I’m from Louisiana and used to live in Texas so I’m very particular about Mexican and tamales. The “white sauce” nonsense in Virginia Mexican restaurants is such a red flag. But this place is white-sauce-free! (Keep your miracle whip out of my Mexican tyvm) The chips and salsa are so good here and I would drink the tomatillo salsa served with tamales if they gave me enough. Always excellent service and excellent, authentic, homestyle food. Worth the drive out to Salem!
Overall, this is a fantastic local restaurant. The freshly made dishes are bursting with flavor, and the food truly hits the mark. It's a counter service spot with a small but clean dining area, which adds to its charm. I ordered the chicken fajitas, and they were absolutely perfect – the seasoning was spot-on, and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. I'm definitely coming back the next time I'm in the area. Good stuff!!
