Visiting from Florida and so glad we came! We did the distillery tour with family and it was one of the best distillery tour experiences I’ve had. The host, Roger, was excellent. We sampled several different spirits and learned a lot about the process and history of distilling in the Vermont region. After the tour our group of 6 had snacks and cocktails outside. The food and drinks were great and we enjoyed the view. I definitely recommend this spot to anyone visiting the Montpelier area.

We absolutely loved our experience at Barr Hill. The drinks were fantastic and the food was delicious. We shared several small plates and loved everything we tried. Highly recommend the Passionate Knees and the mushroom crostini. We will definitely be back!

Good food and awesome gin. They have a great selection of their products and merchandise in their store. Staff do a great job of explaining how their products are made.

Free tastings at the entrance. The food was exquisite, thoughtfully prepared to pair beautifully with the well crafted drinks. Amazing experience!

We stumbled upon Barr Hill completely by chance—and honestly, I couldn’t have planned a better discovery if I tried. Even before stepping inside, we were blown away by Barr Hill’s commitment to sustainability and their deep respect for nature’s generosity. The gardens, the grounds, and the innovative efforts toward self-sufficiency were nothing short of inspiring.

And then we walked in.

The space is a beautiful tribute to pollinators—the unsung heroes of our ecosystem. Every detail, from the décor to the menu, reflects a deep appreciation for the natural world. We started with the whipped feta topped with fresh herbs, and words can’t do justice to how delicious it was. Followed by the sweet corn chowder and the pork belly. All outstanding.

Then came the drinks. The Tom Cat was a perfect blend of gin with subtle bourbon notes from the aging process—a creative, complex flavor that danced on the palate. The Bees Knees was so good I seriously considered licking the coupe... but I settled for ordering another round instead.

We were so impressed, we didn’t leave empty-handed—we ordered both the Tom Cat and Barr Hill Gin, online, to be shipped back home to Minnesota.

If you’re anywhere near Barr Hill, do yourself a favor and stop in. You’ll be glad you did. The staff, the chef, the drinks, the grounds, the entire experience were BEE-autiful! 🐝🌼

Fantastic cocktail program. Great vibe. Perfect place to read a book, snack, and chat in the middle of winter. Power outlets under the bar if you want to work a bit too.

Barr Hill makes some of the best gin I've ever had! Always have a bottle of their original gin and Tom Cat at home. Can't beat the flavor.
My family and I went there for the eclipse in April 2024 - their tasting room and bar are so well done, and their outside amenities were really nice too! Delicious mixed drinks, and they handled the crowd really well for a relatively small place.
Definitely going back next time we are in VT!

Did a tasting and 4 different mixed drinks at the restaurant. Did the cheese board and potatoes as well.

Everything was wonderful. Just a bit pricey, but they had a great sale on the gin which included a free glass. Staff at restaurant and retail side were knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and friendly.

Worth a trip to stop by for sure.

The KINDEST and most welcoming team at Barr Hill. We visited on a trip to VT and the team here offered so many recommendations that shaped our trip. The cocktail bar in the back was decorated like a winter wonderland which got us into the holiday spirit. The cocktail menu was abundant and had so many awesome choices. Loved the spiced cranberry bees knees! The shop was also huge and plentiful. Would absolutely come back!

Jackie poo is my favorite bartender. My own thing would be that he didn’t offer me the bees knees slushy when I was here :(

Great concept, friendly service, good food and drink.

My professional association held a social/educational event at Barr Hill last week. It is a perfect venue for a gathering: we were greeted warmly by the staff, the appetizers we selected were delicious, and the tour helped up understand the products' roots in regional agriculture. The clearest sign of a great setting: everyone lingered after the event ended.
