The bartenders were so attentive and so kind each night I went. The drinks were amazing and the cheesecake was delicious.

This was my first visit to the Pine Room and 1882 Lobby Bar although I was on a return visit to Roanoke after growing up there. The bar is elegant yet simple and unpretentious with a beautiful rounded bar, a gorgeous night sky painted ceiling, and provided me with one of the best cocktails I have tasted anywhere- their version of a rye old fashioned made with Basil Hayden dark rye. Delicious! The Pine Room is beautifully appointed, again elegant but informal. Penny, our food server was amazing! Gracious, friendly, attending to every need including needs we hadn't even thought of! For an appetizer, we all shared the crispy cauliflower. Amazing! Penny helped provide us the recipe, so we're ready to try making this at home (although I'm sure it won't be nearly as good.) Our group's entrees included the pork shank with smoked collards and sweet potatoes (a big hit!), shrimp and scallop risotto- delicious!, and a ribeye grilled to perfection. Desserts included a free form tart made with apples, blueberries, and pears, and topped with honey vanilla ice cream, and a flight of small cheesecakes. We were a group of old friends (and spouses) gathering and renewing our ties after too many years apart. In many settings, the food would have taken a distant second to the stories and reminiscences, but here in Hotel Roanoke's Pine Room and 1882 Lobby Bar, the food, drink, and spectacular service were a perfect match for a memorable evening!

The new farm-to-table menu is fantastic! I ordered the lamb and my husband ordered the steak. Both were cooked to perfection. The sides complemented the meats wonderfully. The portions were perfect. High recommendation!

Delicious pork shank! My husband is Polish/German and this dish “Golonka”takes him home! Be sure to ask for horseradish and mustard!

Wonderful venue. Not the Regency too. Smaller than Regency. Totally renovated. Quiet enough to hear the piano on the next room. I had a delicious tender tomahawk ribeye. Everything was delicious. Great service.

We had a very positive experience at the Pine Room. Our server, Mark took good care of us. I really enjoyed the Reuben. The pastrami was tender as it should be. I've been disappointed many times ordering a Reuben, but not last night! Love the atmosphere. Thank you!

Four stars, rounding up.This restaurant was recommended to me by a frequent restaurant goer and food connoisseur. Though he also stated that it isn't the nicest restaurant in the Hotel Roanoke, I won't be back here for a meal.I arrived with the intention of ordering the scallops but after not having a proper breakfast or lunch, the chicken sandwich with strawberry pepper jam and fries sounded much more hearty on a bitterly cold winter day. I should have stuck with my plan and retrospectively, I feel as though the server tried to warn me by saying, "but you can get a chicken sandwich anywhere".I was surprised to see my sandwich arrive, splayed open so beautifully but brazenly revealing a small, dark piece of meat that was grossly disproportionate to the bun, lettuce, three tomato slices and abundant onion. Too bad I didn't grab that photo but a side salad with a piece of fried chicken accidentally dropped in would have been a better description. The chicken was small and over cooked, which rendered it unpleasantly hard on the outside and dry on the inside. I let the server know that I intended on eating the rest of my sandwich but my disappointment in my choice. The server returned shortly after to share that the chef said she had not received any other complaints. I pointed out that the bun was old and completely falling apart on the top and bottom. I asked her to take the chef the rest of my sandwich so she could see what I was served. The flavor of the white cheddar and the strawberry pepper jam with the overcooked breading of the chicken were not as satisfying as I had hoped either. Also, honey mustard as a standalone dip for fries was fine.I came home and ate leftover chicken, half of an avocado with plain yogurt and hemp hearts sprinkled on top. I was glad for the protein boost that I had missed that meal and in the day.Although the sweet tea was hardly sweetened, my son and his date were happy with their meals. However, my son commented that his steak was not quite medium rare as he had ordered and I saw that his asparagus was overcooked. The server noted that she could see that the bun on the mushroom burger we ordered was equally old and falling apart. The building is classic, the service was fantastic and the cauliflower was perfect. As the server pointed out, restaurant week is a stressful time for the kitchen. Likely, it was my misfortune to arrange a date with so many events occurring in one day, at a single venue.

Something has changed. We live in Roanoke and frequently dined in the Pine Room (at least once per month for years) and the food was flavorful. The last 2 visits (within the last 2 months) have been very disappointing. Deviled eggs (used to serve 6, now 4) used to have a pickled onion topping with a sauce for great flavor, now they have no topping and are bland. The cauliflower appetizer used to have a spicy kick to it, now it is sweet. For a period of time, they offered a different dinner menu with fresh/great fish- now it is the same daily menu. Lastly, both our dinners (grilled chicken and pimento cheese hamburger) had way too much sodium. Definitely declined. We will not be back.

My wife and I got dinner here last night, to take advantage of the restaurant week pricing of some places to try and see if we can find a new spot to frequent. The Pine Room has fantastic food, the place is gorgeous, but my experience with our server was truly enough to consider not going back. She was polite in the beginning but after ordering drinks, and then deciding to go with the restaurant week menu, it’s like we made her angry about our choice. Her tone and attitude changed from very upbeat and pleasant to like she didn’t even want to wait on us anymore. We were even seated right behind the computers where orders are entered, and despite being that close to our server, or any of the staff for that matter, I had an empty beer glass and water glass and was having to drink my wife’s glass to get through my entree. I really hate that this was the experience I had from a place that even with a discounted menu for restaurant week, I spent over $100 tip included. I thought surely this week would be the one to try and cater to a crowd that would bring new repeat business in, but I guess I was wrong and our server assumed we would not tip well or she wouldn’t make much off of our tab for not ordering from the standard menu. I didn’t get a chance to see our servers name tag, but the name on my receipt is Melanie. I don’t often leave bad reviews but the service here was enough to give my input.

I have been here a number of times and the food is always good but last night we asked if we could have the bread pudding from the Regency Room for dessert. They did bring us bread pudding but it was literally only two bites. I know their desserts aren't a volume of food but that was very disappointing.

Had the smash burger for lunch today.the bacon on it was so tough it literally broke off my eye tooth while trying to eat it. I tried to pull apart the strip of bacon with my fingers and it was hard as stale jerky. Couldn't eat all the burger so I brought it home. Tried to cut it up into smaller pieces with a steak knife and had to remove the remaining bacon to cut it up. The service was great. I didn't want to ruin her day by complaining at the time. Very disappointed in the food. Everyone else said their food was overcooked.

We visited The Pine Room at the Hotel Roanoke after seeing the Roanoke Ballet last Saturday night. The hotel is gorgeous, especially when it's decorated for the holidays! At the Pine Room, we split the cheesecake flight, which included four bite-sized cheesecakes in flavors that rotate seasonally (ours included vanilla bean, mint, amaretto, and chocolate). This sampler is perfect for two people who want to split a small dessert that offers just a taste of something sweet. Service was great and our waiter was friendly and attentive. I'd love to return for dinner at some point!

We had the Ribeye Steak and the Pork Shank, both were delicious! Jacqueline was our server, and she was great! I forgot my phone, left it on the table, and when I realized it after we got home, we called the restaurant and Jacqueline made sure it was taken to the front desk so we could pick it up after hours. Thank you so much! I hope you see this message, and Happy New Year. We will definitely be back!
