Hands down one of the best sandwhiches I've ever had! Lovely staff, reasonably priced and amazing river views. Will be bringing several sandwhiches back home for the family!

I would have taken pictures… but I ate my Bahn mi so fast ! Absolutely delicious. I found the Workhorse Cafe through a search for Vietnamese food… Enter the Bahn mi. In standard VT fashion not a whole lot of spice but jalapeños and hot sauce took care of it. I left my entire bag on my 1st visit but was back the next morning for another sandwich and my bag. Only 25ish minutes from Chester I will hands down be back many many more times.

Came into town for a little hiking and ran into this place totally unplanned which was cool because nothing is open on Monday and Tuesday when I was there. Not only did a have an amazing bahn mi I was able to get a frozen pre cooked meal for my Airbnb. And some great local beers. Service and people are great as well!!! Definitely stop here

From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm, welcoming vibe and the comforting smell of home-cooked breakfast wafting through the air. The staff are incredibly friendly and genuinely passionate about what they do—it really shows in both the service and the food.
I had the iced coffee and was seriously impressed. Not only was it smooth and bold, but they use frozen coffee ice cubes—a genius move that keeps your drink cold without watering it down. It’s that kind of attention to detail that sets this place apart.
The breakfast burrito was absolutely tremendous—stuffed with crispy bacon, perfectly cooked potatoes, eggs, melty cheese, and just the right touch of sour cream. It was hearty, flavorful, and seriously satisfying from the first bite to the last.
But the real star of the breakfast menu? The Vermonter breakfast sandwich. Served on a warm, homemade roll and dressed with just the right touch of real Vermont maple syrup, it was pure heaven. The sweet-salty combo was unforgettable, and every bite felt like a love letter to Vermont mornings.
The space itself is cozy and thoughtfully designed, making it a perfect spot to relax, catch up with a friend, or even get some work done. You can tell it's a place that values community, quality, and craft.
If you're in the area heading to Stratton Mountain for a day of skiing, you'd be crazy not to stop here for breakfast first. Fuel up right—you won’t regret it.

Great breakfast spot. Haven’t tried the smoked meats yet but I’m sure they are great since it’s all made onsite.
Update 3/14/25 - get here early or wait an eternity. It didn’t help that some schmuck (prob from NY) ordered nine sandwiches completely crippling the assembly line.

The perfect hangover cure! Incredible build your own breakfast sandwich (bacon, egg, Swiss on sourdough) with a hash brown, maple coffee (with coffee ice cubes!), breakfast burrito with bacon, and absolutely incredible onion rings, too! Hit the spot after a big ski weekend.

The best breakfast sandwiches in the area. Consistently cooked to perfection

Workhorse is the best breakfast around with very reasonable prices!!! Treat these folks well, they make awesome food. Definitely go for the Vermonter breakfast sandwich with a hash brown!

Our new favorite breakfast spot near Stratton. Delicious sandwiches (the Vermonter was everything you ever wanted in a breakfast sandwich), great coffee, and they allow well-behaved dogs inside! Such a delight. We will be coming back often!

Awesome spot for sandwiches, especially after a good ski day at Stratton! Highly recommend the Pork Bahn Mi, it was dynamite! Looking forward to dining at this cozy little eatery again the next time
I ski in the area!

Loved my breakfast from here. Easy to grab and go or sit down and enjoy your meal. Beautiful views off the back in the warmer months. Very kind and helpful staff. I enjoyed their ice cream sandwiches to go, drinks and more. 10/10

I had a really frustrating experience with Workhorse Cafe. First, their phone line was glitchy – it took eight calls just to get through. When someone finally answered, the first thing they told me was that they were closing at 2 PM... this was at 1:15 PM. I think this was enough time to make 2 sandwiches and a weird way to greet a customer.

I specifically asked for a sandwich with no chicken, but when I got my order, the sandwich had chicken. At that point, it felt like a waste of money and effort. The lack of attention to detail and the hassle just to order left me really disappointed. Not sure I’ll be coming back.
