Surf Rider

Staff was excellent. Very attentive, kind and helpful. However, the Broiled Seafood Platter was overcooked quite a good deal. The fish was dry as well as the shrimp. Additionally, the price of almost $50 for said platter, does not reflect the NOT $50 of food we received, unfortunately.

My go to for a crab cake! Usually get the crab cake sandwich. Never disappoints however, wish onion rings could be substituted for fries for this item as they can be for their burgers.

Surf Rider has some great food. Fried foods were perfect and not greasy. Seasoning was wonderful for all my choices. I don’t like overly salted food and that was not the case at Surf Rider. Perfect outing for a Sunday afternoon

Everytime I go there no baked potato. I'm was told that they only cooked twenty potatoes and night.

SUPER DISAPPOINTED!! We have always been fans of Surf Rider & the Calimari But this is our second visit this year that has disappointed at this location. To go ordering policy (cannot call ahead) & change to Calamari ( now big purple chunks w tentacles vs old fried rings) are not indicative of the level of service & food we have been accustomed to at Surf Rider

The food was delicious and there was plenty to eat.

Seafood is always spot on, and the staff are super friendly and attentive. And, have been for decades.

Our dining experience was exceptional because of our wonderful waitress Crystal. She made our first experience one to remember and we will revisit when back in town. Please Please keep Crystal as one of your employees because she is hard to come by. Thank you Crystal The Sparrows

We've been regular diners at the Kempsville location for several years since it opened and have had nothing but the best service and great food (I'm partial to the she-crab soup but everything else on the menu is superb!). I was introduced to Surf Rider at Bay Point when I worked at NABLC and was hooked so it was great to see them open the Kempsville location. We highly recommend Surf Rider, not just the Kempsville Location but all of them. Top quality restaurant!

My mother and I came into the bar to order take out. It took over 30 mins for our food to come out just for there to be hair in one of our boxes of food. It took another 15 mins for them to remake it. We get all the way home when we realized we did not receive one of our side orders. Now that’s strike 2; we attempted to call 2 numbers listed on Google for the restaurant and kept getting put to voicemail. Unfortunately, my mother decided to drive back to the restaurant for a refund. The manager advised my mother she needed to bring her half eaten food back to the restaurant as well. Now why would she need to do that? We then brought her half eaten food back just for the manager to deny us a refund. She claims she can’t refund for food already eaten. Now, why would we not start eating food that we PAID for. That’s not our fault the restaurant neglected to give us our entire order. The manager proceeded to be very combative, aggressive, and unapologetic in denying us any resolution. The overall experience seemed very racially driven and no regard for serving black and brown people. So we essentially walked away with paying for food we NEVER received. The manager couldn’t care less for their wrong doing. No sorries, apologizes, or empathy from the manager at Surf Rider at Kempsville. Do not eat here. They do not care about doing the right thing.

I placed a takeout order on Thursday, but you would think you can call it in; Nope you have to physically go there to place an order. The order was for a 5:30 pickup and we got there at 5:15 the food was on the counter. I have to say the only thing that was really great was the baked potatoes the scallops over cooked the flounder was so dry you could only pick it up like French fries and we ordered two orders of the hush puppies and they are usually great , however last night they were burnt and you could use them for golf balls. That’s Sad!

We were really looking forward to trying this neighborhood restaurant. I don’t usually write reviews but this deserved one. I would give it negative stars if I could. First you can’t call in an order. Has to be done at the bar. I never encountered this before. Got home and it was the wrong order. 20 minutes later I’m back for my food. No attempt made to keep food warm or comp me with a new order. The food was cold and tasteless. Don’t expect fresh cut fries. These were obviously frozen and tasteless.
