Crab Cakes were over cooked . Hush Puppies almost black on the outside, not cooked on the inside. Rest of our meal was mediocre at best.

Where can I start. 1710 and Essex Inn came to our rescue hosting my Mother in Law's reception after her service as well as a private dinner at Essex Inn this past Saturday. although they were slammed Saturday night the service , food and attention toe every detail for the dinner was above expectations. For the Memorial Reception they delivered exceptional walk around and shared appetizers over a 3 hour period. Every hot appetizer was perfect. Greg and his team were so professional yet offered an atmosphere appropriate for the celebration. Many of the friends and family members had not been to either location and will now return when they are here. Thank you Greg amd Jennifer for making a a day filled with emotio memorable as most of our gathering were around food, family and drink and it was a perfect way to celebrate a life well lived with family and friends.

Cool place, went on a Saturday night. Server kind of disappeared after taking my order. Got a pork chop, and I get that pork can be eaten similar to a steak, but it was less than rare it was raw, which made it gross. I ate a little bit of it from around the outside but it was a total miss. Brought it home for the dogs. If you have a bone in pork chop and you leave the fat cap on it, you need to cook it AT LEAST medium to break down some of the connective tissue and render some of the fat. I was served a raw slab of pork that was chewy because it wasn't cooked. For a 200 dollar dinner I was dissapointed I had to hit a drive through on the way home. The crab cake appetizer was good, although the presentation is wholly pretentious with some weird vinegar horse radish mustard sauce and a celery and herb relish on the side. I'd rather have good food executed well than trying to be showy and elevate dishes while missing basic concepts.

Micky and TJ did a terrific job on the cocktails. Our waitress Ashley was on top of everything, The Filet was better than my previous fav Ruth's Chris, special was Swordfish... amazing. Desert apple cake is another level... what can I say, this is world class but near the Northern Neck of VA. Will be back ... with friends and family. Oh and the prices are very reasonable for fine dining.

The 1710 Tavern in Tappahannock, VA presents a historical environment that is beautiful, and welcoming! It is definitely an Instagram-worthy atmosphere. The food is delicious – along with great service – TJ was by far very accommodating! The crab soup was over the top – and – the duck was so tender and tasty it just melted in my mouth. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience!!

We were visiting the area for a weekend and came here for cocktails. The bartender was very friendly and attentive & made us delicious drinks. The food looked good, so we ended up getting two appetizers (the crab cakes and lamb lollies) as well as the special for the night, rockfish with lobster risotto. Everything was amazing, especially the lobster risotto. We got the carrot cake for dessert which was a very large portion! The ambience was very chill and we enjoyed our evening here. Would highly recommend.

I really loved the crabcakes. They remind me of how my grandma made them all meat no filler or extra Unnecessary stuff with classic seasonings that I’m used to. This is the only place I was able to find really good crab-cakes Like my family made them. The she crab soup was the best I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot of she crab over the years. I ended up having to get the duck to go, but overall I enjoyed that as well. The atmosphere and service was good no complaints and they were kid friendly. Really neat old building which I loved but it is pricey due to find dining and good fresh ingredients.

I grew up in Tappahannock, my grandparents lived in Dunnsville and my uncle owns the house now. I went to SMS. Tappahannock hasn’t had a nice sit down restaurant in YEARS. This place has potential. My friends and I made a reservation for Friday night inside since the temperature had been ridiculously hot. We changed that to outside since things had cooled off. Parking is great right on Water St. we walked in and checking in was a bit unorganized but didn’t let that deter. We were taken outside to our table. What a great space outside! Our server was a bit green but has potential. We were offered the patio menu and cocktail menu. We were then asked if we wanted the indoor menu. We didn’t know that was an option so we said we would love to see if. My friend and I ordered the crab hush puppies, OMG good and the lamb lollipops, so good! I ordered the crab cake poboy which was ok, I wouldn’t order it again, though. My friend ordered the oyster poboy, she said it was good. My other friend ordered the scallops off the inside menu. He said they were good. However, the poboys were around $15 and the scallops were $38. There were four maybe five scallops in a pasta type bowl on something. In all honesty, for $38 put it on a bigger plate and make it look better. I was a little taken back by the lackluster presentation for that money. Our reservation was at 8pm so I realize things weee winding down when we finished dinner. I ordered the crème brûlée which is my all time favorite dessert. I was so excited. The only thing the server said wasn’t available was the popovers. We totally understood. The crème brûlée came out and it wasn’t brûléed at all. It was good but just had granulated sugar on top. I let the server know and the response was, “oh well, I thought it was burning”. Umm, you’re a server why are you telling us the desserts are make in house if you’re making them? She didn’t even attempt to apologize. IDK, would o go back? Possibly but I’d wait a while.
