Rude cashier on 2.20.26. I was in line, 2 other African American ladies were in front. The rude cashier thought we were together. I told her she should have said, "I can help the next customer" instead of ASS-UMING I was with the other ladies. She became combative after my comment. I departed the restaurant & purchased delicious food from Mellow Mushroom & had a delightful customer service experience!!

I visited with my wife last week. She ordered the roast beef sandwich on sourdough, with chedder, tomatoes and mustard and I ordered the Combo (counry ham & turkey) on french with cheder and mustard. Waited for the sandwiches, paid and departed. Drove away and found a place to eat on a warm winter day. My wife's sandwich was perfect and overstuffed with roast beef. My sandwich was made with sourdough (not French) , no mustard and with barely enough ham and turkey to cover the bread. I did not feel like driving back and waiting for a new sandwich.
They ruined our lunch date.
It's a sandwich folks, not to hard to follow the instructions and make a correct sandwich. Check out the pictures with the order form. Between the lady who took the order and the sandwich maker we are 0 for 2 in getting g the job done.
All I can say is unwrap your order and check the sandwiches before you leave. I won't be back.
Ruined our lunch date.

I have enjoyed cheese shop sandwiches since 1978 when I was at William and Mary.. it was my Friday lunch treat to take back sandwiches for the sorority house. Once I graduated and moved away it was a “must” when we would come to visit. Now we have moved back here and have them with guests who come to visit. Just recently over the Xmas holiday we noticed the bread has been switched out. No more “bread ends” and the bread was tough.. I sure hope it was a temporary issue?

Went here earlier for sandwiches which were okay, especially the bologna and cheese special. Went back later for a quick drink at the almost empty wine cellar bar and was told that we could not be seated (even at the bar) because people had reservations in the next 5-10 min. This pic is 5-10 minutes later. Does old English aristocracy live beyond the the perimeter of Colonial Williamsburg?! Tisk, tisk!

I am local and tried to go to the cheese shop today, January 7, but they were closed for inventory. This is my only my feelings, but inventory should be done at night where you not take away from business and they are closed on Thursday. Other than that, the food is great when you can get it.

We love The Cheese Shop. But super sad you guys changed the French bread. Please bring back the normal French bread.

We love this place and their sandwiches and beer and wine selection.
Four stars because of this one complaint: please stock regular bottle spring water, not that stupid liquid death. I will never buy something named that.

Delicious sandwiches and a variety of beverages, snacks and goodies.

I am leaving a review to share a very disappointing experience I had during my recent visit to your shop. It was my first time there, and unfortunately the way the situation was handled left me embarrassed, upset, and questioning how customers are treated.

Because it was my first visit, I did not fully understand the ordering and payment process. I ordered sandwiches, then grabbed chips and drinks with my children while we waited, and paid for them before finding a table outside. When our sandwiches were called, I took them from the counter and had my children carry them to our table while I went to the cheese and wine counter to order two glasses of wine for my husband and myself. I brought the sandwich tickets with me to hand to the attendant.

At the wine counter, after I showed my ticket and ordered the wine, I was asked to produce the sandwiches. I explained that my children had just taken them to our table. At that point, instead of calmly clarifying the process, the staff member raised concerns in front of a crowded counter during the weekend lunch rush. I was publicly questioned, directed to signage, and then escorted to our table. Once there, she further insinuated that I may not have paid for the chips and drinks already sitting on the table, which I absolutely had.

This entire interaction was extremely uncomfortable and humiliating, especially as it took place in front of other customers. The tone and approach made me feel as though I was being treated like a shoplifter rather than a first-time customer who was simply unfamiliar with your system.

I left the experience in tears, with a very poor impression of your establishment. I am sharing this not to be confrontational, but because I truly believe no customer should be made to feel this way. I also feel compelled to ask whether this level of suspicion and public scrutiny is common practice, or if there were other factors at play, as the experience was deeply unsettling.

I hope you take this feedback seriously and consider how situations like this can be handled with more clarity, discretion, and respect in the future.

I purchased a Grandma’s Coffee Cake from here 2 days ago (Sunday) , Dec 14. Brought it back to hotel excited to dive in only to see it had expired 3 weeks ago, Nov 25. Planned to take it back the next day but they were closed. Had to leave for Norfolk prior to opening on Tuesday to catch a flight. To say we are disappointed is an understatement. Other than that it’s a lovely shop.

Bring back the French bread!! What they are calling “French bread” is nothing more than grocery store bought sliced bread. Very disappointing. Have been coming here for 40 + years. Will not be back.

We have been enjoying the Cheese Shop for over 35 years. Each year we celebrate our anniversary by way of a trip to Williamsburg. To say that we have binged on their sandwiches each day of our stays over the years is an understatement.

However, they recently changed their signature French bread. It’s a drastic change from prior product. While the ingredients were still fresh and delicious, drastic of a change, really disappointed the experience for us.

Please please please bring back something more King to what had been in place for over three decades

The daily special sandwich was incredible with a glass of pinot noir. What an excellent treat!

One of my very favorite places!! A roast beef sandwich with havarti greens and house dressing was amazing and it is such an interesting place for gourmet food items. TmBought two sandwiches for tomorrow as one day of cheese shop sandwiches is never enough!
