Really amazing food! On a quiet one way street with an outdoor park/seating area right across the store. Lots of other shop fronts near by so you can enjoy all your time. Food was AMAZING! Well prepared and cooked and spiced. However, the corn bread was honestly terrible but still 5 stars!

we had the pleasure of dining at The Free Range about 2 years ago. we were in VT for my birthday. Our food and service was OUTSTANDING. very eclectic menu for drinks and entrees. very sad to hear of the closing, though understandable in these times. we had hoped to return sometime soon. but remain grateful to have experienced it even once. best of luck in your future endeavors. Great food. My only complaint is 6 shrimp for the cocktail that was for 4. Besides that it was great loved the clam chowder BIG pieces of clam we did take out because of covid. We will go back

My wife and I were just charged $37 for two beers. No price listed. No one should go here unless they want to be ripped off.

Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! This is how I began my trip. I had an opportunity to visit Chester and scheduled our dinner at The Free Range Restaurant. Social distancing was in order and the wait staff, bartender along with the chef worked hand in hand to ensure quality service. We were greeted by a lovely waitress who escorted us to our social distant spot. They did a wonderful job in separating the tables and creating private booths so you can feel comfortable with your party. After taking our orders we were surprised with strawberry ginger frozen sample drinks from the bar, which were delicious. Next we had hometown favorites of the pulled pork sandwich, cole slaw, wings and I cannot forget the seafood hush puppies! Let's start right there. VS seafood hush puppies could have been a meal by themselves. They were so fluffy, crispy, crunchy, meaty and delicious. I assume they must've created this creation themselves because I've never had anything like it. Next everything was cooked to perfection and seasoned very well. We had Ma Linn, age 97 Who needed something soft but it really wasn't on the menu of what she wanted. The chef, took the time to create her something that worked for her and was delicious. He made scallops with noodles and pesto sauce and it taste divine and the plating made you want to eat it. I appreciate people who take Time to think about the quality, the appearance, and the taste, which makes us want to come back even more.In my conclusion, I want to thank each and every wait staff, bartender, and most of all the chef,owner-Jason, who took to make sure we had an awesome delightful time at the restaurant. What a great way to start my vacation! I will be back again soon. Thank you so much and your food was amazing!

What a wonderful surprise. Inside this charming house is a top-notch restaurant which is great for kids, and still had world class food for adults. Savory and classic dishes, cooked to perfection. The Tuscan chicken under a brick is a must try, paired with amazing mashed potatoes. Best I've ever had. Amazing attentive service and very reasonably priced. Total win.

I liked the decor and location, and was looking forward to trying one of the unique dishes on the menu, however, no one came to our table for at least 10 minutes, and after 40 minutes, we still did not have our cocktails and had not ordered our dinner. We left.

I appreciate the effort to have finer dining in Chester, but this place needs to work on its execution. I can’t believe it gets such high ratings. My food was so drenched in balsamic vinaigrette I couldn’t taste anything but that. My chicken was overdone. My sautéed greens were completely brown. It was freezing in the restaurant (multiple men wore their hats they were so cold!) so I ordered coffee. It would’ve been the first good thing....except it was ROOM TEMPERATURE. Meanwhile, my husband ordered the Valentines Special....and we waited...and waited...and waited....45 minutes later we were told they “missed” his ticket. The service was poor, as well. I asked for cream (she forgot it). For the price of this place, go down the street to the inn, instead!

Had a wonderful time for Valentine's day, Dylan was a doll and I'd like to thank everyone who worked that night to make ours romantic and fun! Delicious 4 course menu, you can tell a lot of love was put into it!

Some things we enjoyed but overall, in a word, underwhelming -- kind of too impressed with itself. The menu sounds fancy but the place is average. The prices were OK, pretty typical. Service was attentive, friendly, and well-informed. The food was definitely a mixed bag. One of us had pumpkin soup and crab fritters (two appetizers) as a meal. Both were excellent -- the soup was smooth, flavorful yet light, and not overly sweet. The other had caesar salad with shrimp and it was mediocre, if we're being generous. The dressing was so sharp (vinegar?) that there was little opportunity to taste anything else. The parmesan -- which we tried separately to check -- was incredibly bland, and also provided in limited quantity. Parmesan usually announces itself, this hid under the table. There were just 5 medium-sized shrimp and they were also very bland -- as far as I could tell they were cooked with no seasoning, and also had little typical shrimp flavor. This was only one meal. Maybe others have had better experiences, I hope so. Seems like a well-intentioned place with some good options, but that salad definitely brought it down.
