Well balanced ingredients and flavors, finally a salad that's not boring! This antipasta salad is kind of perfection & the donut was perfect texture - not overly sweet or complicated - just delicious!

Cute place to get breakfast or lunch. Had the Eggplant Parm Bun and it was excellent! Good choices of sweet and savory buns and pastries. Good selection of coffee drinks. Will definitely return soon!

First: the procedure for eating here is really unclear. Walk in and see - a big counter and a bunch of people eating inside, but no indication of if we should seat ourselves, wait to be seated, order at the counter, or what. Finally asked someone behind the counter, and they indicated that I order food and then have a seat. Ok - why no signage anywhere stating that?
Second: Our sandwiches came, and they were small! Tiny chicken cutlet, fried egg, a few leaves of arugala, some aioli. The whole thing was about the size of a child's menu hamburger. The kicker? Each one was nearly 20 bucks!! I left hungrier than when I arrived!
Third: You have to bus your own table. Fine, but at least put a tub in the upstairs area so customers don't have to carry all of their dirty dishes & glasses down the stairs.

No contest, hands-down, no debate, at all, the best cinnamon bun I have ever had. Not even close. It’s fresh, flavorful, warm, and perfect in every sense. Great coffee and outside area.

Gorgeous location. That deck! Love the coffee drinks and selection. Booze! Their food menu is great. The only thing I don’t like is their buns by themselves, they tend to be dry and bland.

The service was friendly, the drinks, muffin, fries and atmosphere were good, but sadly, overall, a disappointment. Stereotypical, bland VT food but with farm fresh ingredients. It was my second time giving this place a try and each time I had a similar experience.
They told us it was a 30 minute wait, which makes sense on weekend, but it ended up taking them an hour to get us fries, a $22 farrow bowl, and very small $22 chicken salad that had about as much flavor as my sleeve. The farrow bowl flavors (or lack there of) were almost exactly the same as my salad. Maybe we just got unlucky with how they prepared our food, maybe there are other better dishes on the menu… but still, based off of my two experiences there, I’d say fresh, quality ingredients, while present at Haymaker, are no substitute for a chef who actually knows how to consistently craft and deliver great tasting dishes. Although the chicken had zero taste the salad needed more of it (for what you’re paying) more fresh herbs as well as acid of some sort (lemon, balsamic, acv) in the dressing. The fries were decent but did not come with any kind of dipping sauce accept high fructose corn syrup ketchup you could get at the counter.
Perhaps they might consider sticking to baking, increasing meal size and skill/craft level of their dishes, upgrade their flavors or simply reduce their prices to match what you get. I understand there is very little competition in Middlebury in terms of high quality restaurants, and people are desperate to find worthwhile spots within VT’s slim selection, but come on, is this really James Beard finalist standard?

It’s a good place but with one huge disadvantage.
I took matcha with orange juice-amazing!
Sweet buns are super delicious.
However, they don’t really know what is inside. My friend is allergic to garlic and onions. I double and triple checked that ricotta bun with broccoli was free of both, however, unfortunately it contained onions😭
It was a huge disappointment.
