We had another absolutely delicious meal with fabulous service from start to finish! Zoes is my favorite local restaurant for a special occasion.
Zoe's was a first-class experience! We came for Virginia Beach restaurant week. They go out of their way to elevate the experience with the fabulous food and service. We will be back!
I dined last night for Restaurant Week. This was not my first visit, so I came in with positive expectations. To start, the host was very friendly and welcoming, which set a nice tone initially. Unfortunately, the experience declined once the food arrived. I ordered the Oyster Rockefeller, which was prepared with collard greens and pimento cheese. The collard greens had a strong vinegar base that completely overpowered the dish—so much so that the oysters themselves tasted almost entirely of vinegar. I also ordered a Caesar salad, which was extremely small (it could easily fit in the palm of my hand) and had very little dressing. What dressing there was tasted noticeably sweet, which felt off for a traditional Caesar. For my main course, I chose the rockfish. The portion was again very small—more like a sample than an entrée—especially disappointing for a restaurant of this caliber and reputation. Service was also inconsistent. Our waiter overlooked our table several times. Thankfully, the staff works as a team, and other servers and food runners stepped in to assist, which I appreciated. Still, overall service felt inattentive. Between the underwhelming portion sizes, the flavor imbalance in the dishes, and the uneven service, the experience was disappointing. I've enjoyed this restaurant in the past, but this visit fell short in both food quality and service.
Zoës is the most distinctive dining experience you can have in Virginia Beach. From the Valet, to the Hostess, to our specific Waiter and other Servers, everyone was so welcoming and courteous from your arrival and throughout the service. The atmosphere is elegant yet cozy, traditional warm inviting ambiance that lets you know immediately you're in Zoës. The Ginger Chicken Potstickers and the Crispy Shitake & Herb Arancini (Italian Rice Balls) appetizers were delicious. Second course, we both enjoyed the Butternut Squash Soup. Absolutely delicious, though the soup was served luke warm. A minor complaint, but we would have preferred the soup warmer. For the entrées, I selected the Zoës Meatloaf. I know what you're thinking, meatloaf? Quite seriously the best meatloaf I have ever put in my mouth. The portions floated on a cloud of whipped potatoes and broccolini with onion crisps on top. Magnificent. My wife tried the special vegetarian selection not normally found on Zoës' regular menu, the Roasted Acorn Squash entrée. The squash flesh was spaghetti-like pasta with forbidden rice, caramelized onion, shiitake and oyster mushrooms, zucchini, toasted pumpkin seeds in a cashew tahini crema. My wife said the dish was full of flavor with the nuttiness of the rice and meaty earthy flavor of the mushrooms. Though not part of the Restaurant Week menu, we had to have that signature Zoës dessert, the OMG Carrot Cake. An olive oil cake that's dense, moist, finely ground with a not too sweet vanilla cream cheese icing. Only order a slice as it is big enough for two to share easily. Decadent and delicious carrot cake with some hot decaf coffee to finish. A well spent two-hour dinner date in an intimate refined restaurant. Well worth the price.
The staff at Zoes was phenomenal! From the moment you arrive in the parking lot you're greeted warmly by valet and coat check. The entire wait staff are very professional and still maintain a friendly and personable manner when interacting with guests. The food provided by the kitchen was some of the best food I've had in Virginia Beach. The potstickers were a perfectly balanced crisp and steam. The octopus in the cavatelli was the right bite size and perfect cook. The apple streusel crème brûlée was the only way to end the night! Highly recommend Zoes for all events!
We had early reservations and had a wonderful meal during Virginia Beach Restaurant Week. The food was fantastic, and the service was excellent. Regina, our server, was kind, energetic, and always on point. We were never left waiting or forgotten. The entire staff made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy a great meal. Oh, and don't forget the carrot cake! It was the best I've ever had, and I'm not even a carrot cake fan. Now I am.
Mark is always a great help- choosing wines, telling stories and knowing exactly what will pair best with your meal! We love the service and food
I had the best filet I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection, incredibly tender, and all around spectacular.
It’s been two months, and I am still thinking about the food. Zoës is not just a restaurant, it is an experience, one I will never forget. I pride myself on the restaurants I choose, especially for my birthday, and Zoës has truly taken the cake!
The food, the service, the chef, the sommelier, and the atmosphere were all top tier. The waitstaff doesn’t just make sure their assigned tables are okay, they check on you whether they are your waiter or not. The head chef is extremely talented and has a great sense of humor and personality. My mom and I thoroughly enjoyed our table right near the chef’s area.
I ordered the scallop & lobster trio with caviar, which I highly suggest if you want to go all out! My mom had the salmon with crispy skin, better than Hell’s Kitchen (sorry Gordon… I love you!)
To sum things up: I have very high standards, and I felt like a VIP on my birthday. The table setup, the attention from all the staff, everything was exceptional. You know a restaurant is legit when they have an actual baker in the kitchen who focuses on nothing but desserts! My three-tier carrot cake with homemade cream cheese icing was the most decadent dessert I’ve ever tasted.

Everything was amazing. We went to celebrate my birthday and everyone made it super special from the moment we walked in. Regina was fabulous and Alex was great. Jessica stoped by and couple of times to check. And everyone else that I didn’t get names for made it an evening to remember. We have decided this will be our special occasion spot. It would be more often but we just don’t live close enough.

Flawless date night at Zoe's! The food and booze were phenomenal and Judy's service was top notch. Bring your wallet, but it's all worth it.
Excellent food, dessert, cocktails and service! We had a wonderful experience all around. Julia at the bar was so attentive and helpful, offering advice on the menu and great conversation. We can’t wait to go back!

Hadn’t been to Zoe’s for a few years until last night. The food was spectacular and worth coming back for but Julia was the star of the show. Great recommendations and conversation. This is now on our regular rotation thanks to her ….. (and the rest of Zoe’s, of course)
