Meh. My burger was very nice. My spouse's Croque Madame wasn't. The bottom piece of bread was so soggy she could eat it with a spoon. We were candid about this without making any demands, they did nothing about it. Maybe I'm being difficult, but if you're going to fly a French flag from your restaurant and play stereotypical French accordion music in the rest room, I think you need to *nail* was is essentially a fancy grilled cheese.
We were headed home from Charlottesville and wanted to break up the four hour drive by stopping at the Inn at Little Washington as a possible future destination only to learn that that hotel is closed on Tuesdays. Lo and behold, this cafe and bakery was across the street. We both decided this would be a good place for lunch and we were not disappointed. I had a butternut squash soup which was full of flavor and a BLT with avocado...delicious. With comfortable weather, we ate outside under an umbrella Service was outstanding.
The service was top notch! My wife and I stopped in yesterday on our way back to the city, and the bakery is the perfect place for someone just stopping through looking for a beverage and a sweet noshing!
We had a wonderful experience at Patty O's Cafe on a Saturday in late summer. We drove to Washington, VA, to have lunch here. We were not disappointed. There was a good selection of entrees, and we decided on pulled pork, which was sweet and smooth and the best my husband has tasted. Also, the curried chicken salad was good. As our side we decided on fries and they were cook perfectly, which we could have taken them home. The iced tea was served with simple syrup, which is nice and very southern. The bread was baked in their attached bakery. One type of bread was sour dough, which tasted very similar to San Francisco sour dough bread. The bathroom was very clean and smelled nice. The only negative was the tables were a bit close to each other.
The younger sibling to the Inn at Little Washington. Food is as good, but not as elaborate, and much more affordable. We were delighted with the cocktails, wine, menu, food and the check! We would return anytime we were in the area or would make the hour trip from home. Patty O's also continues the fun that is a hallmark of the Inn at Little Washington, but no Dara.
We flew in from San Diego to VA to have dinner at the Inn of Little Washington. Our dinner reservations were not until 8 pm, so we walked over to Patty O's cafe for just a little snack. We ordered deviled eggs. Relatively simple. We were there almost 40 minutes, asked for them twice, and they never appeared. The young "I am new here" waiter could have cared less that we left hungry and unhappy. Not the best start to my husband's 60th birthday celebration. Hopefully the star of the show- the Inn of Little W, will be better.
I was there for lunch on a very warm Saturday sitting outside on the patio. I ordered the BLAT and Grandma’s potato salad. The potato salad is great, just what I had been craving, but it was warm and a little crusty from sitting out. I flagged the waiter and asked for a cold serving, saying I didn’t think it was safe to eat at that temperature. The next serving was exactly the same. The waiter never inquired as to why I still didn’t eat it. Perhaps it didn’t have any mayonnaise or other ingredient that doesn’t spoil, but if that’s the case, he didn’t explain that either. The sandwich was great and their special soup, a chilled tomato, was excellent. They overcharged us for ice teas but when we mentioned that they immediately removed it from the bill. This was my third time at the cafe and I’ll go again, but I was surprised at the bad experience.

So excited to find this new gem in Little Washington. The brunch was outstanding, and the wait was very reasonable. The food, while not quite as fancy (or pricey) as the food at the Inn at Little Washington, was every bit as delicious, and the atmosphere is fun and laid back without being too casual. The attached bakery is a nice complement to the cafe. This is too far from our home to be "local" for us, but it might be worth a drive to come back.
I stopped into Patty O’s while I was in the area for business. We stayed at the Inn and did the full meal there in March 2023, so I knew what a special place this could be. I was greeted upon arrival by the manager who showed me to a table and got my water which is served in these cute cowboy boot pitchers and have a bandana on them. The lead server came and took my order and suggested the Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado, Tomato sandwich as I was between that and the burger. The sandwich was amazing and they left nothing to chance. The bacon was some of the best bacon I’ve had and the avocado was at the perfect ripeness. The bread had to be griddled with butter as it just melted in my mouth. If you can’t get to the Inn for a meal, you need to check this place out. I live 4.5 hours from the Inn and I’m already thinking of how I am going to get back here! Also check out the bakery next door for some treats to go and don’t miss the croissants. They are amazing and better than anything I had in Lyon France.
Our friends had been here a few days earlier and raved about the place and couldn't wait to bring us here. Unfortunately, our overall experience was not the best. We aren't sure why. It could have been because was July 3rd or just an off day for everyone, but we were all underwhelmed with both the food and the service. We didn't have any starters and we ordered the mussels and fries, the soft shelled crab, the $21 burger that was terribly undercooked (it was rare when it was ordered medium) and a Greek salad. The food was just OK, nothing special except for the burger which was just bad. The fries were undercooked and limp. The service was OK but not overly attentive since we sat with empty water glasses for some time and finally had to ask for more water. When the bill was presented, they told us that they had added a 20% gratuity. They should have told us that prior to ordering. We assume they did this in order to retain staff, but unfortunately, it doesn't incentivize them to be as attentive as they might be otherwise. It wasn't a terrible experience overall just disappointing given the hype.
For a Monday lunch, they were serving a full restaurant inside and outside on a constant basis. It was clearly popular. I sat inside and took in the decor. It's a blend of country casual and elegant chic. From red checked shirts to pewter cowboy boot water pitchers (embellished with a red bandana and for sale to guests!) everything works to compliment the large country western dance mural displayed at the bar. I noticed the efforts made to give five star service even though it is a much more casual menu. I enjoyed the deviled eggs and reuban sandwich with pomme frites. It was explained to me that because they are a sister restaurant to the highly rated inn across the street, a 20% gratuity is included as a service charge when you are presented with your check. I didn't have room for dessert but made a visit to the bakery after wandering the shops to take a chocolate ginger cookie and caramel ganache with me for later. I look forward to returning one day. My visit paired well with the video I had watched on Amazon. It is an impressive success story!
We just had lunch here today, and it was DELICIOUS! Our server, Kim Sealock, was amazing! The food was fresh, tasty, beautifully presented, and well-worth the money. Best butter pecan ice cream my husband has ever had. The burger, ham sandwich, fries, potato salad, and bittersweet chocolate mousse were delightful. We will return!
