I went in for my birthday dinner on a Wednesday! The bartender Lizzie and manager Amanda were very attentive! I asked for medium well but got well done and when I said something they BOTH were so quick to grab me the correct temp steak! 🥩 service alone will make me come back! Enjoyed my birthday dinner. Will be coming back!

We are on vacation from Ohio. We had dinner here and it was absolutely delicious!!! The steaks were made exactly how we ordered. The kids (3&5) got the steak bites and loved them. Our waiter Josh was great! If you come at 4pm then you get sirloin steak for $15 or salmon for $15!

Dining at Butcher’s Son is always an unforgettable experience, but what truly sets this place apart—besides the perfectly cooked steaks and warm ambiance—is the exceptional service, especially from Daniel.
He brings a level of care and professionalism that’s rare to find, and he always treats us like family. 100% recommend

There was an 'early bird special' that included free dessert advertised in VA Neach Visitors Guide magazine. Restaurant would not honor the complete deal without a copy or picture of the deal.
Also, if you're paying with a credit card you will be paying a surgcharge. Didn't find out until it was time to pay the bill.

This was the worst dining experience we have had in years. $45 for a steak the size of a baby's fist, with the consistency of shoe leather. Jalapeno peppers stuffed with cream cheese , frozen spinach and enough garlic that all I taste 2 hours later is garlic. The place is so loud that we may as well have gone to a hockey game instead. I rested my arms on the table and lifted them up, only to find that they were stuck to the table and the floor or table was so lopsided that our mediocre drinks nearly fell off in the process. Oh, I forgot, the server made herself up like Elvira and had the personality of a 13 year girl who wanted to run away from home. My wife and I agreed that we should have gone with our guts at that point, instead of 3 hours later with our bloated stomachs. Ya'll need to shut this place down and start over- COMPLETE DISASTER!

I had such a great experience here! I needed a place to host a party of 15+ for a celebration and I am very glad I found this place. The service was absolutely amazing and the area was put together so nicely. We had the most amazing server that serviced all of my party! She did such a phenomenal job! She was very polite, attentive, and friendly! Now the food was great as well, especially the rolls! Delicious! I ordered the farmhouse chicken dinner and it was great. They give you large portion sizes for a reasonable price! We also ordered the appetizer seafood nachos which was very good! It's most certainly enough to share! I highly recommend dining here!

Let me say that the food was 5/5 as always! The shrimp and grits special was out of this world. But tonight…the service was lacking something fierce. We have been here dozens of times because its always a great time and great food but something must have been off tonight. We barely saw our waitress, the food took forever to come out, one of the drinks ordered took 30 minutes to come out. They did comp the one drink and a dessert but overall the service was just not good tonight. Hopefully just an off night for the crew

Really was not thrilled, we heard it was the best steak around. It was not. Both of our meals were not good and most deff not worth $110!!!

I recently dined at Butcher Son in Virginia Beach and was thoroughly impressed by both the quality of the food and the overall dining experience. We arrived in time for the Early Bird Special, which runs from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM and offers exceptional value. Diners can choose from one of four expertly grilled entrées—6 oz. salmon, 8 oz. steak, chicken, or a 10 oz. pork chop—all served with two sides.
Before the main course arrived, we were served warm, freshly baked dinner rolls paired with a house-made garlic herb butter. This simple touch was unexpectedly one of the highlights of the evening—the rolls were soft and pillowy, and the butter was rich, savory, and perfectly seasoned. It was an ideal start to the meal and set the tone for what followed.
For my entrée, I chose the 6 oz. steak, cooked medium, along with a baked sweet potato and a Caesar salad (with a modest $1 upcharge). The steak was grilled to perfection—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The sweet potato was hearty and well-seasoned, and the Caesar salad was crisp, balanced, and refreshing.
The ambiance of Butcher Son is inviting and well-curated, striking a perfect balance between comfortable and upscale. The service was equally impressive—attentive without being intrusive.
To end the meal, we indulged in the chocolate lava cake, which we received complimentary with a local coupon. It’s a notoriously tricky dessert to get right, but Butcher Son nailed it: a perfectly molten center surrounded by moist, rich cake—absolutely decadent.
In summary, Butcher Son exceeded every expectation. From the welcoming rolls to the expertly grilled entrees and flawless dessert, it was a five-star experience from start to finish. Whether you’re a local or visiting Virginia Beach, this restaurant deserves a spot on your list.

Dan was our server this past week and not only did he give exceptionally great service but also recommended the perfect bottle of wine, 8 years in the desert .
Without a doubt will definitely be back and requesting Dan as our server.

Every dish we tried was packed with flavor and beautifully presented—clearly crafted with care and culinary skill. The ambiance was cozy yet refined, creating just the right backdrop for a memorable meal. While the prices are on the higher side, the overall experience more than justifies the cost. If you’re looking to treat yourself or celebrate something special, this place is absolutely worth it.
Our server Dan was amazing.. he was attentive, but did not make us feel rushed.

Excellent first impression. We were celebrating our son's graduation from nursing school. Our server Alexia was awesome and provided excellent recommendations, she also was so patient with our requests. I went with the Seafood Mac & Cheese on her recommendation and Dessert was the cookies and vanilla ice cream. Everything was delicious and prepared with a genuine care for the art of cooking. We will return and request Alexia.

What started out as an amazing dinner with my family, didn’t turn out so well in the end. My family and I came here yesterday for dinner around 8pm. The server was great. She made recommendations, told us about specials, and was very attentive to us throughout the entire dinner….up until the end.
She dropped off boxes and the bill. On the bill it clearly stated that you could pay with cash or card. If you paid with cash, the bill was slightly discounted. So we decided to pay with cash for the discounted rate. When she came back to our table, we told her we did not need any change and the rest of it was her tip. As soon as we were about to leave, she pulled aside my sister in law and asked if we thought she did not provide good service to us. She said our tip was slightly below what she was expecting to receive for her service. We, in fact, tipped her 20%. She then went back only to realize that she was mistaken and was looking at the card payment total rather than the cash payment total and forgot that it was a discounted rate. She came back to us and apologized and said that she had a long shift and hadn’t eaten.
I was a server for 8+ years so I’m fully aware of the disappointment it can be to give really good service only to receive less than 20% or even no tip sometimes! But never in my life would I ever go back to any table asking them why they did not leave me 20%. This interaction was really unprofessional. It’s even worse that she was completely wrong about the whole situation all because she mistakenly was looking at the wrong bill total.
This interaction truly left a bad taste in my mouth.. almost to the point I don’t think I’d want to return to this location at least. Not here to get anyone in trouble… just do better!
