One of my absolute favorite places! My mom visited a year ago, and still raves about Commune!
Be ready for communal seating, and someone's even great conversation with new friends!

Lunch experience greatly diminished by the staffs agressive unloading of silverware and dishes. 40 minutes of banging and clanging when you are trying to enjoy a meal and with company. An ounce of mindfulness could prevent this miserable soundtrack.

Commune in Virginia Beach positions itself as a thoughtful, farm-to-table spot, but the experience fell flat. While a few entrées had promise, the overall impression was marred by careless choices and service that lacked any real sense of hospitality. The biggest misstep came from the kids’ menu: the waffle did not state it was made with cornmeal. That omission matters — it’s not a minor detail when you’re serving children. We sent it back, but the restaurant still chose to charge for it, a decision that says more about their priorities than their food ever could.

Service only reinforced that feeling — rushed, impersonal, and seemingly focused on flipping tables as quickly as possible. Add to that an unnecessary credit card surcharge at the end, and the message is clear: the customer experience is an afterthought. Commune could be a standout, but right now it feels like a restaurant more concerned with policy and profit than creating meals and moments worth returning for.

Thought this would be my vibe but the food, while fresh, was below par. After spending $70 I’m still starving and unsatisfied. Accommodations were far and few.

Great food and coffee. The perfect place for breakfast or brunch - being a little further out it is less chaotic and busy and the quality of the food is higher in my opinion. Great place!
