“Penzo makes the perfect pizza. The dough is baked just right and there are enough tasty menu options that we can have a different meal each time we go. They are super friendly and just want to make the world a better place through good food. I'd also add that their prices are below the curve. We miss you in Montpelier!!!”

“Don’t sleep on Indian-Nepali Kitchen— best Indian food in Vermont! The dishes are packed with so much flavor, the portions are generous, and the owners are super friendly! We jump at the opportunity to stop in and try something new every time we are in Montpelier. On one of our visits, my partner wanted a beer, and the owner let him try an imported Indian ale from his own stock. So good! Grab take out, or even better drop in and get the full experience!!”

“Every time I've been, the menu has been almost entirely different and I've ordered a wide sampling from the menu. I've test to have a single bite of food that wasn't thoughtful, intentional, perfectly prepared, and delicious. The bar program is also fantastic, as is the service. I cannot recommend this spot highly enough!”

“This is a beautiful spot by the winooski river, we ate on the outside porch with a view of the river, even saw a mother Robin feeding its young in a nest in the rafters. I had linguine pescatore which was delicious, my partner had scampi e cape sante also delicious but unfortunately both meals were light on the scallops hers had 1, also I have to wonder why some sort of bread wouldn’t be served with these dishes. I did mention to staff after and they offered to compensate which I turned down but was made sure I would be treated next time we’re in the area The staff here are great and service was quick, definitely a place to go”

“Seriously delicious enchiladas, refried beans, and rice. Maybe I’m being dramatic after being deprived of Mexican food as a San Diego native while living in NYC (it’s all garbage), but wow this spot made me so happy. I got the ground beef for my enchiladas. Flavorful, tender, real corn tortillas, cheesy, all around so good. Also got a great Vermont Mexican lager that was really nice. I tried all the salsas too! Loved the skater rock vibe. Reminds me of home in the middle of VT. YUM. Thanks guys 🤙”

“Buddy's Famous Burgers is one of those small, low-key spots that can easily be overlooked if you're walking through downtown Montpelier, but it's absolutely worth stopping in.

The burgers are great, especially if you're a fan of smash burgers. The patties are thin, flavorful, and don't leave you feeling like you just ate a bowling ball. They have that perfect balance of being filling without feeling overly heavy, which makes it very easy to justify ordering fries or a dessert afterward.

One thing I always judge a place by is a strawberry banana smoothie. It's such a classic flavor that if someone manages to mess it up, that's honestly impressive for all the wrong reasons. Thankfully, Buddy passed the test. Their strawberry banana smoothie is simple, refreshing, and exactly what you want it to be.

They also have little gems throughout the shop that make it feel unique. The Mexican Cola in the glass bottles is always a fun addition, and if you have a sweet tooth, you're in trouble. I've definitely stopped in for late-night ice cream more than once. Their massive scoops of vanilla and chocolate ice cream loaded with sprinkles are worth every calorie, and the ice cream cookie sandwiches in the freezer are dangerously good.
Overall, if you're looking for a classic American-style burger spot with great food, good desserts, and a relaxed atmosphere, Buddy's is definitely worth a visit.”

“I was on a road trip from Seattle. Stopped in early afternoon. To be honest, I partly went because of so many negative reviews in the past and I was curious to see if they were justified. Maybe they were at the time but I really enjoyed my experience. The place is clean, bathrooms are clean, bartender was very friendly and attentive. I suggest you give it a try.”

“This review is for the $5 Margarita Wednesdays. (And if you sit at the bar, you get free chips and salsa.) Mike, the bartender, is an excellent guy. The margaritas are ok tasting, but they do the trick. Sometimes the chips are a bit stale, but again they’re free so no complaints there.

I’ve never actually eaten here—other than the chips and salsa. Their food looks mediocre and most of the reviews reflect that. But this is Montpelier, and most of the people here aren’t that demanding, so they can get away with not upping their game in the kitchen.”
