This was my first time having Ethiopian food and it was delicious. I would definitely go back to try another dish and take some time getting used to eating with my hands.

Delicious flavorful traditional foods. Im pretty sure the entire menu is gluten free but not labeled as such. Vegan and vegetarian options clearly labeled.

We arrived early and just before the dinner crowd. I'm glad we did because the service was really slow. Once the dinner crowd showed up, our server disappeared. Seemed to be the only person working. It was our first time here, so it was a surprise that we were expected to eat with our fingers. We ordered a pot of tea, but it didn't arrive until we were nearly finished with our meal. The food was great! Service was slow. Air Conditioning must have been broken which made it miserable waiting for food and then the check. We might come back to order take out, but it won't be during meal times.

I am Ethiopian and have visited many Ethiopian restaurants, so I have a good understanding of what traditional dishes should taste like. I recently visited Mesob Restaurant in Virginia Beach for the first time with my family, and unfortunately, the experience did not meet our expectations.
We went on a Wednesday during a fasting day and ordered two vegetarian combo plates to be served on one platter for lunch. When the food arrived, some of the usual items were missing from the combination. The Mesir Wot did not have the flavor we are used to, the green beans didn’t look fresh, and the Gomen (collard greens) also didn’t seem fresh. However, we did enjoy the salad.
Before leaving, we ordered two vegetarian plates to take with us for dinner. Later, when we opened them at our hotel, we found that both were missing some of the typical items. One plate had only green beans and cabbage, while the other had Mesir Wot, Shiro, and cabbage.
I don’t usually write reviews, but I wanted to share my honest experience. I believe Mesob has potential, and I hope this feedback is helpful. With more attention to quality and consistency, it could offer a better representation of authentic Ethiopian and Eritrean food. I wish them all the best moving forward.

Restaurantji Recommends
The food nothing spectacular initially because it was rather bland, at least my chicken dish. Surprised that did not have samosas on the menu or traditional doro wat, I had to settle but the waitress brought some heat to the table which spiced up my food. The waitress was an absolute gem and very attentive to my family's experience. There wasn't anything spectacular about the interior of the restaurant and it didn't seem to seat groups more than four. The area of the shopping center was kinda sketchy.

The staff was friendly. I ordered the vegan fitfit. I absolutely loved it. It was so delicious. I live in NC and this restaurant is 3 hours away. I have been thinking about when I can get back there to have this food. The drive is worth it.

Authentic flavors and warm hospitality. The injera is perfectly tangy. I recommend option 14, you get a good size sampling of 4 different vegan/vegetarian dishes. Great little spot. Get out of your bubble and try some new cuisine! You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely Incredible Ethiopian Cuisine!
I would highly recommend having Bunna (Ethiopian Coffee) and Shai (Ethiopian Black Tea) before ordering the meal! Such a rich aroma!!
The food was bursting with flavor, authenticity, and warmth. Every dish was beautifully spiced and perfectly prepared - the injera was soft and tangy. You can truly taste the love and tradition in every bite.
The portions were generous and it felt like a homemade meal showing how genuinely they care about their craft. If you’ve never tried Ethiopian food, this is the perfect place to start.
Highly recommend to anyone who appreciates fresh, soulful cooking. I’ll definitely be coming back! ❤️❤️
