Absolutely delicious! I got the seaweed salad, the love potatoes, and the Sumo roll. I also had the iced green tea. My friend got the miso soup, chicken takoyaki, and the wasabi bento lunch special. Everything was excellent, and it was only $85 with tip for all of that food! The service was excellent as well. Highly recommend.

I’ll start by saying that I’m not a complainer, this is my first review. I had ordered the apricot salmon, however there was definitely a language barrier. Totally understandable, I’ve got tones of respect for someone who can come here, work, and learn a second language. The apricot salmon was asked for and pointed out 3 times before being written down. When the food came, I was give a massive meal mostly consisting of sushi, which I cannot eat due to a shellfish allergy in almost all the rolls. I was quick to correct the server, who was young, understanding, and very kind. Absolutely no complaints over him for a mistake that was largely due to the language barrier. He took it back and professionally apologized. The problem comes when who I assume to be the kitchen manager comes out. Off the bat he insisted that I had ordered the incorrect meal, which is not possible as I cannot eat 80% of the dish. He continued to cut me off and reiterate that the confusion was somehow my fault, and kept reinforcing his stance that I had ordered it. Eventually he came to the conclusion that he could make me something else, however said it would be from the sushi bar. I once again explained that it would not be possible for me. He then stated he would be able to get something from the kitchen, however it would take a very long time as he was busy. Busy is one thing, however ANY time something like this happened at any previous high school job, the incorrect order would be prioritized. As my friends only has sushi, I did not want to have to make them wait around for another 45 minutes as we had other plans, so I said not to worry about it, even though I was fully prepared to order teriyaki chicken, to meet the kitchen manager half way in ordering something that would be quick, and something I could eat. After returning from a quick smoke break, my salmon was at the table, by this point I had completely lost my appetite, and didn’t not expect to eat a meal. While eating the meal, I had noticed the salmon was very overcooked. The server was once again apologetic and understanding. To sum it all up, the kitchen really dropped the ball, kitchen manager was very rude, food was not good, and still had to pay the full price. Hoping to give this place another shot, but not so sure yet.

There's a reason they earned the #1 Rating in Roanoke
Wasabi's is an excellent sushi restaurant and is located right in the center of downtown Roanoke. The staff was very attentive, polite, and gracious. They promptly told us our table had a time limit and when we needed to vacate, which was reasonably and no problem meeting. They gave us a lovely booth and served us right away. The staff approached us right after putting down our menus, so we never had to wait very long. They brought us ice water right away and refilled our glasses two times during the meal, so I could never find the bottom of my glass. This is a somewhat small restaurant, so don't expect a ton of space around your table and you may struggle to get a table at peak meal times. I enjoyed the simple framed pictures of sumo wrestlers and other classic Japanese themes.
I thoroughly enjoyed the salad and soup that came with our meal - their garden salad is above average and the miso soup was about what I'd expect. The agedashi tofu appetizer was not somewhat bland, but tasted fresh and what you should expect from tofu. The fish itself was VERY flavorful and came in BIG portions. I had never seen pieces of sashimi or nigiri so large. The sushi at Wasabi's was as good as the fish I ate in Tokyo and New York. Each piece was tasty, delicious, washed down with wasabi and ginger, and I found each one a delightful mouthful that left me wanting more.
I would strong recommend ordering one of the 'party boats' because it has better value in terms of fish per dollar, at the risk of having less control of what food you receive and having to share with others in your party. I was very impressed at Wasabi's and will be coming back.
The service and atmosphere were top notch.I ate vegetarian so I can’t rate most of the menu. My wife enjoyed her sushi. My spring roll was excellent. The tempura was nicely coated but the vegetables were soggy.
we would go back
The absolute best sushi in town
Price and quality was good. The server was attentive and generally took good care of all his tables.
Food was pretty bad and the service was even worse.
Restaurantji Recommends
Our first time having lunch at Wasabi's and were very impressed. We love sushi and are always looking for good restaurants so we'll be coming back again. The quality of the fish was extremely high. The salmon and tuna melted in our mouths and the portions were generous. All the staff were professional, friendly and satisfyingly answered all questions. See you again soon.
We ordered the Dang Bang Shrimp to start, the shrimp were large in size, came out hot, and were absolutely delicious. We order 4 sushi rolls (the Sumo, the Volcano, spicy California, and the broccoli roll) as shown in the pictures. I would never go back and not order the Sumo Roll and the Broccoli roll, they are out of this world! Our server gave great recommendations, knew the whole menu, and was extremely nice! We will definitely be returning soon and can’t recommend Wasabi’s enough!
Was very pleasantly surprised by the A+ service and food. I would highly recommend them if you are in the area.
Best sushi place in roanoke. Make sure you get the sumo roll atleast once. Our sushi preferences have changed now the unagi is on our list. The wasabi special is the best. The nigeri is so large it's the size of two. Itsssss sooooo gooooood!
A full half hour before they close and they don't even let us come in the door, oh no, could not even bother to ask, or they would have known all I wanted was an ice cream. Rudest restaurant downtown. If that's your policy, then post it.
