UPDATE: I have since found out that the ownership changed several months ago. I understand there is a learning curve when taking over an established business. That being said, the new owners are clearly frustrated with all the negative reviews, including mine. I feel like they are trying too hard to defend the reasons why they are getting bad reviews. Just read what your customers are trying to tell you and work on turning things around. A properly trained staff (young or old), and adherence to the tried and true recipes will result in a better quality product as well as more favorable customer reviews in the future.
ORIGINAL POST: For the past 3 years, we have been once a week customers of Brooklyn Pizzeria. It was the best New York Style pizza we could find in the area. I’m not sure what is happening now, but the last few times we have been in it was total chaos, kids running the show, cooks not having a clue as to what they are supposed to do, and orders not ready. The owner was nowhere to be found. I can only hope the owner reads reviews and will do whatever is necessary to turn this establishment back around. We want the old Brooklyn Pizzeria back!

Sad transition has occurred here. We used to eat Brooklyn weekly. Tried twice in the last two months and it was terrible both times. Crust changed, sauce changed, vibe changed…must be under new ownership. Too bad. Used to be the best in Va Beach. No longer the case and I won’t eat it again.

We entered the restaurant at 12:45pm and one other person was eating pizza. They have one size pizza, 18”, which seemed odd. I had to yell for someone to come help. One cook was staring out front window and then a lady was in the back. We ordered an 18” pizza with 3 toppings and 2 fountain drinks and quite shocked it was $36, but if great pizza all good. It was not. After a 20 minute wait we were delivered our pizza. The special thing advertised about this place is they have a special water filter that makes water taste like New York water and then the pizza tastes like New York. It was the most bland pizza ever, no flavor at all. The toppings were good but on a bland crust, not good. As we were trying to eat the pizza we noticed the cook start to clean the oven . He attached what looked like a dirty mop to the pizza stick and started wiping the inside of the oven. Just the thought that the
Mop could be from the floor made us say enough. We quickly grabbed a box and put the pizza in and quickly left. Not a good experience and we will not return. Sad.

While I thought $9 was kind of steep for a piece of cheesecake….this was one of the best cheesecakes I have ever had. The owners greeted me when I walked in and the cashier was super nice. Will definitely be returning!

I am for second chances, but Brooklyn Pizzeria fail short again today. We order the Brooklyn style pizza. On the menu it can with a tomato red sauce, pepperoni, white onions, mushrooms, cheese and green pepper. The crust was a nice thickness, but not seasoned at all. The sauce was tasty, but on the sweet side. The toppings other than pepperoni where none existent. The onions were few and the mushrooms was diced to abliven. There was no seasoning which the pizza really need for freshness. Sorry but there will not be a third chance.

I’ve eaten bad pizza before but I’ve never been moved to write a Google review about it until today. This was an annual stop for us on our trip to VB. “Was” is the operative word.
I placed an order online for five pizzas and was told it would take an hour to pickup. I arrive a few minutes late to find that there was no order. After investigation by the counter staff, it turns out my order had not been printed because on the weekend they don’t take orders for five or more pizzas. The counter girl asked me to cancel a pizza but said they would move the order to the front of the line and give me a 50% discount. So, we went next door for a beer to kill 30 minutes.
A half-hour later, I returned, the counter girl had no recognition of me. During the process, she checked out another customer who tried paying cash. Apparently, they couldn’t take cash because they didn’t have money to make change.
Anyhow, back to my order. They finally found everything and told me to have a good evening. I had to remind them to refund the canceled pizza. And then I asked if I got my promised discount. The counter girl gave me a dead-eyed stare and said she had to ask her owner who was in the parking lot. Eager to put this nightmare to an end, we just left.
The pizza was below average. Most of it had black dust on it from the ovens not being cleaned regularly. The garlic knots were hit and miss.
I remember a different crew of Italian guys running the show here. If I were them and saw how the business was being treated after all those years of building it up, I’d be mad.
A hard pass on future visits.

Went two times too this location. The first time I went and dine in with my family, it was delicious and everyone friendly. The second time I went I called to place the an order for pick up and was told 25 mins when I got there it wasn’t even started the guy making the pizza was very moody and annoyed. They were very busy and everyone else kept communication and giving updates on my order. Definitely a different taste from when the guy was making the pizza but it was still good just not as delicious as the first time. Otherwise the pizza is good look forward to get pizza again just not a busy weekend so it’s not rushed.

Pizza places are supposed to be fun…
We were supposed to grab a slice and boy were we disappointed. It was date night. We’ve tried this place before with mixed reviews but due to others raving we wanted to give this another chance.
We enter and it’s odd , no greeting , no eye contact, place is pretty empty. Not dirty but def not clean. We approach the counter. Figure what we want and try to order.
They weren’t really even listening so we had to repeat a few times. No people skills no training no personality. No management to guide them if they were new. Took a phone call over taking our order too. Sigh
But the biggest thing… no dough…(see poor management a trend here) to make our first choice pizza roll and also no slices . So we bite our lips and order a whole pizza. Then we wait.
We are NOT the only ones. A few others walk in and walk out. No slices. No Stromboli dough. We don’t have that…
We greatly get the pizza and rush home to try it.
It’s ok. Lil burnt on the bottom. But we choked it down. Was it worth the $$. Nope.
Disappointed. I would not return. I’ve spent a lot of money trying to like this place.
Ps I’m from NY and the water didn’t help
Pss You can justify this with a new staff but if management wasn’t there to train them really how do ever expect it to change? How much accountability can you pass on to your new employees? I guess all of it.

So gutted. Use to go to this place once a week since moving here over a year ago. Such a great pizza. I don’t know what’s happened, but I’ve been away and came back recently. The pizza chef having to ask questions on how to make a certain pizza and to top it off, a load of excess flour on my pizza when I got home. Taste, look and everything is so bad. Have to go to shorebreak now instead sadly.

We went there tonight looking forward to pizza and garlic knots. We have been many times and have had mostly positive experiences. Sadly, tonight was not good at all. The place was empty when we got there and we ordered. We were told there were no garlic knots so we were already a little bummed. We sat down. At the 30 minutes mark one of the girls working came to tell us that they were really behind from take-out orders but they were going to be starting ours soon (1 pizza) and it should be 15 minutes once they put the pizza in. Granted, I feel like this is information that should have been shared when we were ordering so we could have decided then whether to stay or not. At roughly 50 minutes, our pizza came out and it was wrong. We ordered a half cheese, half one topping pizza and the whole pizza was covered with the topping. After almost an hour of waiting to eat, and then getting a pizza that wasn't even correct I think this is probably the last time we will be going to Brooklyn Pizza unfortunately. I have noticed the last couple of times that things seems to be going downhill in terms of cleanliness and taste of food so this was probably the final straw. I am aware that there is a curve when there is new staff and I am aware that food places are down in staff but this was definitely disappointing and perhaps there should be a better system in place to help adjust for these things so that quality of food and customer service aren't completely compromised.

I’m so sad , this was our most favorite pizza in Virginia Beach but I not sure if the owners switched or what happened. Been 3 times and it’s just not the same , first was waiting an extra 40 mins for half my order. Then stopped in for a slice and no specialty pizza . Just picked up my order and pizza was cold and the sauce is completely changed ! Even my kids are asking why the pizza is so sweet. It’s literally so disappointing. Why change the sauce ?!
Edited we truly loved this pizza for years and hope they can figure everything out quick ! Was just so disappointed couldn’t even eat the pizza last night .
Glad to hear they are fixing the situation

Pizza was good but wow was there a lot going on. The teenage girl working had her very long hair worn down and in the tomatoes she was cutting. She chopped up some chicken for a salad and tossed a piece of the chicken in her mouth as she finished up. Doing all this without any gloves or hair net, she then took the rag she wiped the counter down with and cleaned the knife she was using to chop the salad stuff. I sat in disgust right across from the food prep area watching multiple employees not washing hands, playing in their hair and scratching their faces without using gloves or handling food safely. The employees had what looked like beach clothes on with sandals and open toed shoes. All very nice, but so unsanitary I’m not sure how they haven’t been shut down by health inspectors.
