It's unclear whether this establishment wants to be a restaurant, or basement bar. The explicit music and lack of cleanliness suggest it leans more towards a bar. While it might be dog-friendly, the presence of non-service animals and handling food directly violates Vermont's health code. I watched an employee pet a dog at the bar just before handling our food. Even though they have a kids menu it's advisable to avoid bringing children here.

Kid-friendliness: It's a bar

Good food. Funky counter service spot, with a small bar and good beers on tap. The outdoor area right overlooking the river would be really nice in the warm weather. Keep it up Mad Taco.

While exploring Middlebury, VT, my wife and I developed a craving for tacos and discovered The Mad Taco - a cozy spot with a rustic charm and inviting atmosphere. We began our meal with the Chips and Guacamole, priced at $9, which featured fresh, creamy guacamole with a hint of lime, making it a delightful start.

For our main course, we each ordered two tacos, selecting the Achiote Chicken and Roasted Yams options, both priced at $14. The Achiote Chicken tacos offered a smoky, savory flavor, with tender, house-smoked chicken topped with onion, guacamole, and cilantro. The Roasted Yam tacos were a pleasant surprise, combining black beans, slaw, and cilantro for a unique and satisfying taste.

The service was friendly and attentive, with staff who clearly cared about the quality of the food and our experience. We were pleased with our order. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and carefully prepared. The Mad Taco was a fantastic find in Middlebury and the perfect spot to satisfy our taco craving. We are glad they have multiple locations.

2 tacos for 24 bucks is a sham! For that price, i was figuring at least a shreaded beef. Nope, ground beef in a cold, uncooked taco. Never going back. I will avoid this place in the future.

Just wow! I came to mad taco with little expectation, as Mexican food in Vermont is almost always subpar. The bartender Ben was so nice, and had me laughing my butt off the entire meal, when our bowl came, I turned to my wife and said “this is dangerous!”. My wife agreed, it looked so delicious! After the first bite, I had to go collect my socks, because they had been knocked right off! Chelsey the manager came out to ask us how our food was, and I could barely muster a word because I was still so blown away by how good our food was. My wife and I also got shrimp tacos, and again…. Had to apologize to the people next to me, because my socks had again, been knocked right off. Our food came so fast, I was barely able to get a sip of my locally crafted beer before our food came, and some say that I am the Joey chestnut of drinking beer, so that is FAST food service. My wife and I will be back, because just WOW

Hostess was blunt, no personality at all, not helpful to a new customer. My Burrito was cold. You order and go sit outside then wait for them to come out and call your name so you can go back in and get it! Tables not very clean. Won’t be going back.

Amazing food with so much flavor! We got the pork belly tacos and they were some of of the best I have had! The food came out quickly and was perfect! The inside is clean and super fun but very small. They have hilarious wall decorations and stickers! This place is a 10 outta 10!

Dietary restrictions: They have Gluten Free options for everything!

Wheelchair accessibility: The inside is too small for most mobility devices, but there is a patio that is very open.

This spot is tasty, friendly, and has fantastic outdoor seating facing Otter Creek. The kimchi and shrimp tacos are delicious, authentic, and fresh. The Pablo Paloma is the perfect tequila drink for a hot summer day. Highly recommended if you’re in Middlebury.

Tacos are fantastic. So far smoked pork kimchi is my favorite. I didn’t think 2 tacos would be enough. I was wrong. These are overfilled doubled shelled tacos. Also really solid VT beer selection. Beers are Hill Farmstead, Edward.

Yummy tacos, quality ingredients, generous amount of cilantro. I appreciate a tasty gluten free alternative. Atmosphere gets 4 stars when outside; inside not so nice. Friendly service.

Dietary restrictions: Corn tortillas make this a good gluten-free option.
