Plenty of coffee options with a bit of a twist, but more importantly, just done well. The staff is very friendly and thorough with your order. The place is small but fits perfectly as a coffee house worth your visit. Sit inside at the counter and enjoy their vinyl tunes or take your order downtown to explore, either way, you'll be satisfied.

This was a chill coffee spot. Definitely do not come here if you want a quick cup of coffee -- one of they joys of this place was watching each latte made with special care but because of this each drink will get the Barista's full attention.I really enjoyed speaking with him (I assume he may be the owner). This guy didn't seem capable of having a bad day, he was genuinely kind and welcoming to everyone that walked through the door. Gave me good vibes for the rest of our day!

Love it! I agree with every review and don't have anything to add. Can't believe waited so long to come here! Owner Matt does want folks to know food served currently only Thurs to Sun but welcome to bring their own other days.

Pretty good good coffee and latte. Small portions and bit over priced.

I believe it was called the cardamom latte and it was really good. However, we got there and it's a small place, stood in front of the girl to order and neither her or the other guy even acknowledged us. We were so close to them it got awkward and it actually made me feel like they didn't want my business. She finally asked what I wanted, but nothing else. They both looked miserable. Maybe they were in a lovers quarrel ‍

Middlebury is lucky to have two great coffee shops. Royal Oak is small, intimate, welcoming. Good music playing. As an ex-craft coffee bar owner, I can say that these folks know their trade. Perfect coffee drinks, executed quickly and with a smile. The food offerings are minimal. That’s not a bad thing, just a fact. They also sell locally roasted high quality coffee beans. Basically a perfect coffee shop.

I stopped in to Royal Oak on a weekday mid-morning at the recommendation of a local Middlebury student. So glad I did! This was hands-down the best mocha latte I have ever had. The owner/barista quickly and expertly measured every step with the precision of a chemist (and zero pretentiousness), while chatting politely with me throughout. A must-have treat if you’re passing through!

Nice atmosphere, friendly baristas, punishingly bitter (though admittedly very strong) coffee.

Best coffee in the area, by a mile. These folks know their craft and are wonderful people. All quality, no pretension.
