Should have known better, but took the chance anyway. Got there after the app said it was ready only to be told that it was still in the oven. 8-9 people standing around waiting for their food. Finally got it and it was all under cooked. We had to put it back in the oven once we got home to finish it. That included the garlic parmesan sticks. They were another story. Only had drizzle on them. And the extra sauces that were purchased equaled about 1 tablespoon each. Don't recommend and won't be back. On a funny note, an old man was standing at the counter and wasn't being helped by anyone, so he called them and they answered the phone. She wasn't amused, but why ignore the person in front of you? It was funny.

Never order here. Papa Johns or this location specifically is terrible. I just ordered my pizza and bacon cheese sticks, they delivered and it was the wrong ordered and I called them and they said they would fix it, fine. I wait another 30 minutes or so and my order arrives, my pizza came but not my bacon cheese sticks, I called again and they basically tell me they can’t do anything about it. I can’t get a refund or credits, so basically I paid for my bacon cheese sticks and I never got it, they wouldn’t even work with me for a alternate option. I asked to speak with the Manager and the girl on the phone said he would’ve said the same.
Never ordering from here again. Actually so pathetic, I never had such terrible service before, I paid for something I never got.

I’m very disappointed with my recent experience at the Papa John’s in Salem, VA. I purchased five pizzas, and unfortunately the quality was consistently poor across all of them. The crusts were not cooked enough and felt doughy, and overall the pizzas were bland and tasteless.
What makes this especially frustrating is that a few years ago, when a different management team was running this location (Read reviews 2+ years ago), the pizza quality was excellent. Back then, the food was consistently fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared.
Unfortunately, the quality has clearly declined since then. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and works to bring this location back to the standards it once had.

I was going to give a 2 star review because I received the wrong order and was really hungry, but after calling the Salem location at 9pm on 12/20/2025, I spoke with who I assume was the manager/shift lead, and they were extremely kind and took accountability for the problem (Even though it was a DoorDash issue.)
How that person handled this mixup changed my mood entirely, and although I’m starving (lol), they’ve got the right order on the way now 🥳 If you’re the manager I spoke with and you see this, thank you so so much! Your kindness in making it right made my night! (:

The pizza tastes fine but the store repeatedly has left items out of the order. I use the Papa John's app to order but it ends up getting delivered by DoorDash. The store tells the driver that all the items are there and that small things, like extra sauces, are in the box. Except they aren't, and the DoorDash driver can't open the boxes to verify. Very frustrating, especially when you call the store and get told the missing items will be refunded but they never are.

I was just in there the manager was absolutely so rude refused to honor the coupon that I had wouldn't make the pizza the way I asked for it to be made without the cheese I was so rude and kept calling me sweetie I would highly recommend going two steps down the street to Domino's
