Great place, one of the farm to table gems of Roanoke. What a blend of flavors for the Butcher board appetizer, coctails are high quality and then the Pork Chop entree and presentation were amazing.

We stayed at the country in and decided to have a quick dinner upon getting into Roanoke - it was our first time here and we checked out reviews on a few different sources and this one restaurant seemed to be a very solid choice. The organic chicken breadt was excellent, cannot tell you how wonderful it was - they also have a great appetizer menu where you can order a few appetizers in place of an entree. Cozy warm vibe not loud at all you will want to stay for hours and the quality is amazing (we even saw the staff polishing glasses to make sure they were spot free). Our server was Jess and she was wonderful (even holding the door for us after leaving) we look forward to stopping here again on our next road trip and we'll make sure we go Rianoke to come here and in upcoming months. High quality, great care for customer service and the food was exceptional!!!

Passing through Roanoke found The River and Rail online. Showed up an hour before our reservation; no problem, we had our table within 5 minutes. All dishes included something unique. Chicken liver moose; excellent pickled onions! But let me tell you about the ribs; in soy/peanut sauce - WOW!! The colored greens (with kimchi - different but delicious! Beet salad with whipped goat cheese with fresh herbs and pistachios - yummy! An excellent wine selection to top things off - can recommend to anyone!

Hello I ate for the first time 8 years ago, once for my anniversary and again when my daughter was stationed in Korea. All good.
This week worse experience ever both with reluctant service and food I wouldn't feed my dog. Actually my daughter did give her bland chicken breast that's because there were no seasoning or taste to effect my dog's digestion. My wife had the hanger steak no flavor and under cooked and got sick later. I had the mussels with extra bread to suck up the dishwater favored liquid-although the bread was good. So sad. Not to mention the cold outside (29*) was warmer than inside never took our coats off. Waitress ask how we doing we are freezing she said sorry to hear more water.
New! More ways to

This is a top notch restaurant! The food is outstanding- we tried several appetizers and main courses- and the service was fantastic. Melissa was our server who was incredibly friendly and enjoyable to talk with throughout the night. It was an experience rather than just a dinner out. Highly recommend!

I ended up here on a whim while visiting Roanoke and it blew me away. I was by myself so I sat at the bar and started with a Jefferson's Airplane cocktail which was very good. Then I ordered the Smoke in the Chimneys Trout. That was phenomenal! I'm usually not one to order fish but it interested me and did not disappoint. The Farro Verde was very complimentary to the trout and brought it to life. The entire restaurant is a nice quiet place perfect for a couple or small groups. I highly recommend.

We had a reservation and were promptly seated, we were celebrating our anniversary and appreciated the card & drinks on the house. Our server, Caroline, was wonderful. We tried the pickle jar and cornbread appetizers. We had a salad and the hanger steak which were both delicious. The Jefferson airplane drink was also a hit. Yes, the restaurant is loud, but overall a cozy atmosphere. The prices were reasonable and we were happy to try a new spot on our weekend trip to Roanoke.
