Is predictability or innovation the thing that urges one to return. Eaten at Fat Canary many times. The food is always superbly cooked, well presented by informed, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Maybe just a touch too fast as my cocktail was only a minute before the appetizer arrived. Tuna tempura achieved almost the impossible - crispy, hot breading with a perfectly untouched tuna in the middle. I don't know how they did it ! The mains of fish and duck were perfectly cooked to order. Too often duck comes in overdone. It was rare per my request. The faro was unusual in that it had enormous flavor of duck and a good nutty chewy texture along with unlooked for satisfaction with celery root. Dessert, almost one road too far, as one was plenty for 2 but we knew that in advance. Yes ,the menu has changed only slightly since we were there last, but the small surprises were there. Unquestionably among the top 3 restaurants in town.

We chose Fat Canary to celebrate our anniversary, and it could not have been a more perfect experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff made the evening feel special. They surprised us with a customized anniversary menu—our names printed at the top—which was such a thoughtful touch and immediately set the tone for the night. The food was exceptional. Every course felt intentional and beautifully prepared, from the starters to the dessert we ended the night with. The flavors were rich, balanced, and clearly crafted with care. The wine pairing recommendations were spot-on and really elevated the meal. What stood out just as much as the food was the service. Our server was warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our evening memorable without ever being intrusive. The atmosphere—cozy, elegant, and intimate—made it easy to slow down and enjoy the night together. We returned after four years. My friend ordered the pork chop that she remembered as the best pork chop she had ever eaten. Unfortunately, she was disappointed as it was chewy on this last visit. The service, however, is absolutely phenomenal.

Wonderful food. Layers upon on layers of unique flavor combinations make up a unique dining experience. Fat Canary turns a basic dish like chicken into art.

Impeccable service from the moment we arrived. Delicious and incentive dishes from app to dessert. We loved every minute, and from our travels eating at some wonderful places, this was a top 10 dining experience!

Ambiance is so lovely, service is excellent, and food is impressive! Before my husband and I traveled to Williamsburg, Virginia, we searched for a restaurant to have dinner date on our 2nd night - and Fat Canary did not disappoint! Making a reservation ahead of time is a must!

Grabbed two sammies from the Cheese shop (tuna salad and roast beef) to enjoy out in the public square out front. Both were delicious - my husband was super pleased with his roast beef, super tender and perfectly cooked. We both loved the bread - tasty and light as a feather!

The food was amazing. We sat for a few minutes with no dinner utensils. A little loud but we'll be back for sure!

The staff is always pleasant polite and professional. They work beautifully as a team. The experience is sublime.

A fantastic experience throughout, which we've found to be the case upon every visit to Fat Canary. Warm, hospitable greeting, friendly and attentive service, wonderful craft cocktails, amazing menu of options (we went with the rabbit, pork belly burrata, pork chop & apples, braised chicken and veg, and trio of sorbets with dessert wine flight!), and an affordable, well-crafted wine list. Fat Canary was awesome. The food and drinks were exquisite. Staff was friendly and made great wine pairings. The special was fantastic as well as the pork chop. Will definitely be back.

Fat Canary is our favorite, and probably the best, restaurant in Williamsburg. It's not a large restaurant so reservations go fast. We were able to get a 7:45 on a Wednesday. Our table was ready when we arrived. All of the food from the bread to dessert was outstanding. We particularly enjoyed the halibut special and chocolate pyramid. Service was excellent. Prices are expensive but consistent with the quality of food provided. We'll be back!
