Lemonaid was extremely watered down, waiter only checked on us once, tons of flies and spiders all over
The picnic food was delicious with perfect portions for two. This meal was a delight for our 4th of July celebration!
Incredible Mother's Day brunch for my amazing wife. Food was just what we were looking for.
The food was excellent! Great variety and very flavorful! Staff and service were top notch! Taylor was exceptional when I had to leave early making sure I was well taken care of. VERY, very happy with everything!
Fish was over cooked and dry. Lamb was very gamey and overcooked and chicken was braised so long the bones were dissolving into the meat so you got shards of bone through the chicken.
We took a visiting friend to the Easter brunch and had a delightful time. The ambience is terrific and the staff take great pains to enhance the entire experience by sharing historical tidbits about the facility and colonial taverns. We had a flute player entertain us. We were all pleasantly surprised by the scope of the meal and the excellent quality, as we really thought it would be a decent meal in a special venue. The meal was superb! Leg of lamb perfectly prepared and huge portions that three of us couldn't finish. Chicken fricassee. Perfectly roasted root vegetables. The soup starter (carrot and apple bisque) was savory and enjoyable. Not flavors we experience everyday. The desert course included rhubarb crumble and a pudding with lavender cookies. We will definitely be on the lookout for other opportunities to enjoy Shields' tavern.
We treated ourselves to a nice holiday brunch rather than cooking up a bunch of food being anchored in the kitchen all day. We weren't disappointed! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was wonderful! Looking forward to the next holiday! Thank you!
Fantastic family style dining. The ambience was authetic, the music engaging and the entire visit wonderful. Highly recommend even if they don't serve alcohol.
The food was delicious, the service superb, and the atmosphere delightful. This was a pre-set three course meal and I knew that going in, but if you do not like that, you may want to check what is being served the evening you are there. We went for a New Year's Day dinner and it was PERFECT!
Plenty of greens in the family-style salad. My husband and I wondered if we would be able to eat it all. We ate 3/4th of it. The fried chicken had great flavor and the beef was tender. The veggies were cooked just right. The texture was medium - not raw and not overcooked- just right. The strawberry cream dessert was light and refreshing. We were very satisfied.

Menu on web site a little confusing. Thought stake or chicken were options; but they were a combo entree. Salad was exceptional as was the flavored hot tea. Steak was definitely a different presentation but good as was the pan fried chicken. All portions required a boxed leftover treat(s). Desert was also very good. Server was excellent. Great bucket list experience.
Justin, our server, was an excellent waiter. The food was delicious -- from the salad to dessert... NOTHING was terrible. We appreciated the anniversary card from the tavern, too. Thank you, Shields!
It has been a few years — pre-Covid, in fact — since we have been back to CW and its restaurants, so it was nice to begin our visit back with Shields Tavern. It has changed its dining approach and menus from ala carte, but still has the same look, ambience and service. It makes you feel like you are back in the late 1700s with outfits, terminology, menu items, and candle lighting throughout. We noticed several people having issues with the menu in other reviews, but if you read the web site or check out the online menu you should not be surprised with a set-price, set-menu dining experience. Sure, having the option for alcoholic beverages with a tavern meal might be ideal, sometimes you can't control everything. It should not ruin your night, your meal, your experience or your review. Our very able and helpful waiter, Cameron, went over the evening meal menu, describing the courses and everything. It followed just that: soft baked bread with an herb butter; a wonderful mixed greens salad with white cheddar cheese, candied walnuts and apple slices and two delightful dressings; the main course with perfectly fried chicken and/or a unique beef item with a bread based stuffing and a brown Demi glaze gravy, mashed potatoes and mixed veggies; and ending with a strawberry parfait featuring a cinnamon beignet. The portions were plenty and items cooked well — a tasty and filling meal. I always want more bread than most places give, and should have asked for more, and we both wish we had a small plate to put the beignet on so it could be dunked or slathered with the parfait. Otherwise no complaints. The price for two was in line with what you pay at the other CW themed restaurants, and Cameron made it a wonder pre-concert experience. Perhaps they will change the menus options from time to time for returning diners, but nevertheless we will be back and do recommend visiting Shields Tavern.
Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. Ambience was excellent. Food was delicious. 5 stars!*****
Party of 8 with kids, and we appreciated they allowed us to get seated before our reservation time.
