Everything was really good. Definitely try the key lime pie. Highly recommend. 😊

A Disheartening Experience on a Milestone Celebration at Cobalt Grille

We reserved a private room at Cobalt Grille to celebrate our daughter's remarkable achievement—earning her doctorate degree, a first in our family. This occasion was meant to be a joyous and memorable milestone. Regrettably, the experience fell far short of our expectations and marred what should have been a celebratory evening.

Upon arrival, the media package we had paid for was incomplete; we had to request the remote multiple times before receiving it. This initial oversight set a concerning tone for the evening.

The service provided by our waitress was notably subpar. She moved at an unhurried pace, lacked basic courtesy, and failed to inquire if we desired refills or additional drinks. Our table remained cluttered with dishes from both appetizers and main courses, which we began to stack ourselves in hopes they would be cleared—yet they remained untouched.

When we addressed our concerns with the on-site manager, his offer of a champagne toast felt like a superficial gesture rather than a meaningful resolution to the issues we faced.

The waitress's demeanor was unprofessional; she interacted with us as though our presence was an inconvenience, speaking in a manner that suggested we were a burden. The culmination of these issues was a prolonged wait of over an hour to receive our checks—a delay that is, unfortunately, not an exaggeration. Ultimately, we left the private room and waited by the register to settle our bill.

Our daughter was visibly upset, and the cold food only compounded our disappointment. The negative energy and lackluster service overshadowed the entire evening, turning a significant family celebration into a distressing experience.

We hope that Cobalt Grille takes this feedback seriously and implements necessary improvements to ensure that future patrons do not endure similar disappointments, especially during moments meant for celebration.

I booked through OpenTable via the restaurant website which offered the “seating” option of the Mother’s Day menu or the normal menu, we picked the normal menu. I also confirmed two days prior, just to be sure, as there was nothing we were interested in on the Mother’s Day menu. We arrived about 20 minutes early for a 6 PM reservation, and there were a few other guests but not many. Greeted and seated
 then waited
We received water about 10 minutes in, then 10 minutes later our tea and soda order was taken. I asked what was available for the kids, as it was explained there would be a kids' menu available as well for the day, and asked if we could get the standard menu. She said there wasn’t a kids' menu, but they would make them chicken fingers or grilled cheese. She skipped the second part of my question. It wasn’t until we watched three other tables leave due to the menu miscommunication that we understood.
Sadly, we decided to stay. The she-crab soup was runny, and the seasoning was overpowering. The green salad was ok; my wife didn’t like her Caesar. Whatever the beef option was, it was not good. The potatoes appeared to be from a box, possibly, and the green beans were definitely in a steamer for far too long. I asked for the Penne and Chicken in a champagne sauce. It was also very runny and tasted like they accidentally poured too much champagne in to make the sauce. The key lime pie was ok. This was more like a bad wedding banquet meal.
Gratuity was included, along with a credit card service fee that were only both disclosed at the end on the receipt. It didn’t appear they ran the service fee. Will try again when the normal menu is available and will update accordingly if it’s a better or worse experience/taste.

Went for Mother’s Day and we were disappointed. For the cost the serving size was laughable but more importantly the quality of food & preparation was pretty sad. My wife’s food came out cold, the mashed potatoes were obviously instant potatoes. Essentially Applebees quality food marketed as a local gem. Only reason I’m giving two stars is because the hostess & waitstaff was solid. Not to mention the bench my wife was sitting on was literally falling apart. It’s sad that this is considered a good place to eat in Va Beach.

Waited way too long for our food, and when it finally came, the chicken tenders were burnt. Our table wasn’t cleared, and the service was slow and unbothered. Disappointing overall.

Simply sublime cocktails and quality food - customer service was top-notch, bearing in mind we had a large group visiting on mutiple ocassions. A return visit is an absolute must!

After seeing numerous people recommending the Beef Wellington I decided to go with my wife for date night. To start with it's in a strip mall which ok I'll give it a chance of being good. I mean some of the best hidden gems are in a strip mall. As soon as we entered the restaurant the amount of noise from conversations was almost overwhelming, it felt more like a bar or Applebee's then a higher end establishment. We get seated immediately which is always a plus. The waitress was immediately over which is another positive. However the amount of noise in the dining room was worse than that in the bar area. I ordered sweet tea which surprisingly they don't have. We had beef carpaccio and she crab soup for appetizers. The she crab soup was heavily spiced taking away all of the crab flavor. The beef carpaccio was really good though. For dinner I had the steak frites ordered medium well and it came out at almost blue. Which is better than being over cooked. The french fries that came with it had no seasoning at all on them. The peppercorn cream sauce was haphazardly put on the steak. As for the Wellington it's definitely not worth the $55.00. The amount of spinach that came with it would make Popeye extremely happy. The mushrooms were not chopped or minced at all. Just large slices. Its definitely not a traditional Wellington. And as a final thought don't put anything on a plate that you're not supposed to eat. The large sprigs of rosemary that came out with every dish would cause Gordon Ramsay to have a coronary.

I just had a very lovely late afternoon lunch with my wife at the Cobalt Grill. The service was excellent as was our meal. Thank you! We will return!

My family and I went for my birthday. They had special birthday menus for our table. The service was great and we did not wait long for our food or drinks. The only complaint was the Caesar salad needed a little more dressing. However the calamari was good without the sauce and the steaks were cooked to perfection.

The food is really good. I had the Brazino filet and calamari as an appetizer. The atmosphere is nice with outdoor seating as well. The staff was friendly, and the owners were very involved. They also have Burger Night, which is super cool with a plant-based option.

For many, many years, this has been one of our favorite restaurants in Virginia Beach . Vegetarian entree is always excellent. Alvin and his staff are friendly, efficient and accommodating. Fits into the hidden gem category as well as being a nice place for dinner for two.

Almost always a great experience. Unfortunately, this time, not so great. Blackened tuna was overcooked and dry. But the mussels were awesome!

My family and I went to Cobalt Grille for the first time yesterday. What a great place! We had appetizers (baked goat cheese and the she crab soup) that were excellent. Our entrees (fish & chips, cobalt bleu burger and the chicken penne pasta) were delicious and perfectly cooked. For dessert we shared the Cobalt crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e sampler - so unique and tasty! The service was excellent - what a great experience we had. We’ll definitely be back.

The waitress never offered us a drink, we had to ask for our drinks and refills. She only came by to drop off our drinks and bring the food. Other than that she was no where to be seen. I requested my filet mignon medium well and it was served medium rare. The waitress did not come by until 45 minutes after bringing the food. At that point I just did not eat.
