Update hours of operation please
Please update with google with a phone number and/or operation date and times. I drove 1 hour from Middlebury for nothing. Waste of time!
Great food, easily the best Southern food I've had in VT. Looking forward to coming back and trying the rest of the menu. Fried chicken and cornbread were perfection.
This is the type of place that I am excited to work my way through the entire menu. Amazing food and excellent service. The Old North End is becoming a mecca of culinary arts.
I frequently experience such frustration in Vermont as a black person because the lack of food that is culturally appropriate. I’m from Philly and my grandmother used to cook for me all the time and she would make Soulfood. When I tasted the collard greens by I broke down in tears, this tastes like every family barbecue I ever been to, every family trip, every stop we made in Virginia. I am overcome with emotion and I’m so happy to say that Barbara jeans is one of the best food establishments I’ve had yet to try here in Vermont. Don’t even think about it, Blow some bread here!
Food was delicious!
I’m from Kentucky, and admittedly skeptical of any*southern* style food in New England. This skepticism was quickly resolved after the first bite! We had the fried green tomatoes, yams, mac and cheese, and fried chicken. Everything was amazing! Chef Marc Antony was incredibly kind and welcoming, as was the person waiting on us. I can’t say enough about this place! One of my favorite dining experiences in all of Burlington.
Food was fantastic! Just back from 4 weeks in the south, and the fried green tomatoes and collared greens were better here than any other I had. Fried chicken and Mac and cheese were also fantastic. Staff was also very attentive. I was very impressed.
The black eyed peas and fried okra took me straight back to Louisiana. The fried green tomatoes took me straight back to Mississippi. The fried fish made me hear my Dad's voice in my memories. THANK YOU! Your food makes being so far away from home more bearable. Special thanks to your grandmother, Mrs Barbara Jean!

Delicious southern food! So worth it, so much flavor, no better fried chicken in the greater Burlington area!
Finally Burlington has a real southern restaurant! Highly recommend.
Four of us attended the soft opening and seven of us returned for a second visit. Although they are still ironing out service and ordering wrinkles (why we gave four stars instead of 5), the food is truly delicious! We have tried practically every thing on the menu - the catfish, fried chicken, gumbo, shrimp and grits, Mac n cheese, collard greens, black-eyed peas, candied yams, banana pudding (which comes in a mason jar) and the fried green tomatoes! Being from the South, we will be returning “home” every chance we get!
The food here is amazing! Hands down the best fried shrimp and fried chicken I've ever had. If you're looking for authentic southern food this is the place to go!
Phenomenal, truly authentic, high-end southern food. Recently attended the soft opening, and was SO impressed. I used to live in the South, and Barbara Jean's is as good as the food at the best restaurants in Charleston, SC or Atlanta. Can't wait to go back!!
