We stopped for the restaurant and oh me oh my it was amazing. The head chef changed the menu based on my fiancée’s vegetarian preferences, Nan’s the food was incredible! Service too. Setting was stunning! Plan to visit again
I am hesitant to share this amazing place because I want to keep it a hidden gem. Where to start—The food is extraordinary in the pub and restaurant, the rooms are cozy with all the needed amenities and the grounds are perfect for relaxing or exploring. I was there to write and found it to be exactly what I needed. I would be remiss in not mentioning the best part of the experience—the staff. I don’t know everyone’s name who I encountered, but from the front staff, the chef, the bartender, to Ebony (who took an amazing care of me) thank you, thank you! I will be back.
My wife and I have been going to Blue Rock for a few years; it’s one of her favorite places. This year I decided to surprise her for her birthday with a 2-night stay and dinner at the restaurant.
Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed with our experience for the following reasons.
We mentioned we were celebrating my wife’s birthday when we arrived for dinner. While we weren’t expecting anything special, we did notice that another table received a dessert with staff singing “Happy Birthday.” It was disappointing that the same hospitality wasn’t extended to us.
Later that evening, we asked if the fire pit could be lit while we enjoyed a nightcap. Unfortunately, it was never attended to.
After finishing brunch on Sunday, it took over 30 minutes for our check to be brought out. I eventually had to go inside and ask a staff member to close our tab.
On Monday morning, we requested breakfast be delivered to our room at 8:30 a.m. At 8:45 a.m., I had to go to the front desk to remind the staff.
We were told that $15 would be credited back to us since we opted for brunch instead of the included breakfast. However, this adjustment was not reflected on our final bill at checkout, even after we asked about it.
The food was artistic and delicious, which did not match the rest of our experience. We were charged a 22% service charge without being told; we almost added a tip on top of that. The music was horrible, a whiny, screaming kind of music, and since the place was empty, really noticeable. We were not offered bread at the beginning, really unusual for fine dining. Although the place was empty we were seated at a tiny 2-seater table despite a number of 4-seater tables being open, at which other couples later were seated. The windows fogged over from the air conditioning blocking the beautiful view of the pond and vineyard. We got the wine flight and the Riesling did not go at all with the second dish and the white wine served with the Haddock was really bad. She squirted it out of the bottle and it came out cloudy. When we left, the exit was dark. No lights at all to see the gravel driveway to get to our car. The gardens were full of weeds, some 1.5 feet high. Wonderful food experience with a complete lack of management oversight.
We had a spectacular dinner there last night. The setting is charming as is the decor in that's it's fresh and aesthetically pleasing. Dinner meals are prix fix, 5 course, with a choice for the main entree. Those in the kitchen are serious about what they're making and it shows. The ingredients are the best and are used to create unusual, delicious, artfully presented courses. We felt like we were on a little vacation and the next morning we both commented on how wonderful our dinner had been. I do want to give a special mention to the dessert course. It was Michelin 3 star. It was a privilege dining there and I look forward to returning soon as we live in the area and I want to taste and see what this creative team will be serving next.
Nice scenery!
We had the most amazing weekend at The Blue Rock Inn! The property is absolutely gorgeous—with stunning views of the mountains, beautiful vineyards, and pretty open land with horses. It was so peaceful and felt like a little slice of paradise.
Our room was so quaint, with a view over the land, and our door led directly outside to the roof of the building, offering even more stunning views. The backyard was such a great spot to hang out—filled with fire pits and perfect tables to relax, play games, and just enjoy being with friends and loved ones. The whole property felt thoughtfully designed for making memories.
One of our favorite parts was breakfast—delivered to our room every morning with a gorgeous spread. You could really see the thought and care put into it.
Wyatt and Keighley truly made us feel right at home the entire time. They were so welcoming and went out of their way to make our stay extra special. It honestly felt like we were staying with friends rather than at an inn!!!!
I can’t say enough about Chef Aaron’s food—it was incredible! Every meal was thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delicious. They just started serving brunch, and we were lucky enough to try some of their new dishes—the French toast was insane! The service was impeccable, and you could really feel the passion behind every dish.
The property itself is stunning, with so many thoughtful details and the perfect location close to wineries and The Inn at Little Washington. The wine selection was huge, the cocktail program was thoughtfully crafted, and the entire culinary experience was top-notch.
But honestly, it was the people who made the experience truly unforgettable. If you’re looking for a hidden gem that’s full of charm and the best hospitality, The Blue Rock Inn is it. I couldn’t recommend it more, and we can’t wait to go back!
Every course was incredible, as was the service!
Just got back from a stay at Blue Rock to celebrate a milestone wedding anniversary. It is a sort of small scale operation, with a quaint but sophisticated French country inn vibe. Every employee we encountered were extremely friendly and professional, but with a real warm, family type of approach. We stayed in the Thornton room for two nights and it was cozy, but the perfect size for our weekend stay. Plenty of storage, great balcony, well appointed and a very comfortable bed. A perfect little breakfast was brought to our room every morning too! The grounds are beautiful, but we didn’t explore them much as it was pretty cold during our stay.
The restaurant was amazing. The tasting menu is perfectly paced, with generous portions and amazing flavors. Chef Bin Lu has created an amazing environment, and having him personally come out and describe the wine pairings was a treat.
We had a lovely time at Blue Rock. Thanks for the hospitality!

Our party of 7 visited Blue Rock for dinner last weekend. We enjoyed an amazingly delicious meal from start to finish. Incredibly high quality ingredients that were very thoughtfully prepared. The folks in our party that opted for the wine pairings were deeply satisfied with their decision. The staff were welcoming and accommodating. We enjoyed the entire experience from start to finish and look forward to returning in the future.

Simply beautiful location, service, and food. And if you eat at the restaurant, get the wine pairing! The chef really figured out what excites the taste buds!
Food and drinks: Get the wine pairing, it's next level!

This might be a long post, but please read all of it as you need to know the full extent of how bad our trip was.
We were very excited about our trip as it was our 1st anniversary. We've traveled a TON and had really good experiences with inns and had heard that the chef was from Pineapple & Pearls, a DC favorite of ours and one that has 2 Michelin stars. So, we checked the reviews and decided to stay here. There were a few bad reviews, but nothing close to what we expected.
We get there and go up to the room. First off, when we tell someone that it's our Birthday/Anniversary/some event, we've generally gotten a bottle of wine, some chocolates, something. We got a note printed on a computer. While this isn't the end all be all, it's all about the experience. And in the end if this was it, we'd be ok.
The room was shorter than expected, while they have since put up a warning on their website (one that wasn't there when we booked), me being 6' tall couldn't raise my arms over my head. I'm guessing the height of the ceiling is about 6'4", and while the views of the estate are absolutely wonderful, the only view from that room is from the door to the outside, which was not a large opening (again, being a bigger guy my shoulders wouldn't allow me to go through this door and I had shuffle outside. While I withstood the limitations of the room, it's the next issue that I couldn't erase from my mind.
We had gotten a reservation to the restaurant and had a few minutes to wait till we got ready, my wife decided to get a drink and got a wine for her and a cider for me. It was at this point the bugs started showing up. We had both flies and gnats attack us at this point. While I expect flies and gnats attack us outside, inside, not so much. I had 3 bugs get into my drink to which I stopped drinking it and let the staff know about the bug infestation. We were told "since it's an older place, the bugs might come from the pipes so sorry there's nothing that can be done". And just to add to this, the staff saw the state of the room with the bugs. I actually managed to overhear the staff talk about this to the kitchen staff and I know a note was sent to the manager, as she indicated she saw the message the next day.
From here we went to dinner, if nothing else an "ok" experience. Both me and my wife were expecting a much more elevated dinner, but in the end it wasn't bad, just not memorable (and nowhere near the cost).
We went back to the bug infested room and tried to peacefully sleep. I have video that cannot be uploaded due to Google's limit, but this is the view when I woke up, 11 gnats on my lamp with much more around the room. At this point I spoke with the manager and she assured me that she did a room check before we checked in and that she'd check again with the cleaning staff to see what they could do when we went out for our lunch that day. She also mentioned that we would be comped due to the bugs. No mention of changing rooms, no mention of how much we would be comped, keep this in mind.
We came back that night (trying to stay away since it was bug ridden) and when we came back, we can at least say it was "better". My wife and I killed no less than 10 bugs (flies and gnats) that night "after they cleaned" and we also noticed that the sheets were not changed (again, after we asked them to do so as we noticed a stain on them due to killing a bug on them). We went to sleep and when checking out were told we were comped 10% of one night. We were floored but so tired we just wanted to leave.
I want to talk with the owner as this is the worst Inn I've ever been at. I'd rather stay at a $50 a night hotel than stay here even if the views are gorgeous. And as my wife put it, if you're paying these rates,

Stayed here for 2 nights on a solo trip. I was pretty unfamiliar with the area but the HUGE benefit it's proximity to Shenandoah Park - less than 15 min to the entrance and skyline drive.
I arrived Wed, left Fri. Heads up that the Inn doesn't offer any food or services on Wed and lots of local restaurants are also closed mon-wed.
Stayed in Room 3 and it was terrific. Small, yes, but nice little view, well decorated and comfortable bed. It was more quiet than I was expecting but heads up you can hear folks downstairs if they're talking right near the staircase.
Breakfast was lovely.
I didn't actually get at the bar or the restaurant.
There are some very cute public rooms like the lobby and the library and really even the bar.
It's a perfect place for a weekend stay - both luxurious and quaint but it does have little amenities so not sure I'd stay longer than 2ish nights.
The staff are excellent and very friendly. Thanks!

Fabulous. Each course was perfect. Michelin star quality food in a comfortable ambiance. We’ll definitely be back!
I want to preference this review by saying that the service here was absolutely wonderful. Our waiter and the woman who kept coming to fill our water glasses at dinner were excellent. Where this dinner falls short is the food. As individuals who go out to dinner pretty often, we thought dining at a place with a 4.7 dating we would be blown away, unfortunately it left much to be desired. The bites were small, and the third course option which was wild rice mixed with peas with trout eggs on top was oversalted with minimal flavor. If we had not ordered the bread course, we would have left hungry. The salmon and steak were both dry. I think the biggest disappointment was that every course we had was either luke warm or not hot at all. I basically ate cold salmon, which was not sure if our food had been sitting out before served for a while. The dinner also took over 3 hours. For the price point, we would not go back seeing as the ingredients used did not justify the price point for the dinner we received.
