Take a step back in time and slow things down with a great meal and friendly and capable service that is missing in the service industry today. There is a reason why they have stayed open through centuries. The hotel is modern yet simple feeling without being overboard. The beds are amazing to curl up in and the oversized jacuzzi allows for an intimate setting.
We have just returned from a family gathering, with a large group of us staying at the Dorset Inn. We could not have been made more welcome by the staff! Each room is so unique and so very comfortable. Your morning breakfast options were just delicious. We loved sitting around the fireplace sharing laughs or playing games, and again, the staff were so helpful and friendly, checking to make sure we had what we needed. On our final night our group of 20 had the most amazing dinner - EVERYONE loved their choices for dinner and dessert. Thank you, Dorset Inn, for making our time there so very special!
The Dorset Inn is a high-end, historic restaurant with delicious cuisine, but it wasn’t a great value for me. This place was built in 1796 and they are proud to embrace that history. Everything in this restaurant looks historic and well-appointed to fit the ambiance. The staff at this restaurant are very friendly and willing to answer questions about the Inn. The menu is fairly limited and very pricy. I ordered an appetizer kale salad and the buttermilk fried chicken for my entree. The salad tasted excellent with a special dressing and blue cheese, but the portion was so small. It was not enough to justify costing $18. I also loved the fried chicken and I could tell it was well-prepared and a lot of effort went into its presentation. It was served over mashed potatoes, kale, and some other vegetables. As much as I loved it, the portion was just way too small and there’s no way that should cost $37. I was still very hungry after this meal and had to go to a pizza place to get more food. In the end, it’s a restaurant rich with history, friendly staff, a pleasant atmosphere, and great tasting food. However, the prices and portions make this restaurant low-value to me. If money isn’t an issue and you don’t mind small portions, you’ll love this place. Otherwise, there’s better restaurants out there.
Beautiful atmosphere great staff and great food.

Always love the old Dorset Inn. The food, service and ambiance, especially in the Tavern Room, are exceptional. We had the dinner rolls right out of the oven, followed by a cup of soup for me and hummus for my dinner partner. Then I had the sautéed calves liver and onions while my partner had butter-milk fried chicken. For dessert we shared a chocolate brownie sundae. All delicious!
LOVE the Dorset Inn. We always come here for special occasions. Yesterday we were celebrating birthdays and they took great care of us. The food is delicious, the staff are incredibly kind, and the atmosphere is so cozy. Highly recommend!
Tonight's specials were outstanding, served with appropriate sides. We started with salads, which were accompanied by well-made dressings. The dessert special came out warmed and sufficient to share. Lastly, my spouse's Old-Fashion was well made, and my beer was served at the right temperature with a chilled glass. The service was excellent and attentive.
The Dorset Inn and restaurant has been a favorite of ours for decades. We chose to stay elsewhere for a change (and because of the room rates)but had a nice dinner there instead. We love the ambiance of the inn and dining room and have many fond memories of our visits over the years but it's not quite the same. I understand the difficulties inn owners and restaurants face now with the effects of inflation but there are many other choices in the area that in my opinion offer better values. Dinner was good, not great and lacked some of the creativity of the past. Pork ribeye was pretty good, the veal paillard was tasteless. Excellent Caesar salad.
First time dining. Will chose another location next time. Chose the “special occasion” experience where they would add a special occasion 4” cake for a birthday at an additional charge. We were seated in the tavern instead of the main dinging room despite choosing “birthday” as the occasion. We ordered a bottle of champagne. They did not have the special occasion cake I had ordered available and did not recognize the birthday. Will not be back.
Very small menu for dinner that is very well executed. The original tavern area is very cool.

Charming in and restaurant with several venues to dine at. We had past hors d'oeuvres and wine first for our group and others and the selection was presented well. Several dips including Trout and cheese platter were fine. Some at our table had the lobster roll, which was very good others had crabcake and the pasta dish or nice present. We would definitely die here again.
Dinner after a matinee at the Dorset Playhouse and a most enjoyable evening. Had to start with a Dorset dinner roll and a mocktail. The wine list seemed to be extensive. Dinner was delightful and the service was exceptionally pleasant and part of the appeal.
This is an historical location. I know they're trying to give the dining room an “old” patina, but it borders on looking downright dirty. Paint the entry and dining room in satin finish in a color appropriate to the period instead.
We arrived early to check it out and went in the tavern. Chris was just setting up the bar and could not have been more accommodating. He switched our reservation from a table to the bar where we proceeded to have a wonderful evening. The food was amazing as was the wine. Kudos to the manager who recommended wines. On a scale from 1-10 I rate it a 15! Absolutely excellent. Chris you are an amazing bartender. Thank you!!
We were in Vermont last week and we had 2 excellent dinners here and everyone loved their meals, all 6 of us! The food , service and the beautiful setting were exceptional which is why we came back a second time! The potato leek soup was especially delicious. We all will definitely be back the next time we are in Vermont.
