Roots in Rutland really stood out. We started with the eggplant chips, which were perfectly crisp and packed with flavor. For mains, we had the ravioli and tofu, both were incredibly hearty and fresh, with a thoughtful balance of textures and flavors that made each bite satisfying.
The non-alcoholic berry sangria was refreshing and well balanced, and the chocolate mousse was a great finish, rich, smooth, and just indulgent enough.
A special shoutout to Christian for exceptional service. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, he elevated the whole experience.
This place is clearly in demand, so reservations are a must. A fantastic spot in Rutland that we’d happily return to.

Insane to find this in a relatively small town, this is the closest ive experienced to Michelin star cooking by far. Well done chef, we've dined here a few times and are blown away by the chefs prowess each time. Wish you had a cookbook.

Do NOT pass up on the brussel sprouts, even my bf who does not like brussel sprouts was impressed. I had the tofu dish which is already vegan with no modifications needed. Not a whole lot of tofu though and mostly just rice noodles but was still delicious. Now the fries were absolutely perfect. And unlike the small dish sizes you can get a bucket of fries and it's a literal bucket.
Want to give a shout out to this restaurant. Loved the food and the service. Will come back when I’m in the area.

A haven in Rutland! Cozy, diverse menu, kind service and able to flex for our mid-sized party number change.
5 star! Our server was very friendly, food was outstanding, great atmosphere! Roots is fantastic!
We had a fantastic experience dining with our family at Roots while on vacation in Vermont. We began with the calamari appetizer - the calamari was fresh, crispy and the citrus marinated peppers gave it a unique spin. My youngest son (16) had the ravioli (loved the pasta, but thought the corn in the sauce was a bit odd.) The older son (19) had the whiskey steak (said it was tasty and tender - did not offer to share). My husband had the cod. It was a generous portion of fish on jasmine rice. It looked gorgeous and he tells me it was moist and delicious... he did not offer to share either though! I had the duck. AMAZING. Cooked perfectly and balanced beautifully with blueberry and dried cherries. The breast was so large that I let everyone at the table have a taste and they were each impressed. There is a nice wine list here as well as some unique cocktail offerings. We also found a great selection of deserts. Again, the portion size was generous! Even the coffee after dinner was perfect. We found the meal to be ideally paced, and our server was delightful. We will definitely return here when in the area!
Meatballs excellent. Some of the other entrees were good but not excellent. This 4 vs 5 stars. Service a little slow and meals coming out were very staggered. 2 people got their meals as the rest were finishing up. Worth a try.
Our server was very knowledgeable about restaurant's offerings, smiling, caring to our needs. Exceptional!
We had a wonderful Saturday night dinner that we enjoyed immensely. The cod was cooked perfectly as was the salmon. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive.

Roots consistantly serves good food. Casual restaurant, great bar. High quality, valueand presentation are delivered. This restaurant can get noisey when busy, the night we dined at the bar, it was not busy.
Food and service consistently excellent. Fresh ingredients. Highly recommend the Roots salad and the tomato/basil soup. And crème brûlée!! With cocktail of choice it's the perfect place for dinner before a show.
I took my spouse to Roots for his birthday. He ordered the ribeye, which he said was "pretty good" and he enjoyed the accompanying potatoes and carrots. I ordered the coconut-crusted cod which was topped with pickled veggies and came on a bed of scented rice, accompanied by baby spinach. All were delicious! Spouse had the carrot cake a la mode for dessert, which was very tasty. Beer and wine were good, but I thought a bit pricey. Our server, Trey, gave us just the right amount of attention, and added a candle to my spouses birthday dessert-a very kind touch! The only drawback to Roots is that it can be very loud in the restaurant, to the point of being quite irritating. I'm sure management can find a reasonably priced, easy solution to absorb some of that noise. I hope they do.
Nice little place in downtown Rutland. Was given a gift certificate from someone that really enjoys this place. Some tables, like ours was quite dark. My husband and I both ordered the VT ribeye. Came with a mound of glazed carrots. If this was written on the menu, I would have asked for a substitute or left off the plate as not to waste. I personally don't like cooked carrots. My husband said they were delicious. We both agreed that the potatoes were OK and needed seasoning. The steaks, my husbands was under cooked but he isn't that picky. And ate it anyway. Mine was supposed to be medium. It was nearly raw. We never send things back to the kitchen in any restaurant. For one, the point is to eat together in a restaurant. And from working in kitchens in the past, I have seen some stuff. We brought the steak home and cooked it and it was actually pretty good. I feel like since I told them I would cook it at home they could have knocked off $5 or something just for the inconvenience. But thats ok. Would we go back? I truly believe in 2nd chances. Yes. We will give it another try. This could have been a fluke thing. And now we know about the carrots. Which im sure everyone but me will love
Great food and service. Although, the noise level is a little too high for comfortable conversation.
