Few tee boxes and greens are terrible

Parker Lyman

This course has good bone and could be great. Overall is wasn't in the worst shape but the greens were far to long, the sand traps were hard and the tee boxes we full of weeds. It took what would have been a challenging course and turned it into a punishing course.

It is a hard course to walk since it is hilly and long. Made even harder by the lack of any water refill station on the back 9. I would have enjoyed the course more if I hadn't been dehydrated for the last 5 holes.

The course itself is beautiful and challenging. Unfortunately, the upkeep is subpar. Many of the greens had dead spots and minimal grass on the surrounds. Fairways were mowed but the Tee boxes and rough had weeds and dead spots.

Overall, the course has great bones and the staff was great. The main issue is the conditioning. Never a good sign when your practice green is completely dead and unusable. Hoping they can get it back in shape soon.

This course is dying. Stay away. Greens are awful, hopefully the owners sell.

I remember my father golfing here years ago and raving about how great it was. This year I decided it was time to try it out. My wife and I golf around the area at several courses, and we finally went to St. J CC. The first trip back in June I was not impressed. Course was in disrepair, green were brown, Sand traps were unplayable. We decided to give it another try yesterday. I will say that all courses have struggled with the excessive rain so the golf cart paths were bumpy and sometimes tough to navigate. I did however see lots of course improvements. The T-boxes and greens were in much better shape. Well mowed fairways also. The holes were well marked with signage. This course is so fun an challenging, great views, and really great course layout. I hope the improvements continue it truly can be a Gem. I would not shy away from playing here, very modestly prices for what it is. I look forward to playing as often as possible here. The course can only support itself by members and walk-ins not losing hope. The food was amazing back when we played in June!

What a waste of $62…the front nine was okay but the back nine are a joke. The greens should be called browns…my son and I played at lake morey Saturday and then st jay Sunday. What a difference. One course is taken care of by someone who loves it and knows what they’re doing - the other is just sad. To charge that much when it’s obviously in such bad shape is just wrong. For half that I’d still play there and not complain.

If I could rate the course solely on the employees of the pro shop and restaurant, the review would be a 5. Unfortunately the course itself is in horrid condition...the worst I've ever played on. The greens and fairways have significant winter kill and fungus. The tee boxes are overgrown with bare spots and weeds. The greens are extremely shaggy from not having been mowed for several days. My husband had played this course several years ago and said it was a challenging and beautiful course. He was shocked by the condition it is in today.

Embarrassing. The tee boxes are in awful shape. The greens are unplayable.

Owners should sell the course - they clearly have no desire to run a golf course. The greens slow and bumpy because whoever is in charge doesn’t know how to manage Dollar Spot. If they had any turf management experience they would know how to mitigate it. I can’t imagine they will be in business much longer..

Course in terrible shape. Skunks have destroyed the fairways, Greens are in awful condition. Cannot believe we were charged full price. Stay away!

Played here yesterday. The staff was very nice. However the course is in disrepair. Most of the holes have no signs to let you know the hole layout, some of the fairways were completely torn up, the green boxes shot more like bunkers, and the greens were full of divots. They did do some basic maintenance, like moving the grass, but otherwise I am not sure they put any effort into the course.

The restaurant is outstanding. The ambiance is pristine and lovely. The food is just excellent. I would totally come back. Didn’t get to golf due to rain but the course looked beautiful.
