Diners Beware!! Bad service, bad food.

We went to the Hound’s Tale a couple months ago and had some of the best food and service Williamsburg could offer. When we saw they had a new location, we were excited to try out the new spot. To celebrate my girlfriend’s new job, we decided to celebrate by going to the Hound’s Tale tonight. We entered the restaurant at 8:30, closing time on Google says 10pm, so we felt like we had plenty of time for a good meal. We could not believe how cool the inside looked. So very open with plenty of knick knacks and chic decor. Lots of potential!

Unfortunately, that’s where the good ends. After walking in, there was no host(ess) to greet/seat and there was nothing obvious saying we should seat ourselves. After standing around like fools for a couple minutes, a hostess came by and sat us at the high stools. The restaurant wasn’t busy, but a couple other families were there eating as well. It was probably 10min before a server came to take our drink order. We got our drinks and placed our dinner order. Dinner took a little while to cook, but we weren’t in a rush. When we received our food, things looked good, but our server seemed very uninterested and unattentative. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala, I had mediocre expectations since they are more of a pub food spot, but since I had the Fish and Chips my last time there (which were amazing) I figured I’d try something new. The rice was almost raw! Al dente rice? Not good. And the chicken was very gristly and a bit slimy. The naan was hard. I quickly lost my appetite. My girlfriend had the Stuffed Chicken Breast, the chicken was dry and overcooked and she only got one sundried tomato. Disappointing. My cousin had the Fish and Chips. The fish was overbreaded and the fries salty and floppy. Our server never came to ask us how our food was (probably a good thing bc it was awful) and I had to ask for refills. We got refills 5min after asking. Then we got our checks and left. I definitely tipped more than they deserved.

Overall, a very disappointing experience compared to the last time. I do not know what changed, maybe the cook? Management? Employees? Do better.

We will not be back.

Husband & I went Valentines night. We got seated immediately. The waitress came over & brought menus & said she would bring water & popcorn. She came to take our order with no water or popcorn delivered. She then went & took 2 more orders from people that came in behind us without turning our order in first. She came back & brought water & popcorn to the other two tables & we still hadn't received anything. After another 20 min we got crab dip we ordered along with popcorn & no water. We waited 45 min & still hadn't received our order. One of the other couples that came in behind us received their food first. I had to stop the waitress & ask her what was taking so long. She came back with our food that was partially burnt. The fries were so salty we couldn't eat much of them. The service was awful & so was the food. One of the other couples complained as well that their food was awful as well after waiting over 45 min. Will not be going back!

Says clearly on Google that they’re open till 10, got here at 8:55, find the door is locked with the closed sign on the door. Drove 45 minutes to meet a lady friend here, needless to say I was extremely unhappy. Was told by the nice lady that came to the front that Google maps had not updated that they closed early on the weekdays. Seems extremely unprofessional to me, to have the wrong closing time posted publicly, it’s as if they have no respect for people and their time. Not that hard to keep the hours current, so sorely disappointed…

We made a reservation for four at 5:30 for a booth or table near the wall. ( when making the reservation we specifically asked not to be seated in the middle of the room)
We arrived at 5:25 and were to a taken a table in the middle of the room. There was a booth available so we asked for that booth. The rep took us to that table and then a server said we could not sit there because the server had too many tables. (Almost every table was full).
So the rep took us to a table in the opposite corner but that table did not have enough chairs so we waited for them to find extra chair.
A few minutes after we were seated, a party of four was seated at the booth we requested. They were served drinks immediately.
We waited 10 minutes before receiving water.
Our server brought popcorn four times.
We ordered drinks - received drinks at 6:05- 35 minutes after being seated.
The party in the booth ordered their second round of drinks as we placed our food orders.
At 6:30 we asked for more popcorn ( did not receive it) as the party in the booth received their food orders.
We ordered more drinks.- two drinks arrived 15 minutes later at 6:45. The third drink did not arrive.
At 7:03 we spoke with the manager Adam who was very passive and unresponsive as expressed our complete dismay! Adam said they were busy and, very politely, I said “ yes you are but we made a reservation, we’ve been moved around the restaurant, we were not seated at the booth we reserved and then again requested and we were not served for an hour and a half! “
This is unacceptable in any restaurant.
Our food arrived at 7:05.
Adam offered a free dessert but our server said they were out of three of the desserts listed.
We then asked for Irish coffees but he said they could not offer those.
He subtracted about $12.00 from our bill.

The food was what would be expected in a tourist restaurant serving large numbers of people not a high quality restaurant. The French fries were limp and soggy and the meatloaf was substandard - quantity over quality. The steak was ok.
We had very high hopes for the success of this local restaurant in their new location in New Town and planned to be regulars .
The decor and artwork is very special and creates a nice atmosphere.

After the discount and before the tip, our bill was $160.00
Very sadly, after this experience, we are not inclined to return.

Not worth the visit. Overpriced pub food masquerading as fine dining. The food is under seasoned, poorly cooked, and in no way justifies the menu price. If you're seeing this, this is your sign to try any place else.

We went in here tonight. It was just terrible. For multiple reasons. First, the drinks were not made well at all. The sazerac was not anything like a true sazerac, it was not sweet, and it was incredibly bitter. So, no sugar and overload on the bitters. Then we tried the Korean short rib. It came out late from the rest of our food, and when we finally got the dish, it was so rare it literally turned our entire table off of their food. Overall, this was an awful experience. We will not be coming back and I do not recommend them.

The steak Gorgonzola was basically a soup. No flavor and no substance. The noodles(pasta) are basically plated in a ramen type broth and then they throw everything on top. The way the menu described the dish, the “Gorgonzola” was supposed to be melted or something. My dish just came with the blue cheese crumbles thrown on top. Ate a couple of noodles basically plain since they were sitting in a soup, ate the thin pieces of steak thrown on top of the dish and called it a day. This place has so much potential but seems to be clearly lacking in the back of the house. Server and atmosphere were great

If I could give it 0 I would. Waitress basically ignored us. Steak gorgonzola is flavorless. Boiled not sauteed vegetables and meat. Salad is literally a handful of greens and 4 small tomatoes. Mashed potatoes are made ahead and not even warmed up. Tourist Trap.

The food at The Hound’s Tale is, well, for the dogs. The steak gorgonzola was overcooked and lacked either taste or seasoning. Service was fair. Drinks, well, just OK.

We made reservations for a group of 10 for dinner. We arrived and were promptly seated. Seems like a very cool place , good dog themed vibe. That is where it fell apart. We all ordered drinks.. after the drink order was put in we were ready to order our dinners. We all ordered dinners. After the dinner order was placed, we also asked for Waters for everybody since our drinks still haven't arrived (it had been about 15 minutes). Another 15 minutes went by, still no drinks, and some of the food started coming out. With several of the dinners the sides (Fries potatoes, etc were cold). The duck was way overcooked and was sent back. The rest was average. We finally received our drinks after the dinners had arrived, after the drinks were distributed, we finally got our Waters....The entire group was unimpressed with the food... Because of our large group, 20% was added to the tab for service... We did not receive 20% level service.
