Alert: there will be a healthy dash of food snobbery in this review :)While the bakery is perfectly better-than-decent (and the location and inside atmosphere great), I was left with the feeling that it could have done much to up their game. Possibly this is mainly considering that it is considered a French styled bakery and one's expectations might be unrealistically inflated. While the offerings (sandwiches, quiches, pastries, cookies, breads, etc) are perfectly fine, they seem very much entrenched in American bakery mode more than French-style. By that I mean that the cookies are thick and heavy and chewey, more for college boys and lumberjacks than anything flaky, light and delicate that would grace any 'rue' in Frnace :)The sandwhich bread similarly feels thick and doughy like more typical American fare than anything thinner and something that won't be visible around the midriff the next day. And the sandwiches are fine but for their price and size feel like even just one added creative ingredient would elevate them from the everyday/everywhere category to something with some more style and uniqueness and semblence of pseudo-French (red wine jelly, dijon mustard, lavender mustard, truffle aioli, red onion jelly, a French cheese...).Belleville leaves the impression of aiming to cater to everyone without alienating anyone by seeming too fancy (like Chef's Corner might to some, but even there it's not exactly French-style). And in doing so relegates itself in some middlezone that's fine but leaving a feeling of, oh it could be so much more! That said, no single review should ever be assumed to encompass the entirety of a place, and their menu changes constantly, so on any given day the experience might differ.

Delicious items. We tried baby carrot cake. AMAZING. Several cookies which were also yummy. And then a raspberry something. That might have been the best. Owner was very friendly. A definite stop for anyone in Church Street area of Burlington.

The owner was so sweet helping me pick out a pastry, I told her I was picky and she immediately gave me suggestions. She gave detailed explanations on what was in things so I would be confident that I would like my dessert. I got a sweet brioche bun with raspberry compote (not jam!) and a pastry cream/whipped cream mixed filling. I am not exaggerating when I say it literally brought me to tears, it was the best dessert I have ever eaten. I went back today to get another dessert, and the owner was so sweet again and so excited that I had liked it. The entire experience is so worth it, amazing customer service and indescribable desserts.

The sandwiches and pastries are outstanding but not as outstanding as the owner. Sweetest little bakery that I have been to in Burlington. The chocolate coffee bread was so delicious and the pastrami-provolone was refreshing. 10/10 experience.

My wife and I stopped in here while traveling for lunch. I had the best chicken pot pie and my wife’s sandwich was delicious. The cookies were amazing as well. Would highly

The food was amazing! You can't go wrong with a sandwich and a dessert they are all delicious . The owner is a very welcoming person, love her explanations on the desserts and the bakery is very cute. Family atmosphere, with children, young people and elder people. All ages mixed in a beautiful place, with extraordinary desserts. Really the French style.

The food I tried tasted okay. But weird flex bragging about new staff scrubbing the floor on their hands and knees.

Passport 2 the finer things

This is a prime example of how you SHOULD NOT run a buisness! Something with a simple concept of baked goods and cafe items should have a calm, airy, stress free enviro... not the case here.. belittling your employees, talking above your customers as if you grace there presence with some unknown royal title is obsurd! Your responses on these reviews shows the condescending and sarcastic personality you permeate those within your twisted little bakery. WAKE UP ITS A BAKERY! Get off your high horse and humble yourself.

I think this place LOOKS really nice and clean and it definitely wants to give the impression that it’s elite or top shelf and that’s definitely the impression I got from the owner. I didn’t like how she spoke to her employees. Her employees looked miserable and it didn’t feel like the happiest place to work in. I think the pastries were good but not the best in town. I would rather go to a place where it feels lighter and warmer. That will reflect on the food. I didn’t like the elitist energy I felt.

I'm gonna give it 5 stars because it has an awesome name. ?
