We came to the Black Lantern for dinner last weekend. We had the most lovely service and such an incredible dinner. The brussels sprouts appetizer was out of this world, the cocktails and mocktails were delicious and the chicken sandwich was filled with flavour. I highly recommend coming here for dinner!

We come to Montgomery at least once a year and have never been able to make it to Black Lantern due to schedule, etc. We finally made it tonight. We did not have reservations but thankfully didn’t have trouble getting a table and had excellent service by Kyle. The food was farm to table and fresh. Lots of local drink options. Excellent all around.

Stayed here a few years back, one of my most amazing memories of Vermont. Rustic, scenic, and cozy.

My partner and I dined in for dinner at the beginning of the month and had a truly phenomenal experience. The food was remarkable, the staff incredible, the drinks wonderful, and the hospitality unforgettable.
Kyle took great care of us as we wanted to sit outside and was both personable and professional. I highly recommend to both locals and those visiting to eat some of their delicious food and enjoy the atmosphere.
We stayed 2 nights at the Black Lantern as part of our rodtrip in the American North East. Montgomery was our last stop before crossing the Canadian border. The hotel is more like a guesthouse in its operation with a restaurant for dinners. You have to read the story of this little haven of peace which almost disappeared and which was put back on track by locals. The welcome is very pleasant, the rooms are very comfortable and large. The practical bathroom with an old-fashioned bathtub. It is indeed old but full of charm and very clean. We were looking for this authenticity. The hotel is reminiscent of these relay stations which marked the routes of the stagecoaches in a not so distant past or the house of our grandparents in which we find the oderus and the reassuring noises of our childhood. The restaurant is also very pleasant. The products are fresh and the dishes are well prepared. A selection of good wines can accompany them (a significant detail for 2 French guests!). And what can we say about this superb green and hilly region, dotted with covered bridges, wooden houses and churches decorated with their most beautiful American flags, like so many images from Epinal.
Make a stopover!

Nestled amidst serene landscapes, the Black Lantern Inn stands as a beacon of tranquility. The room exuded charm, offering a seamless blend of comfort and rustic allure. But it wasn't just the cozy ambiance that impressed; the hamburger served at the inn's restaurant was a gastronomic delight, bursting with flavor and satisfaction. And let's not forget the highlight: the unparalleled view, offering a front-row seat to the celestial spectacle of the 2024 eclipse. It was a moment of pure magic, framed by nature's grandeur. They even left me some solar eclipse glasses waiting for me in my room. For a retreat that tantalizes the senses and ignites the soul, look no further than the Black Lantern Inn.

The restaurant is delicious- fresh food, great service, and rustic warm ambiance. A favorite for when we visit the area
we enjoyed our stay here! very big fan of the check in process, which is simply picking up the key to your room. and check out was leaving your key in a cup. the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. the quilt was heavy and wonderful. my husband did experience a cold shower in the morning. I did enjoy a hot shower in the afternoon. there were also a dozen or so ladybugs around, however we know that isn’t too much in their control. the bathroom was large and clean. everything was very simple. there is cable tv, however we had to unplug the tv at night bc it acted as a nightlight? any motion and it would brighten for a long time until it was still again. never experienced something like that before. it was very close to town. and close enough to jay peak.
