dinner experience for four of us. I had not been to Lucky in a while, not sure why, but my loss. Service and food left no room for improvement!
Stellar dining experience! We arrived early for our reservation so grabbed a drink at the bar. Delicious and inventive cocktails. Food was perfectly cooked - mostly local fare. Flavorful and beautifully-plated. 10/10
Great unexpected surprise you were open for brunch. The shrimp and grits were delicious. The Bloody Maria was ok somewhat disappointing. Definitely will let people know.

This was our first time going to Lucky and went at the advice of a friend. We were not disappointed! From the time we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly hostess/server and brought to our table. We dined on the garlic scrapes an appetizer and amazing! The kimchi, garlic, soy and honey along with the fried garlic scrapes were an unlikely combo, but oh wow- did it work. I dined on the shrimp and grits, which was a new take on the classic and everything on the plate was perfect. My husband opted for the evenings chef special, which was Spanish cooked octopus. If done incorrectly, octopus can taste like a tire; but this was so tender you could cut it with a fork. It had a slight heat on the back end with chili flakes. Dessert we had the “davaroos” which are homemade lavender shortbread cookies with a lemon curd sauce. It was delicious!! Don't even get me started on the craft cocktails. Whatever you can think of, they can make and impeccably I might add . Hands down an amazing experience. We will be back!
Once again an extraordinary dining experience. I was wholeheartedly welcomed by the host and taken to the table of my choice. The ambiance was amazingly cozy and pleasant. My server Brittany did an awesome job introducing me to the Restaurant Week 2025 Lucky Menu, taking my order, and dropping by at the right time to check on me. Once again, amazing food and cocktails. I had the Rappahannock Oysters as appetizer, NY Strip Steak as my main course. And the very savory Pot de Crème dessert. All in all, an extraordinary dining experience. Definitely highly recommend this restaurant.
We picked Lucky pretty much at random while passing through Roanoke and were glad we did. Wonderful vibe, interesting, well-thought-out menu, warm, personable service. The place is tucked away on a downtown side street that looks more like an alley. Inside, cozy and well-appointed. Very good cocktails.
Lucky was amazing food, ambience and vibe. I will stop there every time I'm in Roanoke! Can't say enough about it. Fresh and innovative menu love the staff.
Was pleasantly surprised to have a sommelier help with my wine choice and it was actually very good. Will definitely try the brand again. Our wait staff was polite, social and pleasant. Food was succulent and very tasty.
