Loved this place so much we visited twice in a 3 day trip! Great wine and spectacular grilled cheese - but honestly the best was the warm hospitality of Jen and Leslie! You will miss a great experience if you don’t visit!
My wife and I were in Staunton for two nights with friends and had the good fortune to stop in for a glass of wine and a cheese board. We were treated so well, and we liked it so much, that we returned for lunch the next day. It felt like Cheers to us: the people are the biggest and best asset of the Yelping Dog. We can recommend the charcuterie board - many combinations from which to choose. The grilled cheese sandwiches are terrific, and the beer list is extensive. The prices are more than fair, and this place is a winner.

Do not underestimate the grilled cheese sandwich selection! We split the creamy tomato soup and the Lady Bird. Sandwiches are not huge, but just right. Reasonably priced wines. Service was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is warm with low light moody vibes.

We stopped here for lunch on a Thursday after arriving in town 15 minutes earlier. A friendly face greeted us with a warm smile and seated us with menus. We ordered 2 beers and 2 sandwiches. Our beer was refreshingly ice cold and delicious. We ordered 2 different grilled cheese sandwiches, that were grilled to perfection! The outside of the sourbread was crisp and well-browned while the inside was a delightfully melted and flavorful cheese. I would highly recommend The Yelping Dog!

We had a good day in Staunton, until we didn't. We strolled Beverly Street, made purchases in some shops, and had a nice conversation with the women in the visitors center. During that conversation, we told them we wanted a light meal before going on the scenic railroad. Upon their recommendation, we went to the yelping dog. Our experience was the same as reviewer Judy Henley. The waitress seemed to have an attitude from the very beginning and it only got worse. After serving our food, she never returned to see if everything was okay, or if we needed drink refills. She not only didn't return, it was very obvious she intentionally never looked at our table when she went by to check on tables beside and behind us. The four of us were totally at a loss for the behavior of this waitress. Maybe she doesn't like elderly people.. we're late '70s to '80. We all agreed we have never experienced such behavior by a waitress / waiter. The grilled cheese sandwiches were very good but we would definitely not return, or recommend this place because of the extremely unfriendly service.

We visited with friends and found a great selection of wines, however the service couldn’t have been worse. The only woman working when we first got there was less than welcoming, had an attitude that appeared as through we were an inconvenience to her. Our friends are locals and visit this place frequently, so needless to say we were all highly disappointed.

This was an unexpected surprise. We were in town for an annual guys trip of golf and breweries. Didn't expect to find this diamonds in the rough. The owner and staff were amazing. They catered to our group, like we had been loyal customers for years. I'm not sure we were their normal clientele. 😀 It was awesome to see the owner interact with her staff. Thank you to Jen and Julie for putting up with us. We will be back. Be prepared!!

Such a wonderful place to catch up with friends or just sit and read solo (which is what I did). I have the Colli Moscato and the hot apple and pesto crostinis. Both were great but the pesto was the absolute star. Will absolutely be back.

Our favorite stop in Staunton while walking through town. Three high school girlfriends staying at The Fredrick House which just a short walk to The Yelping Dog. It was a friendly place with a lot of good wines and a nice food menu, also. The grilled cheese sandwiches are wonderful and I would highly recommend the one with meatballs on it which my 2 friends got and I tasted. It was exceptional. I tried the grilled cheddar with tomato jam and it was very good, but, I would have loved it if the tomato jam was spicy, not sweet. On another visit I tried the crostini with goat cheese and sun dried tomatoes, delicious! The staff were all so friendly and attentive. This is a must stop place in Staunton!
Good wine, good beer, and even better cheese :) The waitress/bartender was lovely. A very nice little
