Montego Island Grill

This place was a big let down. I hadn’t been here before, but took my friend who had never had Jamaican food before.

Coco bread: 6/10 the ends tasted stale.
Oxtail and cabbage: 8/10; honestly those were the best things I had.
Fried Plantain: 6/10: tasted like they were just reheated and not fresh.
Rice and 0: so disappointing. Tasted old and like it was just reheated. Very dry and I needed to use the gravy from the oxtail to make it palatable.

Not worth the price at all. And a disappointment for my first time having Jamaican food in VA.

The food was great. I did the curry goat. However, as big as the plate was, my plate wasn’t full of goat. Most potatoes. I went back to get the oxtail Rasta pasta. It was good with a good spice but little oxtail.

I have always enjoyed going to this place however, tonight was all the way off! We were greeted at the door by a young lady on the phone telling us we can find a seat; when the waiter comes to the table, hs response is "oh y’all need menus?" Well duh! After he took our order, we decided we wanted cornbread for an appetizer. I asked the original young lady for cornbread appetizer. She brought one piece of cornbread. We then found the waiter and asked is that how they serve their cornbread appetizer, he said no it comes in a basket of four OK great so he brought us a basket no problem. My peas and rice; I have never had peas and rice that was drier than fried rice in my entire life!!! It had absolutely no flavor.

The first mistake I made, was to go inside this restaurant hungry! I just bought 2 large oxtail with rice and peas, then mac and cheese. Also, a small order of the same thing for my daughter, a side of cabbage, and a curry goat roti. It cost me a little over $90. I WANT MY MONEY BACK! The food was dry! How do you have a dry tasting roti?? I had to use the gravy from my oxtails to assist with how dry the meat inside was. The mac and cheese was okay, but it had this sweet taste to it that I didn't like. I was expecting a traditional mac and cheese. Oh, I also ordered jerk chicken (a 6 piece)! It was fried too hard. The rice could've been cooked a little longer, as there were some crunchy spots, and it was a little on the spicy side. I don't usually write a review, but I'm soooooo annoyed. I feel like I waited an hour for my food. I drove another 25 minutes to get home, just for it to taste like a teenager made it. Mental note, if you go into a restaurant after work with hardly no customers sitting down to eat, do an about face and walk out! 😡
At least the customer service was decent 🤦🏾‍♀️

Donte...you know how to make a drink! The food was amazing 👏🏾 😋. I was skeptical but the food was a lot, and tasty. My friends you get a 10 out of 10. GREAT JOB!

Normally I don't write reviews but I was not pleased with my dinner at all. I ordered a curry chicken roti. There were no potatoes and no chick peas. The shell it was served in was not an actual roti shell more like a flour tortilla. I also ordered BBQ wings but supposedly there wasn't BBQ so I ordered sweet and tangy. The first thing I noticed was the color of the wings. When I grabbed a wing to taste it the smell turned my stomach. The fries were hot but smelled like it was fried in an ash tray. I was so disappointed bc I was missing home and wanted some carribean food. I will not be going back to this place.

I’ll start by saying we overlook this place multiple times because it looked too modern for the type of Caribbean restaurant we were looking for. We typically go for the hole in wall Jamaican place where the food is as authentic as it gets. But to our surprise it was EVERYTHING we were looking for! We ordered Curry Chicken, Jerk Chicken, Fried Whiting, Mac n Cheese, Cabbage, Yams and rice & beans with coco bread! The Mac n cheese taste sweet it was different it taste like yams. Other than that everything was perfect! Service was phenomenal, food came fast hot and ready! The Coco bread was so delicious by far the best we’ve had and we travel to multiple places to eat

It's always good vibes, good company, and good, hot, tasty food wither I'm dinning in or carrying out. The Reggae Pasta🔥, sweet & tangy chicken & shrimp appetizer are my favorite. If you haven't experienced this restaurant, I suggest it be your next dinning option. It will definitely have your taste buds dancing!!

I meant to leave this review MONTHS ago: EVERYTHING was from SCRATCH! The BEST Mac and Cheese I’ve had at a Caribbean restaurant EVER ( I’m talking up and down the EASTERN SEABOARD!). The food was fresh, our server was AMAZING, and the owner was Modest, Humble, and Magnanimous.🙏🏾💪🏾👑. This restaurant is underrated, and definitely due their praises! Montego Island, is, HANDS DOWN, the BEST CARIBBEAN CUISINE IN THE 757! If you do Jamaican food, and are in the area, you HAVE to get to this MECCA of Caribbean Cuisine! DON’T SLEEP!!!!🤤🍽️🌴👏🏾

Food delicious. 10/10. Vibe was dope music and service everything. Dante was our waiter and he was amazing. I will be back. Thinking about having them cater my wedding. That's how good the food was ‼️
