Came here for a calm dinner and got exactly what I wanted. Molly slayed and I left satisfied

We came here after arriving in town - had seen online that they had a Maine Lobster roll and this spot was open when others had already closed, plus was right next to our hotel and had such cute waterfront vibes.

Unfortunately, the food was very okay. The escargots were delicious, the lobster bisque was delicious, but the claw chowder was underrated and not super flavorful. Same with the lobster roll - bic chunks of claw but really really bland. Such an odd thing when lobster is normally so flavorful. Really loved the vibe inside but feels like a tourist spot that isn't actually that great.

We came for just a couple of cocktails and to enjoy a nice summer afternoon. We were rushed to figure out if we wanted more than just drinks even though there was ample seating. We ordered the calamari (with banana peppers, balsamic vinegar and marinara… odd combo but that’s a different story) which came out quickly and was tender. However, they were drenched in grease which is provably how they got them out so quickly. We were rushed through the whole experience. Not sure if it’s because we were younger than the rest of the patrons but again we were not taking up any room or holding the table just for drinks. Sad experience overall.

Nice views of the lake. Delicious and well prepared sea food. We had escargot, fish and chips, and had the kids chicken strips. Every thing was great, the breading was well done on the fried foods. Staff was attentive and courteous. Everything was nice. parking was bit tight, but they offer some on site parking and lots nearby or street parking.

parking: great
view: stellar
service: perfection
food: was okay but they cook lobsters in the old inhumane way rather than a single slice before cooking.
other: the dining area inside is pretty cramped so it feels loud with just a few people dining

My wife ordered scallops, and I ordered a seafood dish. I don't write reviews often, but our food was overcooked and lacked flavor. For what we paid, our meals were very disappointing.

I strongly recommend the whole lobster [2-3 lbs] and their fresh oysters. The lobster role is also good.

We stop here for a lobster roll and the views, both things were there. Sat outside, looking at the lake (and parking lot) and got the roll. So I will say it was good, decent size, and good amount of lobster. Our server was attentive and nice. I would just say that I prefer the Connecticut style over Maine style, but I knew what I was getting here and wanted to try it. And it was tasty, just not as good (in my very personal opinion).

I would say this is probably a great place to see the sunset over dinner.

I ordered a Bloody Mary at the bar while waiting for a table. Was told later that the mix for that drink is made in bulk ahead of time in the morning. It was so peppery that I could barely drink it. Didn't want to complain, but it was terrible! The young man tending bar however had great attitude, and he was working his butt off. He really needed an assistant.

We were seated at a window table with the setting sun beating in on us. The waitress said they couldn't lower the outside shades because then they couldn't see the outside tables. It was a hot day. The A/C was inadequate, and we sat there with the sun in our eyes and sweat pouring off us as we tried to enjoy our meal. Management needs to come up with a solution for this!

Lastly, the place was very busy, and the noise level was terrible: absolutely horrendous! There are no drapes, no carpets, no padded chairs, no sorts of screens, or anything whatever to deaden the sound. It was impossible to carry on a conversation. I saw people at a neighboring table literally yelling to each other in an attempt to be heard, and we were forced to do the same. One doesn't expect a busy restaurant to be quiet, but that level of noise was unnecessary and unacceptable. Once again, management needs to address this issue. There are, indeed, solutions.

The Shanty is a moderately high-end restaurant and the prices reflect that. While the food was good, it was not spectacular. And although our waitress had an excellent attitude and did her very best to take care of us efficiently and pleasantly, she was completely overwhelmed. I don't know how she managed to keep her wits about her.

As a result of all this, the dining experience was far, far from the quality one would expect for those prices.

Our whole experience was just ok, from our main entrees to our waitress. This place is fantastic for a view of the lake. The lobster bisque was DELICIOUS but every thing else was mediocre.
