A Masterclass in Deception. Do Not Be Fooled by the 4.6 Stars

My wife and I came here expecting a special dinner based on glowing reviews. What we got was a textbook tourist trap with a view. Yes, the setting is gorgeous. Vermont mountains in the distance, open-air ambiance, cozy lighting. But once the food hits the table, the charm dies fast.

I ordered the roasted chicken. What arrived was three thin slices of poultry on a puddle of sauce, garnished with a few microgreens. It looked more like a sample than a $44 entrée. My wife’s “Gnudi” was overpowered by a bitter green sauce, rubbery in texture, and she couldn’t finish it. I ended up eating both meals just to feel like I had dinner, but left still hungry. We ended up grabbing pizza afterward because we felt completely ripped off.

The bill? $80 before tip. For what amounts to two appetizers. No drinks, no dessert, no extras.

To add insult to injury: they charge you $25 per person if you cancel a reservation. That should have been our first red flag.

This restaurant survives off its view and inflated reputation. The food is nowhere near the quality or portion size you’d expect at this price point. The 4.6-star rating is wildly misleading and risks conning more travelers like us.

We left upset, unsatisfied, and shocked that this place gets away with calling itself fine dining. Save your money and your evening. Go somewhere that cares more about the plate than the patio.

For our special occasion we choose this restaurant where:

* Ambience was great
* Services was fine.
* How to reach the restaurant was challenged since the road for the last 1km was not asphalt paver and I almost damaged my car.
* Food was expensive if I take into consideration the ratio between what I paid and what I received.
* When I checked the menu even if I selected the large plates the portions were tiny in a huge dish.
* Likely I won't return neither recommend to anyone.
* Finally, I was disappointed with my choice.

Easily the best restaurant we have ever been to. This culinarily experience is pure magic. The road to get to the restaurant, walking in the front door, the common area where you can enjoy a drink and games around the fire until your table is ready…..then you sit to eat…..and it gets even better. The food is full of a flavors exploding and combing in your mouth. The staff are all so amazing, they truly make you feel at home. The atmosphere is unmatched, there is an upstairs and downstairs, and I can’t even pick a favorite! Upstairs is a whimsical experience and downstairs is a warm, roaring fire, tavern! We have tried both and I love them both! When we come to Stowe, this is the one place we always so back to! To the Edson Hill staff, you guys knock it out of the park, every single time! I have never had staff, actually take as much time answering our questions, giving us recommendations when we asked, and making us feel completely at home as you did last night. Also they were beyond accommodating with food allergies and have a separate fryer for gluten free. Edson Hill you are our favorite ❤️

Edson Hill restaurant is truly exceptional! Nestled in a picturesque setting, the dining room itself creates a memorable atmosphere before you even taste the food.

The cuisine was outstanding—perfectly prepared and presented. Our server Ally deserves special recognition for her excellent recommendations that enhanced our meal experience. As someone with food allergies, I was impressed by their meticulous attention to dietary restrictions, providing peace of mind while dining.

The entire experience from ambiance to service to the final bite was absolutely top-tier. Edson Hill has secured a permanent spot on my must-visit list whenever I'm in the Stowe area. A flawless dining experience worth seeking out!

Had dinner with my wife here, highlight of our ski trip at Stowe. Service was super friendly and attentive. Octopus and squash appetizers were incredible. The duck entree was the best duck I think I've ever had. We'll be back again next visit to Stowe.

Dining at Edson Hill in Stowe, Vermont, is an unforgettable experience that perfectly captures the charm of a quintessential New England inn. Before dinner, guests can relax in the cozy living room, where a crackling fireplace and inviting seating create the perfect atmosphere for sipping a cocktail or a glass of wine. The dining room itself is warm and elegant, offering a seasonal, locally inspired menu that highlights Vermont’s finest ingredients. Every dish is beautifully prepared and full of rich, comforting flavors that complement the stunning surroundings. Whether you’re visiting for a special occasion or simply to enjoy a refined yet relaxed meal, Edson Hill delivers an exceptional dining experience from start to finish.

My wife and I had our anniversary dinner here and we are so glad we did. The atmosphere here is quaint and the staff is very friendly. Our service throughout the meal was phenomenal and we never went unattended. The food was absolutely delicious! We had the ribeye and duck for our mains and wow, both might have been the best we've had at any restaurant. Dessert was just as good thanks to our server's recommendation. This is a great spot for a night out and I would come back anytime.

We had a really disappointing experience here this evening. We were looking forward to dinner here with our 2 year old son as a highlight of our trip and a way to go out and celebrate the vacation we have been on. We made this reservation over a month ago and confirmed with Edson hill the restaurant was child friendly. We were provided a high chair and children’s menu and had a wonderful table set up downstairs in the bar area . There was a table across from us on an anniversary celebration and we understand kids are not for everyone in a dining setting so we always order immediately and either myself or husband will walk our son outside while we wait for food to arrive as to make sure we are as polite as we can be with any noise and then bring him back when we are ready to eat . On tonight’s occasion, we had the feeling the table next to us did not like a child being seated nearby so we did this with my husband going outside in the quite cold weather with my son. I ordered immediately our entire dinner - a salad , my son’s pasta and our two entrees- pasta and fish . It took an hour for our beet salad and my sons pasta to arrive . This entire time my husband and son were outdoors which was clear to the server and staff and we had to eventually ask 45 minutes into the experience if our food was coming soon. I assumed at this point maybe the server rang everything to come out at once since a salad and buttered noodles couldn’t possibly take this long. When our food finally came an hour in it was just the salad and our sons food so we got our son in to eat but at this time it had been so long he was starting to get fussy. I completely understand courses and have worked in a restaurant industry but have never waited an hour to get a beer salad and then after this our entrees took another 45 minutes. Meanwhile the tables around us had all ordered after us and received and had eaten their appetizers (which were much more complicated than salad - octopus etc ) dinners and one was onto to dessert. We had to ask that our dinners be boxed to go before they even arrived and were given the check immediately but with nothing comped off for the experience until my husband spoke with the manager even then the bill was over $200 for a salad and some kids buttered noodles to be partially eaten there and everything else we needed to take home and we still hadn’t gotten the boxed food at this point. Had we not ordered immediately, ordered complicated/long to cook appetizers or entrees I would have understood a little more but as people around us had multiple courses order after and received before us it was clear something was missed on our order or with the kitchen with very little check in or attention to what was going on. We got multiple emails/texts from the restaurant leading up to our reservation reminding us of the 15 minute grace period and dining timelines expected (2 hours for 3 people) but we weren’t given the same level of importance when it came to getting our food in a timely fashion and had we stayed our food arrived at almost the two hour since ordered mark but the restaurants ask is we would be finished within two hours. I left feeling like perhaps we were treated differently for having a child with us while other patrons did not even though our child made no noise or disruptions since my husband sat outside with him for nearly an hour in the cold while we waited for any food. I actually had to go sit in the car and trade places with my husband who had moved to the car with my son after it became clear our entrees were not coming out anytime soon after the salad and cried because the experience had been such a complete let down to what I had been looking forward to.

We stayed on the patio I was worried about my toddler being cold but they had blankets and heat lamps to keep you warm in October. The steak ribeye was perfection and the mashed potatoes with it so yummy! We loved our appetizer fig and burrata salad. I got a black truffle pasta which was ok. The maple crème Brûlée was amazing!! This place is a must when you’re in Stowe and the menu changes with the season. All staff was awesome.

It’s an amazing place to be. Very good service and super cozy. Great and relatively affordable wine list as well. The food is nice but very overpriced for what you get. The 50+ dollar ‘Truffle Carbonara’ has tasteless truffle, is made in Brie-cheese and is layered with bell-peppers, which is all this expensive pasta tastes off. The duck pâté was a great and very tasty starter, you could have got it like this in France. This place has giant potential, but they need to up the food-game for the insane prices.

I tried to like this place. Service was okay.
I'm giving 3 stars for the view. It's incredible.
The drinks were okay at best. I got jalapeño infused spicy marg. It's too spicy, you can't feel anything after and you should at some point. But the food. It's just not good at all.
We got an apricot salad, watermelon and watercress salad, and octopus for starters. The octopus was not seasoned, overcooked, along with citrus crème fraiche that was not salted and didn't have taste at all. Salads were ok at most.
Fried chicken as a main dish was nothing extraordinary. Just fried chicken.
I wouldn't go back for dinner, that's why I canceled my second reservation, but you can't beat the view.
