Just good. Did not live up to the hype at all. Menu did not reflect what you see over social media. Very limited with few vegetarian options. Pizza oven not working and no Shack burger. Some items were too salty. Overall disappointed and felt it's over priced.
C'mon. Tapas-sized portions. I mean you can pick up a dozen carrots at the farmers market for $5 so it's offensive to pay $15 for basically 2 carrots creatively sliced (albeit well prepared.) The salad was 3 leaves of romaine with a Caesar treatment. Do you know how much grits cost? Zippo. So why place the tiny portion of rockfish on about a tablespoon of grits? Pro tip: he food should not look lonely on the plate. We also experienced comically slow service. (Staff were having to offer free drinks and other concessions to keep diners from rebellion.) It's a shame because the menu is well conceived and the vibe is good.
I’m really ambivalent about this one. First the good: very friendly and knowledgeable wait staff, nice wine selection and absolutely stunning and delicious desserts— have the chocolate cake if it’s on the menu— really great. But the problematics: as others have mentioned the food is wildly inconsistent— the focaccia was burnt— there is no excuse for serving bread like that; the menu has limited options (understandably) and the place is cramped and the music is loud. The bathroom is gross— and I’m not fussy. If I’m going to eat at a “shack” the food better be amazing or inexpensive and here it is neither. Also they have a 3 day cancellation policy on reservations with a charge if you cancel within that window (small place I get it) so be aware of that if you do make a reservation.
Atmosphere and service good. No complaints there. But the food was not good, except dessert which was excellent. The appetizer was way over cooked and the main course, salmon, lukewarm and tasteless. Disappointing response from someone who answered my feedback from a text requesting it.

Excellent food and service was top notch. Happy belated birthday, Ash! We had the cut of Wagyu and catfish dinner plus the fried hand pies. The hand pies in particular were BOMB, like fair food but BETTER! The cinnamon crunch on the outside was perfect. I tried this restaurant because Guy Fieri went here and I’m glad we came out to try it. 10/10.

I had a lovely experience at The Shack. Our waitress, Ash was very helpful, friendly, and gave great recommendations. My catfish dinner was superb and I really enjoyed the hand pies - reminded me of hometown fair food, only elevated.
Amazing food and amazing staff! I went with a very *needy* group of people and the staff handled everything beautifully! Plus, everything I ate was delicious! Definitely worth a visit!

Food was great, really good. It’s a small place and it got really loud inside at one point (one table was loud). Service was great. They have several different specials to choose from. You need to make reservations. Would definitely go back.
Kid-friendliness: Not a good place for kids, it’s small and intimate.

Easily the worst pizza I have ever had. The outer crust was as big as a sub roll and burned black. The bottom crust was paper thin and so soggy that when you picked it up, it flopped down and the sauce (which tasted like Hunts canned tomato sauce) just dripped off. When the server asked me how it was, I said burned and soggy. He said, oh sorry, and walked away. I've been to his other restaurant, Maude and the Bear, and it was excellent, so this was really a disappointment.

Creative and surprising dishes, full of flavor and contrast, beautifully presented in a warm and congenial atmosphere. Cozy and fun!
The shack is always great, both the old tasting menu and the current iteration. The chef in charge these days makes my favorite pastas. Definitely take advantage of the pasta and wine pairing tasting menu.

Honestly, disappointed. Pizza was burnt, which is unfortunate, bc otherwise, the toppings and the dough had good flavor. The undercarriage also had good integrity, and the pizza wasn’t too wet. The flavor of burnt crust overpowers all else though. I could smell the burnt crust from the box on the drive home, for context. A headlamp may help to monitor the crust in the future, as it’s relatively low lightning in the establishment. Open to giving it a second try.
Great food. Fresh, well balanced and friendly service. A great find and well with a visit!

Drove over from Charlottesville for the day. Went to the Sunspots gallery for some glass blowing, to the Woodrow Wilson Museum for a little history, to The Shack for some dinner. We enjoyed our meal. Started with some blistered shishito peppers, duck confit tagliatelle for an entree and some fried apple pies with sorghum ice cream. With a red wine from Austria. All good. Cute place. I will admit that the portions can be on the smaller side.
